Yeah, I got a V1.

Notice how I don't have ports on either side of the 2 center ports. I only have 3 ports on the bottom for boost reference.

Okay, V1 no water, V2 has water. But, I was told that most people don't bother with the water cooling.

The turbine operates at a certain pressure ratio to spin the turbo. Because of this, any back pressure in the turbo back will essentially be multiplied across the turbine, and result in higher pressure in the exhaust manifold. The goal for maximum VE is to have minimum exh pressure in the manifold.


Here's a quicky example (exaggerated to show the concept):

Suppose your turbine PR is 2:1. And you have 10 psi of back pressure in the TBE. That means you have 20 psi in the exhaust manifold (2 x 10).

Now lets say you fit the car with an upgraded exhaust, and perhaps remove a cat, or upgrade to a high flow version. And now your back pressure in the TBE drops to 5psi... Your new exh manifold pressure dropped all the way down to 10psi (2 x 5).



Look at that... a 5 psi reduction in TBE resulted in a 10 psi reduction in the exh mani. That's because the turbine's pressure ratio is essentially a multiplier. And it's also the reason why on turbo cars..... bigger really is better. Ideally you'd have no exhaust, and just let the turbine dump to atmosphere lol.... or even better, have it dump to a vacuum.
But if im going to a dump pipe will it really matter?
I have to have my car to emissions this year supposedly, and at the moment I know I would not pass. I can barely breath while driving the car cause I have so many exhaust leaks. Just put the OEM catback back on and its not fitting due to rear end accident...need to bend more with acetylene torch.
Selling my cpe-dual. Just need to get the pics up and dig it out from the 3 feet of snow it is under.

Well, indeed, I presume you would attach the dump tube past the cat, so, indeed, the dumped exhaust will not be catted. I don't honestly know the percentage of the exhaust that goes through the turbo verses through the dump. Of course it must vary depending on the car, the turbo, and stuff like that. I don't know what percentage overall to expect. But, given that we most people are using 38 mm for the dump tube, that tells me that the majority goes through the turbo. And dumping is only when you are WOT. So, presumably, over the life of the car, even with a dump tube, most of your exhaust is going through the cat. If you have one, that is.

to remain legal in most states, you'd even have to recirculate the dump tube before the cat.

thats how i had it when i had mine recirculated.

Yes, I should've stated that. I haven't heard avaitor's reason for wanting a cat, whether it be personal choice or that he had concerns about passing inspection.

I don't know how many inspectors would notice that or not. Or what states might check. But, indeed, I'm pretty sure it would be illegal in most, maybe all states, to have the dump past the cat.

I still haven't got my car back. Honestly, I don't even know how they routed my dump tube. I'd bet they ran it past the cat, but, I don't know. I think most inpectors won't check, but, I guess I may need to be careful.

On my last setup, i had a bov, ewg, & mbc all the same color. After some miles though... i ended up with an orange ewg, a pink bov... and a still red MBC.

At that point, i figured function over form. And considering the exterior of my car is pretty much stock (save for the enormous fmic), my car certainly falls into the sleeper category instead of the show car category lol.

Well I wanted a cat to pass inspections, assuming I would not without a cat. I dont even know if I would pass with the cat I have on now with how bad the exhaust smells (assuming I fixed all the leaks).
My idea had been to dump to atmosphere, so I would have stock catback to be nice and quiet while cruising, but dump to atmosphere when WOT. All they do in CT is emissions cause the inspections were so corrupt they shut down. So you dont need brakes in CT, but your car better not pollute.

It should just be an OBD2 plug-in test. So, as long as you have all monitors ready and no CEL's you'll be fine. I'm almost positive this the rule for all vehicles that were produced after a certain year, around 2006 or so, but don't quote me on that.

try to track down another bracket - that like bolts down between the tranny mount and battery box - to have something welded on to hold the ECU down. Thats what I was going to do. Nigor rigor could just nigor rigor something up for you.

I saw a top mount kit on eBay being sold for the speed 6,being sold by streetunit. I didn't see it on their site ,is this something new and why didn't I see it on their site? On eBay it says made by cp, has anyone else seen this ? Just curious if anyone knew about it, because I thought this was the only option.

Yeah, that's pretty much the same kit SS installer is running, but i thought his was a 1 off. CP boost is from puerto rico. I don't see SU's name on it though.... Also it's a mild steel tubular which probably will work fine, not sure. SS's mani seems to be holding up.

It looks like it requires welding of the cat back, no intake, and custom oil / coolant lines.

What would have been cool is if the flange locations were the same, so that we could have started a "standard" for top mount setups.... oh well. I seriously thought SS's setup was a 1-off.
