I'm gonna be selling the 3071 which accidentally got left at DJ's house. He already installed it on Garage Nurse's Focus though so I'm not sure how long it will take before I can get it back... lol!!

I have actually already got a couple potential buyers for it...

Question. Why have the intake switched to the other side. I understand that turning the turbo up would put it in that position, but couldnt you turn the flange on the mani 180 and get the intake back on the stock side. This would allow you just to have to maybe extend your current downpipe instead of getting an whole new one. and wouldnt that also allow you to get the SRI closer to the front of the motor where maybe the air is a bit cooler. Just curious

Either way that is a sweet mani and turbo setup. djuosnteisn. You are awesome, you always make great stuff for the speeds

As dustin stated in a previous post, the turbo simply will not fit without having an issue. That is why it is flipped around.

When my car was down and I was about to rip my engine out, Dustin came over one day and we fiddled around with my 35r in my engine bay... we litterally spent like 30min to an hour seeing how we could fit a top mounted big turbo. Dustin came up with this idea because it was the only way it could fit without having fitment issues.

Yup, as mentioned, when keeping the stock orientation (intake on driver's side, exh on passenger's), things get ugly fast. The turbo flange becomes extremely close to the head flange, forcing awkward and difficult runners (most likely only possible with a log style manifold, or something like what steedspeed used to do), and the down pipe clearance becomes a headache too (very close to the alternator). Not only that, but with the 3's different cowl / firewall setup, the turbo has to sit considerably lower than how we do it on the 6's. This puts the compressor outlet at screwy angle and makes hood clearance difficult. If you move the turbo even lower to compensate, top mount becomes impossible, and runners are still AFU'd.

Spin the bisch around... all problems solved.

There are a few benefits to the top mount setup, some of the more obvious are aesthetics, it's simply eye candy. It's also handy to work on / swap out turbos. You can have the turbo off and on in about 30-45 minutes. And the 2 piece dp is ridiculously simple as well.

For the intake temps... i contemplated making a heat shield (and still might), but at fist blush, it really didn't seem necessary. I have a feeling that much of the lost efficiency will be gained back due to a drastically reduce intake restriction. For dyno days and track days, it can be taken even farther by simply swapping the filter out with a screen (not advised on windy days lol).

To put intake restrictions in perspective, I have a local buddy with a 600awhp wrx, and he was screwing around one day on the dyno. He did back to back pulls with and without his intake filter. The without pull resulted in nearly a 50 hp increase, with no other changes (he was only around 550 awhp back then, uncorrected). So it's significant. Any vacuum at the inlet directly plays into the operating pressure ratio of the compressor.



Short and skinny of it is that i love the top mount for my ms6... and was determined to find a way to put one on my 3. This kit is basically what i came up with.

Hopefully some tuning will help the spool a little but idk how much... We'll see what happens but I may end up getting a GTX3076.

Yeah, he had a MBC... but there are definitely issues with it. The whole "tune" was a hip shot at getting decent fuel trims for the trip back to denver. We never even got to the point of "tuning" due to all the blown couplers and leaks, hahaha. And there's zero reason for him to be hitting 30psi... so he's switching to spring pressure only for now.



Spool is quite a bit slower than i expected too, hahaha. The HTA3586 is pretty big.

Looks like you need to go back to the drawing board and make a twinscroll T3 or T4 option.

Hmmm that spool does seem a little slow. With mbc I hit 20psi by ~4200 rpm on my 6466 which is actually a bigger turbo. Hmmm maybe just elevation difference? ??
