| Not Ranked : 0 score Don’t get me wrong, I moved in 91 and only go back for family or business, always with rental cars having lived under the nightmare that is CARB will really make you appreciate how well you have it elsewhere... but I do miss the freeways and the Mexican toll road right around K38..... oh the banked turns on a road less travelled. Now I live in glorious smog free (both tests and pollution) El Paso County, Colorado....

Turbos from the '80s up could/can last 150ishk+ miles easy, if not more. Just let your car run a bit on the way home, or run it for a minute to let it cool a bit before shutoff. There's no need for turbo timers now with the continually running coolant even after shut down on the MS3s turbo, but doing a bit of chillaxed driving fer a min or 2 right before shutting the car does help turbo life to a degree. They are meant to run that hot on a fairly consistent basis without breaking, unless you get an unlucky design. Like I guess the GenJuan and MS6 with the smoking turbo.. TL; DR blah blah blah don't worry about your glowing turbo just don't shut the car off before letting it cool a bit, the older the turbo, the more important in most situation..

| Not Ranked : 0 score Wait wait, I think I just learned something new. lol The coolant continues to circulate after shutting the engine down? How? My brain is stuck on belt driven water pump which obviously stops when the engine does. **sorry for the distraction**

Obviously it doesn't circulate at the rate that the pump moves it, but it does circulate slowly. A properly designed routing of the coolant lines for the turbo will take advantage of this natural heat flow process.

Most of the stock and even aftermarket turbos used to only be oil cooled from the early '80s-late '90s-early 2Ks, and indeed if you shut down yer car while the turbo was glowing red or very hot the oil left in the turbo lines would coak (carbolize or literally burn into a hard mess) and eventually eventually reduce or stop fresh oil from flowing through your turbo, which is very bad news. Some cars would come stock with turbo timers back in the day, mostly JDM stuff tho, Japanese love their gadgets even more than us.

| Not Ranked : 0 score Actually I am stock besides my C.S. Racepipe. I hit about 310whp (VD) with the Stock intake and intercooler. I want to see how much air this baby will move over a K04 with the flow restrictions intact. After installation of puppy is complete I will not be changing my tune. Straight bolt on comparison, from a Direct drop in replacement standpoint. After data is collected, I will be switching over to 3 port interrupt configuration on my EBCS, C.S, 3.5" intake, and if all goes well, my new injectors will be installed and functioning. I can't wait for this all to be finished. I want another shot at that Lambo that blew my doors off a few weeks ago. That rich SOB will eat my corn fumes, with his convertible top down and his woman's hair blowing in the wind... I wish I was rich... Sent from my iPhone 6 |

| Not Ranked : 0 score I remember wiring up a turbo timer on my 2nd DSM. The little garret T25 hair dryer on the 2Gs got hot as hell. Having it was reassuring, so then all I had to worry about was crank walk and my transfer case shitting the bed. Different topic, I know. I digress.

If you get the 5 DP nuts off with studs, you are lucky. If not, sawz all the thing out. Or follow directions that Corksport spent a long time on. Seriously, fuck the OEM downpipe. | |

Good luck dealing with the stock DP, and the install in general. How many miles you have on your vehicle that your injectors are shot? That will be interesting to see how the new turbo handles your old tune, can't wait to see the logs! Off to drop off my CS DP and TP for ceramic coating. Can't wait for a reason to take the turbo/EM off to get them done as well, all free (in trade for cheap work). I'm trying to keep the engine bay temps down and reduce heatsoak.

I only had WD-40 on hand when I did my downpipe at ~100,000 miles. I soaked them for a couple of days ahead of the swap, and heat-cycled things a bit. They came out pretty easily too. YMMV, of course.

| Not Ranked : 0 score Nope, i 86ed that idea a few weeks after I started. Heard way to many horror stories on different platforms about people trying to attempt, even if I was successful, I did not want people fucking up their shit and me being the blame. However, I do have something that i pulled out of my ass recently for everyone.... If I can make them work. But this is not the thread for that. ![]() Sent from my iPhone 6 |

| Not Ranked : 0 score How much does the genjuan ms3 DP suck compared to the MS6's? It only took me two days to swap mine. About 10 hours of cursing and 4 actual working on it I'd say...

Either way, yeah, be careful working around any of the exhaust side parts, make sure you have some decent mechanics gloves and long sleeves if the car has been running recently. And don't be wearing any polyester shit, it'll melt like butter.

| Not Ranked : 0 score Damnit, now I really wish I was a tester. I would have had a bunch of 93, 50/50, full e85 logs, VD's, etc... with this thing by now. CS feel free to add me as the "12th beta man" on the team, kind of like the Seahawks do with their fans lol.
