How about no! I personally would like to hear what you have to say about this puppy powered turbo, getting yourself banned will leave us with the same reviews as the other 4 beta testers: none.

Although I do appreciate the humor. let's get that puppy in and see what its got! When are you expecting to have it installed?

You run a FMIC obviously, anyways, every stock turbo car I've owned will glow in the dark w/out heat shields after a spirited or uphill run. The aftermarket/bigger turbos are gonna run cooler due to obvious reasons but it's not hard to get em glowing.

Turbos from the '80s up could/can last 150ishk+ miles easy, if not more. Just let your car run a bit on the way home, or run it for a minute to let it cool a bit before shutoff. There's no need for turbo timers now with the continually running coolant even after shut down on the MS3s turbo, but doing a bit of chillaxed driving fer a min or 2 right before shutting the car does help turbo life to a degree.

They are meant to run that hot on a fairly consistent basis without breaking, unless you get an unlucky design. Like I guess the GenJuan and MS6 with the smoking turbo..

TL; DR blah blah blah don't worry about your glowing turbo just don't shut the car off before letting it cool a bit, the older the turbo, the more important in most situation..

Natural heat flow. Heat rises; so as the coolant cools in the radiator it naturally circulates through the cooling system pulling the hot coolant out of the engine block until all of the coolant is close to ambient temperature.
Obviously it doesn't circulate at the rate that the pump moves it, but it does circulate slowly.
A properly designed routing of the coolant lines for the turbo will take advantage of this natural heat flow process.

Exactly that^

Most of the stock and even aftermarket turbos used to only be oil cooled from the early '80s-late '90s-early 2Ks, and indeed if you shut down yer car while the turbo was glowing red or very hot the oil left in the turbo lines would coak (carbolize or literally burn into a hard mess) and eventually eventually reduce or stop fresh oil from flowing through your turbo, which is very bad news. Some cars would come stock with turbo timers back in the day, mostly JDM stuff tho, Japanese love their gadgets even more than us.

I remember wiring up a turbo timer on my 2nd DSM. The little garret T25 hair dryer on the 2Gs got hot as hell. Having it was reassuring, so then all I had to worry about was crank walk and my transfer case shitting the bed. Different topic, I know. I digress.

The heat shields are the worst part really. At least thats been the most frustrating for me in the past. 8mm ratcheting wrench.

Hulk smash the dp nuts, after a lot of PB.

You did not read my review. It was essentially reviewing of the Hell install we went through.

If you get the 5 DP nuts off with studs, you are lucky. If not, sawz all the thing out. Or follow directions that Corksport spent a long time on. Seriously, fuck the OEM downpipe.

if you undo the RMM and the PMM, slide it forward, will a grinder fit in there?

Sorry I assumed you ran a FMIC as within the time it would take the average dude to remove the TMIC/heatshields the turbo shouldn't be glowing at all. But I'm now guessing you removed the heatshields, buttoned up yer TMIC, went on a pretty serious rip, and popped the TMIC off and snapped the pic..

Good luck dealing with the stock DP, and the install in general. How many miles you have on your vehicle that your injectors are shot?

That will be interesting to see how the new turbo handles your old tune, can't wait to see the logs!

Off to drop off my CS DP and TP for ceramic coating. Can't wait for a reason to take the turbo/EM off to get them done as well, all free (in trade for cheap work). I'm trying to keep the engine bay temps down and reduce heatsoak.

FWIW, when I did my BNR swap, my MS6 had 118,000 miles on it (if memory serves). I PB-blasted the turbo studs/nuts for a couple of days and got some heat-cycles in them before attempting to remove them. They came out easily.

I only had WD-40 on hand when I did my downpipe at ~100,000 miles. I soaked them for a couple of days ahead of the swap, and heat-cycled things a bit. They came out pretty easily too.

YMMV, of course.

Nope, i 86ed that idea a few weeks after I started. Heard way to many horror stories on different platforms about people trying to attempt, even if I was successful, I did not want people fucking up their shit and me being the blame. However, I do have something that i pulled out of my ass recently for everyone.... If I can make them work. But this is not the thread for that.

so many people complaining about stock dp removal. It's not THAT bad. Swivels, extensions, more swivels, stubby 14 wrench or thin 14 wrench, breaker bar, pb blaster.

We had all that. But the "Christine" factor in my car, 15 hours was quick.

I’ve had a CPE DP in my garage for over a year because of DP installation complaints... waiting for a reason (other parts) to do it as well, manifold or turbo... one of these days .

How much does the genjuan ms3 DP suck compared to the MS6's? It only took me two days to swap mine. About 10 hours of cursing and 4 actual working on it I'd say...

Nope. He started up the car and moved it from the driveway to the garage. It was only on for like minute to a minute and a half. It wasn't glowing, but that shit got hot fast. Not unbearable, but really not pleasant with bare hands.

Yeah, that is pretty damn hot, pretty damn fast. In the dark it's definitely much easier to notice, but even then I usually have had to be in the boost for a bit, or do a bunch of uphill driving to get my turbos on my other turbo cars to glow, they were all also front mounted turbos..

Either way, yeah, be careful working around any of the exhaust side parts, make sure you have some decent mechanics gloves and long sleeves if the car has been running recently. And don't be wearing any polyester shit, it'll melt like butter.

Just for the record, DO NOT wear mechanics gloves handling things hot...they melt, stick to your hands and burn the living shit outta you since they have synthetic fabrics a lot of the time. You want real leather for handling hot stuff.

Damnit, now I really wish I was a tester. I would have had a bunch of 93, 50/50, full e85 logs, VD's, etc... with this thing by now.

CS feel free to add me as the "12th beta man" on the team, kind of like the Seahawks do with their fans lol.

I prefer the plastic gloves...... like the ones I use when washing dishes. They melt the best.
