Yup, same deal when I bought my MSP, sweet fuck all for parts until just before I sold it, and even then the market was weak compared to what we have now. Gotta say that my experience with the MSP jaded me a little from buying 1st year 'tuner' models, glad I waited longer this time.

So glad that Mazda kept this same engine for 3 different models, and kept making MS3s for so long. It makes it soooo much more worth while for smaller companies to put time and money into developing new parts for the platform. And it helps them continue to grow their companies and be able to provide parts for the regular Mazda variants where they might not have been able to in the past.

It's nice to see new parts still coming out with some regularity, this platform has proven to be reliable and hopefully that means we will see more and more goodies to keep us somewhat satiated.

I think I have tuned 6 of these turbos now and each one has been very predictable.

Each car has made the same power all with similar/comparable hard parts and the turbo/wastegate have responded the same each time.

I haven't had any hiccups or issues with any yet and one of my customers from Idaho at 3,500 feet just informed me he took 1st place in his local autocross with 20 PSI (this is irrelevant, just happy to see).

Barrett @ CorkSport tells me that he has some methanol ready to go and is willing to run over 26 PSI to see what she does on the dyno.

Today, the mechanic removed the K04 : all was stucked :
Studs and nuts of the DP, and exhaust manifold...
The primary 02 was a nightmare to remove too
Even with pb blaster, blowtorch etc
Tomorrow : CS turbo install, will be easier

Wait, so it was not 3 hours like our flappy headed canuck superstar? Guess you should have flown him out. He can do turbo swaps on rusty parts in 3.5 hours and be home in time to post a 7 paragraph thread about a $2 broken part he wants free.

I can see how its doable in 4 hours if you had no issues with seized bolts and everything is gravy and you know what your doing. It took me about 16 hours to do it solo on my car, taking my time. The worst part is getting the stock dp out and the o2 sensors imo.

First time I did a turbo swap took me 6 hours. I'm down to 3 hours now, but I have a lift and have done it too many times to count haha
I've learned that Anti-Sieze is your friend with DP studs.

+1 for a 16 hour solo install.

I still need a new downpipe. I reused my old stripped O2 sensor its hanging in there by a thread.

I thought I was good at turbo swaps until the MS6 hit me in the face with a brick. That oil return line buried under the PTO FTMFL.

Tell that to Mazda...

I agree, Why Mazda is still using cheap nuts without antisize !?

Hopefully, I was lucky to buy new 02 sensors before installation...
I read here that some guys had troubles with it

They also torque the living piss out of everything! But hey that's "part of the fun" lol

Back to turbo, seems like this little puppy (see what I did there) is performing well! Just like CS said it would, From what I've been reading that is, still looking forward to seeing some solid numbers from guys with meth and built blocks though

I had everything (tools/torches/lifts/experience) except a good O2 sensor socket/offset crowsfoot, and I failed on the primary O2 sensor and stripped the 10mm DP heatshield bolt next to the firewall (damn 12 point box end stripped it like butter, felt like it was coming off it was such a smooth process).

My shitty brand new O2 sensor socket (from Lordco) spread it's legs like a 5 dollar crack whore. After 2 times of that, multiple sprays of multiple thread penetrants, I said fuck it until I get some better tools. That was about 1.5 hours in with extra time for penetration.

That's just for the TBE. The next time I go at it, after I remove the DP, I'm going to attempt to crack all the turbo bolts and slather them in copper anti-seize, as I'm going to go there eventually, and our roads get heavily salted in the winter. I already coated everything on the exhaust side that I was able to remove, which wasn't much.

In a perfect world, if every bolt came off like it should, 3 hrs is very easily doable for a TBE install, or just a DP drop and turbo swap, but the exhaust side parts live in hell.

Also for anyone that is unaware, the stock DP won't come out unless you remove the studs. (atleast the ones closest to the firewall, probably need at min 4 out of 5 studs out) Removing the studs with the double nut trick worked great for me. Soak em in penetrating oil for a while and keep spraying them. Also when you put everything back together put antiseize on EVERYTHING. Everything is much easier with lots of lube, including your mom.

Funny. I got my stock DP off without removing the studs. Must have gotten lucky.

Some pieces/parts in vehicles, especially modern engine compartments, need to come off in a very specific way. I'm sure you don't need to remove any of the studs to get the DP off, but when yer on the ground, and have just fought with various nuts/bolts, it probably feels that way if you don't rotate it out in the right manor.

The top ex mani heatshield is kinda like that, taking it off can be a real struggle until you twist/lift it the right way, once you figure out that way, it goes off and on very easily.

I've fought some parts (like AC compressors/Alternators/PS pumps etc), especially on BMWs and Mercs for literally an hr, then boom, rotate it the right amount in the right direction and it comes right out. Turbos are very similar, especially when they are on the firewall side of the motor.

Unbolting and pulling that damn manifold heat shield gave me more trouble than the actual oem downpipe itself. Unlike some other parts I've swapped, the dp came out drama free. No stripped bolts, only one stud came out, did not need to pull other studs and the dp came out after only a couple tries. I coated the shit out of everything with antiseize, including the heatshield bolts. I'm hoping the puppy install goes smoothly too, as I already did the dp and the entire egr is gone.

Probably just jinxed myself.

Replace with the Pimp Shield™

3 hex studs instead of a slew of shit nasty bolts that get stuck in the socket or do round-offs better than a gymnast.

Lmfao, I was wondering who our 'flappy headed canuk superstar' was. But yes, if us kids installed our first downpipe solo, i'd say bitching is earned. If not, fuck yo couches.

Back on topic, anyone running an afltermarket exhaust manifold w/ the CS turbo? If so, how's your low end spool?

All i can say is make sure to clamp the heater hose once you extend it. It might seem tight enough but overtime it will leak and drive u nuts cause you can't tell where its leaking from.

You talking about the hose that dips under the TIP in order to fit the larger intakes? I just moved mine down a bit where it connects to the engine and reclamped it but I need to fix it the "right" way when I'm in there next.

Someone sells the proper sized stuff to take care of that...happen to know who?

I just dropped an order for the CS turbo and the CS EBCS so lets just say I'll be in there soon. ha

We got the barbed fitting and the heater hose at Auto Zone last weekend for another local's BNR upgrade (he ordered before the CS came out). Weird thing is, my hose was tight on my car but did not need to be extended. His did.

Are people trying to uninstall/install downpipes with just a 3/8" ratchet and socket? A breaker bar, a couple extensions, and a swivel and the dp nuts come off in about 5 minutes...

If you are going to mod a car, the first purchase, even before the car, should be a good set of tools. I'm amazed how many times I went to a friends to help install, and they bring out one simple toolbox, with half of the tools missing. The right tools will always make the install experience smoother.

Also, no studs have to be removed to get the DP out, at least on the genpu.

Now, if Corksport would just make it so this turbo could be clocked 180* to work with under-car piping, I would be all over this.

Negative. In my case and in others, we had the right tools but shit would not come loose no matter what. It is a lot of luck. If the nuts came off without a fight, 4-6 hours tops. Fighting hardware took a LOT of time.

Hell, with the local's BNR< we had @Rokusek; here here to help. 20+ motors built, turbo swaps, VVT how-to writer and overall super-experienced. Every trick he knew just did not work for the most part. Frozen hardware firmly rusted.

Every car is different and shit happens. Once the hardware was removed, swap done. Could be attributed to the nickname of my house. Raider's Garage of Pain & Misery. And the fact my car is named Christine after the book and movie. Basically cursing the install.

@Raider; you should be the master of rusted fastners from your hellaflush stance nation air cooled vw days. Rust is the only thing holding a lot of those together.

Cant believe you can't clock this baby. We clocked my buddies BNR so he could go with the under-piping kit and I LOVE it. I'm so jealous. If you dont plan to push past the BNRs capability, it may behoove you to go with the BNR over the CS. I'm pushing roughly 390awhp using meth as cooling only, stock DP. I only say that because I'm surprised at the capability of the S3 with eth/meth; I expected less and wanted to get the CS because of it.

I really love that Corksport is making new parts for our platform. Too bad they dont make more for the MS6. Meh; beggars cant be choosers. Thanks CS! Off buy that rear diff mount now.

That stupid fad was 20 years after I had my bug. And i was west coast, so no rust. But a 13 mm wrench can take most of the car apart.

wait you moved from anywhere else to florida? why?

wait if hella flush has been around for ~10 years, you owned a bug 30 years ago, how old are you? were you the original owner? I know your photos of the car predated digital cameras.

I just dropped an order for the CS turbo and the CS EBCS so lets just say I'll be in there soon. ha
Yeah thats the one. I extended mine and clamped everything except the one side near/under the egr. It held for a long time until matt farrah test drove my car. He mistaked it for brake smoke.

1) My wife lived in FL, I lived/grew up in NorCal. Fuck state tax and smog testing.
2) Owned a bug until 1994or so. That cambered stretched tire shit is recent. Slammed properly was before my time even.
3) @predapio; is only slightly older than me. But my doc says my lungs are that of a 70 year old, knees of a 80 year old, and my back is that of chiropractors dreams.
4) Yes they do.
