Default We Need Your Feedback on Our Mazdaspeed Intake Manifold

Guys, we want your feedback on a project we’ve been working on for the past year. We’ve shown glimpses of our Mazdaspeed manifold from time to time, including the one below when we had it installed on Barett’s Mazdaspeed 3, which popped up on our Facebook page—on April Fool’s—while it was being tested. This manifold […]

Please make all the vacuum source ports threaded so they are easily blocked with a plug (for those who choose to delete evap, brake booster, etc).

It is too late now, but it would be nice to have a version that pushes the throttle body an inch or two to the passenger side to give some extra space for folks who want to run a blow-through.

I think you would have no problem selling it. My recommendation would be to get a prototype to someone running a huge turbo on a built block to get a comparison idealy between this, stock, stock but ported, and JMF. The only holdback for people buying this will be the unknown power potential vs the jmf. People willl go with the proven gains so you need to prove some gains.

Also some flow bench data from a third party showing a balanced flow would be great.

what that guy said + I think a manifold in a price point between a reworked MAP and a JMF.

to keep expenses down I think you could stay away from even developing a PI option. Let the guys that want PI get a JMF. Perhaps this would keep your price point down. There are a lot of setups (read market share) that are between oem and needing PI that would like a good balanced flow IM.

Your IM looks to be cast so to add PI bosses would def increase the cost, of at least that version, to make another cast mold.

I assumed they would all have the bosses for meth and that they could be plugged if they weren't needed.

Also would someone not on a phone get the damn picture in this thread.

compare it to stock with just VTCS and lump removed (no porting) and compared to a ported stock one.

An IM is not a common upgrade when just porting gets most people to their goal relatively cheap.
That said keeping the meth or PI is something I think more people will want than not.
Deleting TMIC mounts might be more desired.

How is fitment on an MS6?

That said I would definitely be interested in purchasing one.
Would love to see how much more this turbo can flow.

I like how stealthy it is, important consideration in Cali.

Would I buy it? Not this summer, but in the future? quite possibly.

Did I read that correctly? Spool-up time increased by 200rpm? So it takes longer to produce power? That sounds like it's somewhat restrictive/turbulent at low revs.

Already been said...

Optional TMIC posts or customers would be reduced to those still running TMIC.

At $725 plus shipping (I assume) what benefit over a RC PnP & powder coated option at ~half the price?

Optional PI is definitely a plus.

For the MS6 guys how much room with ports in front for brake assist and evap hoses is there for coolant reservoir? Current alternative IM is not ideal as far as fitment in the front.

Also for the MS6, the PS pump and number 1 runner... will it be an issue?

I like the stealthyness of it, but I am also curious what the gains are on the baby K04.

It does say it was also tested on a Gen2 with a 35 frame turbo. However if needed, I happen to know a guy with a built block that could use an improved IM over a PnP.

I agree flow bench data would be ideal. Overall flow is less of an issue on the PnP mani than unbalanced flow is at the moment for me.

Making it more drop in, include thermal insulating gaskets with it.
VTCS is kind of useful for us up north with cold starts...not sure what can be done about this though?
Would be nice to see some fully bolted but stock block/turbo gains in the real world before it goes to market.

Poor wording in that sentence I guess. We saw the same boost pressure 200rpms sooner on both the GT35r and CS turbo.

I don't know if this really is much of an option when compared to a pnp stocker unless BT. Relentless customs manifold is fairly cheap, probably has pretty close flow characterisitics, still retains oem mounting locations, and if someone wanted meth bungs they could just as easily drill and tap holes while the manifold is off.

On the other hand yours does look much better and anything with corksport on it typically is quality. If it flowed quite well and I were BT then I could definitely see a reason for this.

Couple of my points, repost from FB

1) Since the VCTS is removed, I would suggest adding something that spoofs the VCTS circuit so no CELs pop up. Some of us still have to pass smog and can't just squelch the CELs.

2) Include for free or at a big discount an oil catch can and hoses since it's a 100% complimentary install piece and important for these engines. For that price, it would be nice if it was included.

3)flow bench the ports on stock IM vs. CS IM to show higher flow/evenness across ports and share with us. If I recall, there is a big deviation in airflow in stock IM ports.

I'm big turbo with completely stock intake manifold and TMIC. I can test the before/after of one of these if you guys want, so long as the price is right.

You can install a relay for this. I have had one in for years. See how too.

2) Include for free or at a big discount an oil catch can and hoses since it's a 100% complimentary install piece and important for these engines. For that price, it would be nice if it was included.
IMO, make price point as low as possible and maybe a slight discount on OCC, but for those that already have an OCC a free one is useless.

3)flow bench the ports on stock IM vs. CS IM to show higher flow/evenness across ports and share with us. If I recall, there is a big deviation in airflow in stock IM ports.
IMO flow test against a stock IM is pointless. It flows bad with VTCS and lump. Flow test against a stock IM with VTCS removed and lump removed. I have said this in every thread about IM (at least all the ported IM threads) but AFAIK it is never done. The flow test is compared against a stock IM and say "wow look at how much better it flows." But for free you can remove VTCS and lump so show me how much better this IM flow compared to a stock IM with VTCS and lump removed.

Would be nice to see some fully bolted but stock block/turbo gains in the real world before it goes to market.
If you want TIG then add them, but what about those that already have them or don't want them. Again, think getting price point low is more important to most...

And A/M IM with VTCS is dumb.

Would be easy enough to have gaskets as an option...isn't a hard part change, just a shipping change. At least that way people who haven't done anything with the IM yet can get the rest taken care of without having to order separately from JBR or similar.

If you want a good comparison I'm willing to test it against my stock unmodded manifold and the jmf manifold on the same tune. I'll throw it on the dyno for each.

So a decrease in spool up time.
I'll take one.

Flow bench tests need to be done with head and valves in the equation.

Naa, they are just going to follow their standard MO and give it to someone with some hodgepodge of parts on k04 that takes a month to install and gives a 'seat of the pants' review. If you can self tune, dyno, etc. on a good setup with a good baseline independently, they don't want you.

Lol. I'd probably wind up just comparing WGDC, Calc Load, Boost and MAFV on the same tune/WGA, but that should be plenty of information.

@NCspecV81; 's thread http://www.mazdaspeedforums.org/foru...ml#post2907822 pretty much summarized for me that I don't want a JMF - not just his install experience, but the loss of spool and cold start behavior on top of the fitment being a whore for any future servicing.

I think the competition for my dollar is between a bung tapped OEM PnP (not really the direction I wanted to go) or this. Moar data please.

Lol give them a chance to rectify the turbo testing. I think they heard plenty of feedback in that regard.

We will check it out on a MS6 to make sure it clears everything.

To answer the testing questions we will do better than we did with the turbo for you guys.

If you can't guess at the advantages this manifold will have over a ported sticker you probably shouldn't be moding a car.
