Default 3 GAUGE POD

So i have an idea for a 3 gauge pod that mimics the stock cluster and sits directly above them as well. if someone where to make such a thing, and it looked good, whould you buy it?

above the cluster would take away too much visibility for me, but im also not a big fan of he pillar gauge pod either, i would say air vents or in middle (non navi models) would be best.

side not a bolt on middle gauge pod would be nice

ive been thinking about this for a long time, and i really dont think it would get in the way, i mean maybe just for me and how i sit in the car, but it could easily be discreat, so you wouldnt notice it at first glance from outside the car, like the 3 gauge on above the stereo or pillar of vent pods. it would have the same flowing line of the stock cluster.

Make it, post pics, and then ask. I agree it could take away a lot of visibility, but most people here would want to see a finished product first. I honestly thing the vent ones are best as they are not in the way, and look really clean

If you're clever and competent, and can tuck the gauges _under_ the _slightly_ raised cluster visor, it might work.

Let's see some workmanship....

I like my CP-e gauge pod on the top of the center stack, so I vote NO.

but! if you had them mounted on top of the stock gauges, all discrete and mimicing the stock gauges in perfect line of sight not blocking anything, you wouldnt even, tickle that thought?

Im just gonna have to make one and go from there.

If you need gauges, I have two Autometer gauges laying around you can borrow. I forget the diameter on them, but I believe they're 52mm.

im not sure on sizes, i dont know enough about them to know, but i figured the middle gauge would be bigger then the two outer gauges, to mimic the stock ones as much as possible. so that'd be two 52's and a 60?? *shrugs* idk... whats the next size up from a 52?

have you seen the one AEM made for the subarus? I would buy that for mazda.

It surrounds the stock gauges and doesn't stick out like all hell
only supports 2, however

My old civic had something like what you are refering to. You would remove the bezel around the stock tach. and replace it with a new one that had spots for 2 small 2" gauges on either side(far left n far right). Personaly I hate the look of pillar gauges, I like looking at my small nav. screen, and I live in south florida so obstructing my a/c vents is a definite HELL NO!!! I would be down to purchase one so long as it looked good and reasonably priced.

LOL... well, I haven't gotten around to actually putting gauges in my gauge pod yet. Rockin' the ricer look right now.

However, when I put some in, I will be getting Prosport Premium boost, oil pressure, and oil temperature gauges. They are all 52mm.

Prosport has amber gauges that are both cheap and match our interiors quite well.

I'm in to see what it looks like.

my sti had that one, i loved it i would totally buy one for my ms3

another place i think would be nice is where the ash tray is, if you pull it out and cut holes into the door that covers it. Would be very clean, out of the way and easy to install, especially running the power to the dash or cig lighter. Only thing is the gauges would have to be smaller ones

Yea but what gauges would you put there? and why would you be looking down at your ash tray to see a gauge when your flying down the road? i like the idea but its not realistic to have something there unless you where monitoring voltages and current for a stereo system or maybe if you had some way to read the level of meth you had in a kit maybe...

The ash tray is a decent idea but way too low for practical use, Imho. The bezel surrounding one is what I want. Someone make it

I probably wouldn't go for the above cluster pod you first referred to, but if you could make something similar to the STI one posted on here. Also what if you tried to make one that uses the vents above the radio? I know they make Audi S4 gauges which go there and you can still adjust the vents side to side (or up and down, i forget but i know you lose one direction of adjustment)

Well finally made it up to see WhoIsJeremy to pillage parts from his car to find that the shroud above the gauges was to damaged to salvage so. I'm gonna goatherd and use mine and just buy a brand new one. For the time being, I'm diggin all the great ideas youths have, i have no problem making prototypes for all of these for our cars. The biggest problem is getting ahold of enough shrouds to make multiple pods, so you guys can have a visual on them and see what you like the most, I think the subi mimic is a good idea but for me the gauges are to low, if you guys want to see them made then so be it, I'm doing this for myself and all others who are interested in them and others like them. So having said that after thanks giving I am going to start the first prototype with the 3 gauges.

Stay tuned for updates... Comment are still always welcome until then.

I second it perhaps being too low. On the subaru set up the stalks are out of the way and the cluster corners are higher up. The stalks may be an issue...

GB - jonridinhi custom gauge surrounds=

heres what one of our local MSP guys did... they look good but to me its just way to low... im still trying to find a place to purchase the shroud, i dont want to go throught the dealer cuz that will make the cost to high, and wouldnt be benificial to anyone.

if anyone knows where i can get a shroud let me know... I NEED IT NOW!!!

your idea could be good if executed well. i suggest starting with some drawings or photoshop before you go investing time and money.
