Any opinions on mud flaps?

I'm buying a MS6 and I was just wondering which companies have mudflaps, and which people prefer? I've seen that CorkSport has some for the MS6, Rally Armor has some for the MS3 and just generic ones that might work.

I do a fair amount of driving on gravel, so I'd love to put some flaps on to help protect the underside and the body. Just wondering if people have opinions on either the CorkSport flaps or if there are other options as well.

Thanks!

Jbr has them too. And you can make them out of trashcans for about $20

Probably sent from a toilet

Mizzle 10-18-2012 07:54 PM

I've been using custom trash can ones ($10) for almost a year without issue.

Smus 10-18-2012 08:10 PM

Really? Literally trash cans? Huh..never would have thought of that...I should have searched but is there a how-to for that? Or is it moreso "buy trash can, cut out flaps, attach to car"?

speed14 10-18-2012 08:15 PM

Easy, buy the ones that flap the most mud.

Kamaril 10-18-2012 08:17 PM

ive heard of people using the universal all weather floor mats.

Bar none, at least for me, is Rally Armor. I have put them on my WRX, MS3, and wife's MZ3.

Excellent quality, looks and protection. I also like the fact that they remain flexible no matter how cold it is out.

O yeah. I stripped out one of the clips during install. Called them up and they shipped new ones to me right free of charge, even though it was my fault.

@Smus,
Get with @Travis, he makes them and has options on colors or graphics.

yes, trash cans. there is a thread on mazdas247 that has a pdf of a pattern someone made for flaps..

i made mine from conveyor belt and they are almost 2 years old and still look perfect. that shit was a bitch to cut, but it is flexible enough not to break and stiff enough not to become useless at speed.

the rally armor ones seem to be the best if you don't want to diy.

Mizzle 10-18-2012 09:34 PM

I made my own pattern by trial & error. Mine goes all the way up past the top bolt so that when you turn, you don't get spatter up your door. It's also trimmed down as small as possible horizontally to prevent it from trapping dirt.

I can get you a pic tomorrow if you want.

I'd like to see a couple pics

jack_hammer 10-18-2012 10:39 PM

I've had my trash can flaps for a couple years, no problems. They have deformed a little by folding back, but nothing terrible. I don't get rock chips like i used to, so mission accomplished

Probably sent from a toilet

And i used the template from m3f or m247 or wherever

Rally Armor Basic Universal Mud Flaps at RallySportDirect.com

That way you dont have to use trash cans for the same price. Thinking I might pick up a set here soon. Maybe I can CAD up a template if I get one right.

They're too short. Every time you turn your front wheel, you'll spray your doors.
Plus my trash can was $10. :)

dastpe 10-20-2012 10:35 AM

rally armor if you drive your car in the winter. theyre flexible and do an amazing job. my summer setup sticks out past my flaps in the summer so i cant really tell you how they work in rain.

sorry i missed this. i bought the conveyor belt at tractor supply. it is 1/8 thick rubber compound with reinforcing threads running through the middle. it is burly as fuck. i think farmers us it to move hay or grain.. it's relatively smooth, with a slight texture.

Sounds like you bought yourself some baler belt...maybe another type of conveyor belt...I farm and i had thought about that already...but like you said it is thick.

it isn't ugly thick, though. it just looks quality and substantial. here is a thread with some pics of my flaps. i think they look great. and fuck, they haven't even shown ANY signs of wear.

escort1991 11-03-2012 03:05 PM

I was bought a semi trailer mudflap and cut it up to my liking. It was definitely think, but I knew they were going to last. Ran them for a little while, took them off to make some brackets and now my car's at the body shop with rear end damage. So, they are on hold.
