which bearing is better ? I'm going to use the boxing days sales to buy my internal parts and i'm not sure which bearing to choose from the Edge list... It will be oem size because mine aren't blown. I had in mind to use oem but i have no idea what is the best for engine longevity...Is the clevite a downgrade vs oem according to the price or it could even be better. AL or H ? The car will run stock refresh compression and i will continue using syntech oil. i have a gt28 for more pressure/stress on the rod. The car won't be used to race exept for few drag strip and spirited road driving... Another one: do i need new injector seal if i have no issues with mine? Do the oem from another brand (toyota i guest) is a good option or a cheap saving against the cpe ? (I expect to remove the injectors and get them cleaned/tested for peace of mind) Should i look for any other parts for my refresh (engine still running but #3 lost 30-35psi) -new oversise manley pistons -manley rods -rebuild kit stge2 + vvt + oem head bolts -maybe new injectors seals -new spark plugs -new accessory belt any advice is welcome! Ps i'm looking for a safe rebuild but the money exchange from can$ to us$ makes me look into any possible savings that don't hurt the result significantly... |
Is the crank out yet? Has it been mic'd to make sure you don't need it reground? I'd not bore the block and do a rebuild with oversize pistons because of cylinder wear and not pay attention to the crank. At least get your shop to polish it, even if its in spec. If you are pulling the injectors, install new seals. I defer to others on which seals are best. Clevite bearings are good to go. So are the Manley rods and pistons. Of course, new plugs. And, a new accessory belt is good insurance as is the VVT fix and new timing chain. |
I used the Clevite H series. My machinist recommended not using the AL (aluminum) ones. You also can't go wrong with the OEM ones. |
the engine still runs fine, i just break a spark plug 1 year ago and some of the porcelain from it scored the cylinder wall and let pass a bit of compression. the rebuild is mostly to refresh that and get stronger internals to fully release the gt28 capacity without being afraid of bending a rod. So i don't expect the crank need any work and probably the old bearing are still fine but i wouldn't re-use them. i just want to keep it as strong as it was because it can handle some abuse. Quote:
