Default Climate Control - AC Always on

I searched the forums as best I could, mayhe this was already discussed buts its buried somewhere.

So I bought a 2011 MS3 about a month ago, it has automatic climate control. The day I bought the car it was in the mid 70s and when I pushed the Auto button and set the temperature it turned the AC on and I thought nothing of it.

Well last week in the mornings it was in the upper 30s and still every time i put on the Auto the AC button turned on.

Now I know that's usually the case for the defrosters, but its under any normal condition it does the same thing.

AC steals power from the car so I always find myself manually turning it off.

Does anyone have the same problem? Or know why its happening?

Thanks

Yeah that's the safety feature, what it does is prevent the motor from blowing.

You will lose power from a honda v-takkk engine but we got something better then v-takk.

We have Torque and ton's of it.

By the way it's normal, mine is alway's ON but doesn't mean it's running.

The AC is on when it's cold to act as a de-humidifier. If you turn the AC off manually, your auto climate control turns off. I don't like having the AC on because it makes my compressor run more which throws my LTFTs off some which bothers me (not that it makes a difference) but, if you prefer to have the auto climate control on, the AC has to be on.. No way around it. It's like this in many other cars as well, in my buddy's 2012 WRX.. it's the same way.

Also, don't know if you've noticed.. but when it's warmer out and you have your AC.. when we go WOT, our cars actually shut off the AC so it doesn't rob you of power. You can notice this when you go WOT with the AC on it'll all of a sudden be blowing not cold air anymore.

So your auto light stays on and it'll auto-adjust how much it blows? ..mine will maintain the air coming in at whatever temperature I have it set at at all times but when I turn the AC off it won't adjust the level of blowing.

Thanks for the replies, I just wanted to make sure I wasn't the only one

I usually turn off the AC manually and then adjust the fan as needed so I guess I'm shutting it off anyway. I can handle the 3 seconds every so often to adjust it.

Yea this bugs the crap out of me too. I rarely like to use the AC, but even if its freezing out the compressor comes on.

all auto climate controls do that in every car. Just cause the AC light is on doesn't mean it's running.

Yes it is normal (your experience may vary depending on age, physical condition and sexual preference) but.................
Just cos you get a boner it doesn't mean you get to fuck the woman in the swimsuit. Capisce (cah-PEESH)

Dunno if the MS6 is the same, but I hit the AC button, the "Auto" light goes off, but it still changes the fan speed and direction to try to mantain the set temperature. It still turns the AC on when the defroster is on, however.

If you shut the ac off, the auto light goes off but the climate control is still on. Every time you touch a feature it turns that feature off of auto, but does not shut the entire thing down.

I'm not sure why the hell this is a thread, but on the 2010+ at least, you can turn the AC off and still set the temp to whatever. It will do everything that it can to maintain that temp without the AC.

It's true but when the AC is on full auto is on and it'll adjust different modes such as it'll go to defrost at a certain temp opposed to blowing in your face.

I never use the air conditioning. If its cold outside, I just bundle up. And if its hot outside, I roll down the windows and drive at blistering speeds.

According to an article I read in Motor Trend about a year ago the A/C comes on to keep the seals lubricated in the compressor. This stops them from going bad during parts of the year when the A/C is not used. If they dry out and crack you bleed out all your freon. It also helps dehumidify the air as previously stated. Nothing is broken.

Some of you guys need to read the manual for your cars. It clearly states that when you have the auto climate activated, and manually adjust something (whether it be fan speed, temp, etc...) everything else STILL stays in auto except what you just adjusted manually.

This is normal. I wondered about it myself when I first got this car (my first car with automatic climate control) but I learned it happens on all these systems anyway.
