Flashing Oil Light

Sorry if this is an obvious question but I searched around and nothing came up (also don't have a manual available). While I was on my way to school today my oil light blinked rapidly for a second or two. This happened twice and I barely noticed it the first time. Just wondering if it's a big cause for concern or not. By the way I'm running rotella and changed it about 3k miles ago.

captain slow 09-24-2012 11:49 AM

did you check oil level?

Mazdazilla6 09-24-2012 11:50 AM

Didn't get the chance to I was already running late to school. I'll check when I get out.

taf0422 09-24-2012 11:56 AM

I would check it since thats the dummy light. You may be burning oil and not know it..

Mazdazilla6 09-24-2012 12:00 PM

Could the oil be getting through the seal on the turbo? I've noticed smoke lately but only during the mornings when its 40-50 outside so I just assumed it was just because of the colder weather. I haven't seen any when I get out of school when it's significantly warmer out.

p057 09-24-2012 12:05 PM

no, thats probably the sensor going off because you're extremely low and it's just high enough to only trip it over bumps or uneven road. check level asap BEFORE turning on again.

taf0422 09-24-2012 12:05 PM

You need to check levels before doing any of this bc your car is definitely low on oil from the sounds of it

Let your car get warm and let it idle for 15 or so minutes and see if smoke starts coming out of the exhaust if it does than screwed seals. You may just be burning oil every now and then. A lot of out cars do it. You just need to check the oil level every now and then.

Mazdazilla6 09-24-2012 12:08 PM

Ok will do. I'll update when I get home later.

remember to check before you drive. If you're low....ADD BEFORE YOU DRIVE!

TiGraySpeed6 09-24-2012 01:29 PM

inb4towtruck :O

lolz :), Same ol crap from me too- check oil, is likely low. Once you've topped off, then start to ponder where it went...

taf0422 09-24-2012 03:11 PM

Dumbass. You needed to check before you left to go home...

It takes 30 seconds to do so. Instead you are driving on a motor that is probably 2 qts low on oil. Its definitely not on the dipstick anymore if your light is coming on

865ms3 09-24-2012 03:43 PM

......ill go ahead and troll myself. @Raider move to the genpu section?????

Raider 09-24-2012 04:12 PM

This is why we have link 1 in my sig. This won't show on a carfax....

GH07MS3 09-24-2012 04:22 PM

hmm no post since 2? My zoom zoom boom senses are tingling.

TiGraySpeed6 09-24-2012 04:31 PM

it's a long walk home.....

Mazdazilla6 09-24-2012 06:15 PM

HAHAHA nah I had some make up work to do after school. Then when I got home I had to replace my purge valve which took like 10 mins. But yes I was low on oil. Very much so. I checked before I left school and ya it wasn't on the dipstick. But now there's a new concern. I'm not sure if it's related to the oil or not but it sounds like my serpentine belt has taken a shit on me. And as for where the oil went I'm assuming a new turbo is in my near/distant future. And I've owned my car since last February so whether it can come up on a carfax or not, it probably didn't have this problem before I bought it.

Raider 09-24-2012 06:26 PM

You drove it home before checking the oil? That sound is a rod knocking, ya blew up. Stupid not to listen to everyone. Why even ask for help?

Post a vid of the rod knock...

Mazdazilla6 09-24-2012 06:30 PM

No I checked before I drove home. The sound didn't come around until after I got home anyway. Of that I am sure because I drove my car home with the windows up and it was dead silent the whole way home. And the sound is only there when I'm above 2.5k rpm. I'll see if I can get a phone vid the only camera I've got is my iphone.

Raider 09-24-2012 06:34 PM

You drove knowing low on oil? Wow, even more stupid! Smh. Really??

snOhio 09-24-2012 06:37 PM

subbed for legendary fail

Mazdazilla6 09-24-2012 06:40 PM

Ya I know I'm a fuck up for it. But at the time I didn't think there was anything for me to do because all of my friends with cars were are work and the closest place that had rotella was a 5+ mile walk away. I would have walked but the time didn't permit it which I know sounds like a retarded as fuck answer but that's the truth.

Raider 09-24-2012 06:45 PM

A tow, a cab ride, asking for a ride. These are all cheaper than a motor. Smh, oil is a basic requirement. I just don't get it.

Mazdazilla6 09-24-2012 06:48 PM

Look I get it I fucked up. Bad. The rod isn't making any sound at idle. (no I didn't turn my car on to confirm this). If I throw a vid up will you be able to tell me if it's a rod?

burn813 09-24-2012 07:14 PM

Mazdazilla6 09-24-2012 07:52 PM

Sorry I was out at dinner and it won't let me post it from my phone. Gimme a couple of minutes I'm putting it on my computer.

crazyp 09-24-2012 08:11 PM

I check all my fluids at every fill up.

It's a habit I've gotten used to and it keeps you from waiting till it's to late.

If you were a woman I'd understand.........

greg08 09-24-2012 08:20 PM

Broo. Post a vid. It could be ur belt going or your water pump because when mine went it made noise. I'm hoping for the best

cbspd3flip 09-24-2012 08:51 PM

People are so lazy they can't even check oil/fluid levels at basic intervals, you don't deserve a car.

Sounds a lot like this...so I'm gonna go with spun bearing caused by oil starvation from...ya know...driving around with low oil. You'll notice the sound on this motor isn't there until it revs up as well. Not really an expert on this shit so I could be wrong...but yeah...whatever it is it doesn't sound right.

btstarcher 09-24-2012 09:22 PM

Agreed. Spun bearing. Replace engine.

Mazdazilla6 09-24-2012 09:27 PM

Thank you very much (to those who actually helped). GOD FUCKING DAMNIT THIS BLOWS ASS. Well now it's time to see if I can find a new stock engine. Uggghhhhh.

We all helped. You did not listen or take our advice.

TiGraySpeed6 09-25-2012 05:59 AM

Expensive lesson learned. Sorry that you got burned, but some things really are just that important, and luck really is a fickle bitch, and it doesn't always happen to somebody else.

Good luck with the rebuild! Are you just gonna swap out, or build? You've got an excellent candidate to rebuild with a solid bottom end, and the cost would be about the same... Gonna tackle it yourself and learn about what/how/why, or pay somebody?

Personally, I say take the time and rebuild it. Call it penance if you want, but you'll be much more aware if you have some of yourself in there. Besides, you never really own it till you rip it apart & put it back together...

Oh, and, cause, you know, if it get so bad you see the light, then you're an......

Dude Ti, are you crazy? This guy didn't have the time to even check his oil after he knew there was some problem with the idiot light flashing.... didn't even look after 10 guys told him to take care of it.... then DROVE it back home with low oil.

I don't give a crap, I'd call WHOEVER to come help me out. I mean, EH-NEE-ONE!!

Mazdazilla6 09-25-2012 06:41 AM

I'm debating selling it. Maybe pick up a miata.

3Gee Tee 09-25-2012 07:01 AM

That definitely would suit you perfectly.

Fuel gauge sender oil pressure switch warning light for dual circuit brake. Fits: 1949 Volkswagen (VW) Beetle | Jim Ellis VW Parts

TiGraySpeed6 09-25-2012 07:03 AM

Well, zilla, if you're not gonna pay attention to this engine like a very hot, very high maintenance girlfriend, then honestly a miata may be a better choice for you.

Beware tho, this particular issue could've happened to ANY car. miata, vw, small block chevy, whatever.

Raider 09-25-2012 07:09 AM

Joke time

Mazda: Knock knock.
@Mazdazilla6: Who's there?
Mazda: Rod.
@Mazdazilla6: Rod who?
Mazda: Rod Knock, you drove me without oil, asshole!

:puke:

btstarcher 09-25-2012 08:50 AM

Sell it. I'll give you 2 dorrar.

burn813 09-25-2012 08:52 AM

How is this not in the troll of shame yet?

Raider 09-25-2012 09:02 AM

Not much of a troll of shame, more of just shame. Lots and lots of shame.

At least he can get $7000 for it when he sells it.

yah, and make sure that when it runs low on oil, and you check it and know it's low, to drive it anyways.

fucktard.

This is 100% entirely your fault, not the car's fault.....so selling the car overlooks the entire issue here............YOU.

This makes me a sad panda. A perfectly good Mazda had to die for no good reason even after being told what steps to take.
I'm 99% sure it is a rod. Same sound one of our street/strip cars made after it blew a oil line.

As is stands I don't know what I'm going to do. I don't have the experience or the know how to build my own engine I'm 17 and still in high school for fucks sake. On top of shcool I've got two jobs and that number may be going up to three soon so ya there's a lot of things I can't stay on top of even if it is a basic thing like oil. I've got the money to put a new engine in it I'm just not sure that I want to. I'd also love to ask people here for help with something big like this but I'm pretty sure that everyone has placed me in the unredeemable category so I don't want to bother asking because none of you are going to want to bother to help.

Raider 09-25-2012 11:40 AM

We already helped. You ignored. Have mommy and daddy buy you a new car. For fuck sake, your dad needs to take a bus for failing to show you how to check your oil regularly, and you need a bike because you are too young to be responsible for any vehicle.

I had a 71 Bug hen I was 17. I paid for it. I checked the oil all the time, every fillup. My dad showed me that when I was 10 or so on his car, and it never needed oil. But I at least knew general care.

You burnt me up, as well as many people here because we told you not to drive it, and you did.

New motor is $3500 to start, so you need to start saving. Or drive it to Carmax and get whatever you can before it explodes. I would add some 90weight to dull the knock, lol.

Mazdazilla6 09-25-2012 11:42 AM

My parents have been divorced since I've been five and my dad lives in FL. I bought my own car and I'm not some spoiled bitch. Yes you did help me my earlier post was directed at others. And like I said I have the money for a new engine right now.

Raider 09-25-2012 11:50 AM

NCE.

OK kiddo, find the nearest dealer and get the the motor swapped if you have the $.

A-fucking-men.

I didnt have a dad growing up to teach me that shit. bought a 93 nissan altima myself after my first job asking for rides from friends all the time.

made sure i checked all fluids because even though my mom didnt know shit about cars, she knew that the oil and coolant were like the "blood of the car." You can't exsanguinate the car and expect it to keep living!

anyways. i dont have sympathy, we ALL told you what to do. You shouldn't even be driving that car. Go get a beater so you learn all your mistakes on that first.

Way to kill off another one of the 10,000. :asshole:

Hey guys. OP and I took it to PM and I helped guide him down the path of rebuild. He's getting his MS6 back soon from CJ Wilson Mazda. Anyone who follows Mazda racing knows him. The dealer used to be Autobarn, the people behind the Mazdaspeed 5 and Mazdaspeed 2 cars. He has learned the hard way, and an expensive lesson. He's getting a thicker skin, and hope he can grow here and become a perverted asshole with a Mazda fetish like the rest of us.
