Default Gonna drag race my Dad's IS350 in a week, gimme some tips pro's :D

Hello chaps!

So I've been working on a stratified tune now for about a month with Alex. It's going great, we had some major bugs to work out with my BNR S3's WGA. Things are settling in now, and we're finally starting to gain control of everything (finally) and the real tuning has finally begun.

That being said, about 2 months ago I challenged my dad to a friendly drag race at our drag strip (Cedar Falls Raceway, IA $20 unlimited runs, can't beat it) He always says my car is "slow" and that I should just buy a more reliable fast car and uses his as an example. His car is quick, but I assume it'll run pretty much a 14.0 at 100 pretty much on the money. It's a bone stock 2006 Lexus IS350.

I haven't dragged raced my MS6 yet and I RARELY launch even half hard as I'm terrified to drop the rear diff or tranny on the xplode-wheel drive.

Assuming I have a reasonable tune all settled and am pushing over 300 WHP, what are some good tips I should use for those of you who have ran low 13's or high 12's? I've raced dozens of times, but it has been YEARS since I've raced at the track (probably 4 or 5).

How hard are you guys able to launch it ( RPM wise) and what's it take to shatter a rear diff?

Basically give me some confidence to whoop my dad once and for all

Take what I say with a grain of salt, as I've never really "launched" my car, but from what I've been able to gather, it's best to allow a bit of clutch slip when you take off at first. If you don't, you'll just bog.

Try some practice launches.

Couple guys here with MS6's just drop the clutch at launch. Not sure about the RPM's (I'm sure they're high)

You could also try slipping the clutch instead if you're worried about your differential. But you'll wear your clutch out faster if you keep doing that.

My tip: Just show up... let the cars superiority do the rest. In Aust I have seen a MPS6 with a AP run into the high 12's & low 13's on a cold night... Although his clutch was not too happy about it!

I think it was STAGE2 map with the usual bolt-ons (TBE, HPFP & CAI). Looking at your mod list I would be seeing a 12 no worries.

You're on a bnr s3 and you think you're going to run 14s? Speed 6's run 14 stock. If you run 14, fail. Slip the clutch a bit to save drivetrain as others have said.

350's do occasionally dip into the 13's but very high 13's. With a modded ms6 you should rape him, if for no other reason than have a low 60' time

I launch at 4, 500 in my 6. You should dominate on a K04. With a BNR no problem.

I see you an upgraded diff mount, but seems you only the rear one (should have done both). Just launch how evos do if your concered, which is like most have said by letting the clutch slip a bit. If you want use the launch control on the ap and set it to around 4700-5000 rpms, and you can launch like a bawse! But you shouldnt have a problem with that Lexus, especially with a bnr s3.

I Launch around 4600 rpm. You can just drop the clutch if you want, but I prefer to slip it alittle so the clutch takes the brunt of the force and not the drivetrain. If you smell a tiny bit or burnt clutch that goes away really fast, I would consider that a good launch. Your driver rear axle will prolly break just dumping the clutch if its stock.

On the stock rear diff mounts, i wouldn't go too high with the RPMs. Maybe 3.5k to 4k and slip it. If you drop the clutch you will undoubtedly hear your rear diff try to enter your cabin through your back seat. I doubt he'll be launching any faster so you should be fine. Just get started smooth, FFS, and let the BNR do its work.

Don't go by what the AP says your quarter mile was. I've gone to the track a few times in the last couple months and I run 13.5x at 100 all night long. And that's on the stock k04, in 90 degree weather, with no weight reduction and a subwoofer and amp still in my trunk. Just set your launch control to 5k rpms and drop the clutch. With a bnr it won't even be close. Here's a bid of the last time I went to the track a few weeks ago - I whooped up on that vette, you'll do the same to the 350.

Bitch please, set 2-step at 4400, when the first light turns green mat the gas and clutch, then release! What are you doing on BNR and tuned without being mounted anyway?

14.1 @ 103 on BNR and Stratified?
