Oh, and the DSC button still works. I am not sure if I should remove the other two buttons -- one is for dimming the instrument cluster, it can probably go; the other is for leveling the headlights or something like that, I never used it.

Ok, made some more progress today, almost there.

Separated out the wires for the wiper motor, 4 come in from the driver side and of course the 5th one goes to ground on the passenger side. I am going to shorten the wires and keep everything on the driver side.

The front passenger side cleaned up pretty well, the driver side is still a clusterfuck of wires, hopefully can tidy up tomorrow. I decided to remove the two buttons (cluster illumination level and headlight leveling) and left just the DSC button.

Managed to pull a bit more wires today, this is the last batch (the small box):

Instrument cluster relocation because I should focus on driving, not watching rpms or speed:

Fusebox zip tied to the cage, the DSC off button is below, but I will not be able to reach it when strapped in so it will have to be moved a bit closer:

Still a clusterfuck of wires, but at least now they clear my feet. I will most likely fab some kind of shield to cover the harnesses on the side.

Checked the oil catch can and what the fuck, I just put it in, did a little bit driving around town and racing school at the speedway:

I also secured the silicone coupler on the turbo with two clamps, the first one is all the way down below the bead, the second one closer to the outlet, hopefully I will not blow off the hot side like last time?

It would be nice to have a (trimmed) dash back, we'll see.

Ok, 99 percent finished. Ran out of posi-locks, I need just one to ground the wiper motor. Tied all the wiring and the battery cable to the knee bar for a clean look. Put some sponge under the instrument cluster and found a random bracket to secure the cluster from moving fore and aft. Removed the Aquamist and the meth tank; I am happy with the cooler bats from the fmic so the kit will be for sale soon.

Still need to chase a tiny boost leak somewhere; I hit 21 psi at 3400-3600 rpms but the boost drops to 20 psi after 4800 rpms. Just saw a video from Stratified where they use Permatex High Tack spray to secure silicone couplers and claim that this method should be good for holding 28 psi.

It officially looks like a fucking race carrrrrrrrr. The dash removal mod is what makes it official obviously. I love it. Looks so much better!

How much total weight did you shed pulling the wiring and dash?

The dash has been off for like 2 years now, it was about 21 lbs IIRC. Pulled about 13 lbs of wiring + some connectors and remote antennas.

New corner weights as of today with a nice 61:39 weight distribution.
Code:
 941 1052 |
 708 576 |
-------------+-------
             | 3264
The car had a full tank of gas -1 gallon so 14.9 gallons, and stock potato wheels at 32 psi cold.

Thus, the car is 65 lbs lighter than last time.

I have no idea why the RR is so light, I even relocated the battery there. I guess it is time to corner balance the car again, today I only recorded the weights.

With me in the car, the corner weights are
Code:
1041 1053 |
 763 611 |
-------------+-------
             | 3466
My weight is distributed
Code:
100 9 |	109
 55	35 | 90
-------------+-------
155	44 |	199
Compared to last time, I lost 27 lbs, attributable mainly to aids.

Using the 6.1 lbs per gallon of gas from the previous weigh-in, on an empty tank the car should be 14.9 * 6.1 ~ 91 lbs lighter for a total of 3,173 lbs. Edit: My racing wheels, 17x9 ULR's, save another 27 lbs so the car would weight 3,146 lbs on an empty tank.

Recall that the cage and the spreader plates clocked in at 161 lbs, and the passenger seat and harness clocked in at 25 lbs so without them you would shed another 186 lbs, which would give 2,987 lbs.

Further weight reduction:

Code:
BSD/windage tray 15
front door trim 8
side windows 30 (?)
CorkSport calipers 15
battery cable 6
--------------------------
Total 74
resulting in 2,913 lbs. The 6 lbs for the battery cable is the thick cable for the HTP relocation kit and yes it weighs 6 lbs.

If you wanted to get just below 2,900 then the rear crash bar and some wire removal in the engine bay should accomplish the task.

Yeah I need to work on that particular weight reduction strategy myself...

The new car is a bit more sensitive to driver weight than the old one.

All right, Justin touched my tune a bit and I am now hitting boost targets with no problem, heading to the TWS this weekend.

It is staying open until June 2016. The latest rumor, though, is that the speedway is back for sale, the developer who bought it must have severely underestimated the cost of tearing everything down.

^ To add to the above, the guy who was planning to build another track as a replacement for the TWS, just posted this:

Good afternoon Race Fans

Club Track Holdings suspended its construction plans for a replacement track in April while in purchase negotiations with the ownership of TWS.

This ongoing process is complicated by the economics of the land values, which combined with the growing housing needs of College Station has substantially increased the cost of TWS remaining a track.

The existing track ownership has been cooperative in the process while remaining focused on creation of a subdivision while our intent is to save the facility for future generations. While both sides are striving to create middle ground there are still differences.

Details of the negotiations remain confidential. However, if successful, they will result in a complete rebuild of the famed road course, paddock, and additional support facilities. There would be multiple commercial opportunities for related industries, an on site hotel, kart track and numerous garage condos including the previously reserved Pit Row suites.

Additionally we would be offering home and residential condo sites overlooking both the track and College Station.

There would also be an offering of external commercial sites to interested companies.

If these negotiations fail, development plans continue to build a world class replacement on a previously selected site. This site has been vetted for sound issues, and is easily accessible to each of our primary markets.

Working with the existing TWS ownership the opening of the replacement track will be coordinated with the extended closing date of TWS.

Either way, it is the mission of CTH to ensure our racing community continues to have a quality facility in the Houston, Austin, San Antonio triangle.

For now we ask that you join us in continuing to wait for negotiations and timeline events to mature. Naturally if TWS does not close there is no need to build a replacement track.

We anticipate some direction by mid spring. In the meantime let's all continue to enjoy the extended time that TWS has remained open.

275's, you say...

I'm ~80% sure you could do a short 315 and still be able to turn full lock. Just need to massage the fenders a bit

I am benching my times, weight, horsepower, and tires against M3's that run 1:52-1:53 at the TWS. I should not need more than 275 tires? At the moment my best lap is basically a 2:00.

Some examples:

2011 E93 M3, 350 whp, 3,390 lbs with driver, 275 Hoosier R7, 1:53.20
2003 E46 M3, 305 whp, 2,950 lbs with driver, 275 Hankook C51, 1:52.40 [rev limit 8,200]
2008 E92 M3, 311 whp, 3,750 lbs with driver, 275 Bridgestone RE71R, 1:55.83

Other examples:

"1978 Ford Fairmont disguised as a Coyote'd 2000 Mustang", 430 whp, 3,012 lbs with driver, 275 Hankook C51, 1:49.60

2011 SRT8 Challenger, 390 whp, 4,400 lbs with driver, 275 NT01, 1:56.58

You have to chop fenders in any case, so why not go big? You'll have no problem keeping heat in them. We just got a deal on 275's, otherwise I would opt for wider if wheels weren't an issue.

Weighted the 9ULR wheels I use for the track, each is 42.1 lbs vs stock 48.9 lbs, so the difference is 6.8 lbs per wheel * 4 wheels = 27.2 lbs. That gives me 3,146 lbs on an empty tank.

I thought at some point you recommended 11's for 275's? If not, I could run 17x10 with 275's, 949Racing will have them for sale in about 4 weeks. I think M3 guys run their 275's on 10.5's.

Edit: M3 guys run 275's on 9.5" rims, so 17x10 should be enough for me.

The 9.5's aren't the greatest, but it's what I have for now. A6's are just about the only tire that is mostly-ok with being stuffed onto a narrow wheel, but they would still be faster on a wider wheel.

Depends on the 255, but yes. Lots of folks run 255's on 9's.
