I will most likely keep the 17's (I have only one set left, 5 wheels total) and put Hoosiers H2O's on them. My wheel/tire setup will be:

RPF1 18x10.5, 275/35/18 G-Force R1S + one spare
RPF1 18x10.5, 275/35/18 G-Force R1S + one spare
6ULR 17x9, Hoosiers H2O + one spare
OEM, street tires

Yes, that's 10 RPF wheels.

Will be testing the new setup on June 25-26 with Chin Motorsports, without fender flares, but with the fenders and liners already chopped up. Once I am certain I am not hitting/rubbing anywhere, the flares will go on.

Did another HPDE weekend, but only Saturday. I think my shifter cables are stretched, shifting from 3 to 4 was very vague, and shifting 5 to 4 felt like I was pulling on rubber. I skipped Sunday for this reason and anyway I was already mentally checked out drooling over the June 25-26 weekend when I can test my new rubber.

I am taking July and August off from road racing, but the TWS is staying open until the end of the year so there will be more opportunities in the fall to further push the new setup. Hopefully the owners keep the track maintained, last weekend there were 7 or so cones placed in the usual turn-in spot for turn 6, I guess part of the surface crumbled or got washed out in the recent rains, hopefully shit gets fixed soon.

One of the shift cables' sheathing came apart on the engine bay side and I can see strands of bent wires. Replacement cables ordered.

well, the good news is that replacing the shifter cables is a billion times easier without a dash.

Had a fun evening yesterday. A local business had an employee appreciation day and they booked the speedway 4pm-7pm, rented six cars, and the employees drove the cars on the track with instructors. Because it was a last minute booking, the speedway guys were scrambling for instructors and I was one of the people on their short list. Each employee got a two-lap orientation session, then you switched and they drove for five laps, then you switched again and the instructor finished with two hot laps.

The rentals were total pos, three Corollas, a Camry, a Chevy Cruze, and a Kia Soul, all automatic, no power, zero steering feedback, and throttle response worse than a turbo lag on a 70's car. I cannot imagine in my worst nightmares dailying something like that. But it was a fun evening with lots of tire screeching, some offs, and with a possibility to start a formal instructor training, we'll see.

Got the shifter cables installed on the speed6, here are some pictures of the old cables, not sure if the damage is due to tracking or maybe the sheathing got weakened in the fire and it just took some time for the damage to be done.

Hitting the TWS this weekend, the shop did not chop the fenders, Bill did not want to cut out too much without the flares being here so we will do it once they arrive, probably a few weeks away.

lawnmower and ms6, pretty much the same thing.
both have transfer cases, are secretly two wheel drive, sound better without real exhausts, and are sold second hand after they've been mistreated or beat on.

Real men push their mower. None of this self propelled bullshit.

Unless you have a rider which is ok as it leaves a hand free for drinking beer.

Dropped the car off last Tuesday, the shop is quite busy this week, but they should start on the flares next week.

I was personally impressed with how well that s3 speed6 'kept up' with that nasty z06 on that straight. You were the only one he didn't just walk right by in that group of 5.

Yes, I am really happy with the s3 for road racing. The video is from February so my car was probably doing 140-142 mph at the end of the main straight, the Corvette driver was doing 151 mph.

What's funny is if you watch the video his line is terrible, and he's really just doing kinda "point and shoot" after some of the corners, and still does a 1:53. Auto z06 on slicks ftw lol, that car is a beast.

lol. The car is winning, not the driver. Put him and Code Monkey in spec Miatas and the roles would be reversed.

I had the rear hubs replaced a few months ago, but that was due to an on track incident. I had the fronts replaced last year or so, when I lost an axle nut and we did replacements just in case. No catastrophic failures of the hubs themselves so far.

I stopped by the shop yesterday and they still have not started on the Racepig, will check with them sometime next week.

Cool. I know once you start getting into purple crack levels of grip, all sorts of things start to rear their ugly heads. We were seeing very very minute stress cracks on 3rd gen Miatas for instance and the hubs just became wear items or just upgrade to RX8 hubs (mind you, 2500-2700 lbs and all of 12 WHP on the best day)

Getting really close. The rears are done, the fronts are half finished.

In the front, the wheels do not go full lock yet because they are running into the frame (highlighted in yellow). The shop will do relief cuts between the spot welds there and bang the frame flat. At turn, the wheels also run into the flare. We can either cut the flare a bit or try to heat it up and push the edge out, hopefully the latter works.

One crucial thing is that I have to be able to easily remove the front bumper so the two rivets that go into the front bumper are really Allen head bolts and there is a bracket with two threaded holes on the inside of the bumper. Also, there will be a bracket on the bottom of the front bumper that will push the bumper a bit out for extra clearance.

I am hoping to sign up for a day of HPDE next week and test the new setup. I will spray the insides of the wheel wells with marking chalk, do a couple easy laps, pit in, check if any paint is missing, and go from there.

Not sure yet but I am preparing my butthole.

The front flares will not work, after cutting the fenders, the gap between the tire and the cut up fender is too small and the tire will most likely get cut the first time I brake and the car dives (and in addition the tire is still hitting the outside of the flare at full lock). I am not sure how much lowered @phate; is, I have a feeling that my car is sitting lower? In any case, we need to move the flare up higher but the flares are flat at the back so you have to mount them on a flat part of the fender. But the fender starts curving at where the flare is attached now and the flare wants to go straight. The shop has some old curved fiberglass fenders they had made for their racecar a while back and we will use them which will require more cutting and fabbing, sigh. The car should be ready for this weekend though.

Step 1) Cut EVERYTHING off of the fender that gets in the way at any steering angle and at any wheel height.

Step 2) Put the flare on so that it doesn't touch the tire at any steering angle and at any wheel height.

Step 3) (optional) heat the flare with a heat gun and mold into the body lines.

WTF is your shop trying to do, make it pretty? They're cheap ass flares, and it's a fucking racecar. Do racecar shit.

I am too fucking tired after a weekend of road racing in 100-degree heat but I will say just that: In my first full session on 275's I obliterated my previous best time every single lap with the best lap of 1:58.585. Mindblown and I cannot wait what the racepig can do in cooler weather.

It was a test run and I only did two reconnaissance sessions and one full session. There was minimal tire rubbing in a couple places, I will post pictures in a few days, the Racepig is back in the shop so they can make adjustments and finalize the whole thing.
hermz likes this.
