That is going to be one sweet motor! That EFR kit is but only in my dreams. Cant wait to hear how it performs on the track. Are you going to run their horizontal intercooler?

How crafty. What did it take to do that? Any pictures? I run an ETS TMIC as well. I work with fabricators at my job and would be interested in doing the same.

Most likely no more than 350-370 whp/wtq. There is a sweet power spot for every car and I think this is the one for the speed6 for road racing.

For sure there's something to be said for the BMW...

Pleased with mine- It's putting down the same daily driver map power as the speed6 with just a map flash, but it's oh so much more comfy I can only imagine what the M5 must be like- it's a bad ass for sure

I dont think thats how it works. The balance shaft hold oil in the block that is why the oil looms dirty five miles after an oil change 1 quart of dirty mixed with 6 quarts of clean looks like you didnt change it. Cheapest way to lower oil temps is to increase the oil weight. For your use you could probably run like 20w-50 or straight 50.

Still waiting for the EFR kit, meanwhile had a couple of small things taken care of:

-- got the hood and front driver door repainted
-- the shop made a small 'access panel' in the firewall that may help with peeking under the turbo and installed reflective thermal shit on the firewall
-- the shop reinforced the brake master with a custom plate, the plate will push out the master a bit, but you can adjust the brake pedal so that the pushrod goes all the way in
-- the power steering rack is back in

Well, the EFR kit is finally here, took only 2 months to arrive.

The packaging is superb but the intake they sent is a 3" intake instead of the advertised 3.5" so I will be talking to Edge about it, I was close to maxing out a 3" on the BNR and I have no idea who at FullRace thought a 3" would be sufficient on an EFR 7163.

Also, one piping on the intake is slightly bent, must have shipped like this from FullRace as it was wrapped in double bubble wrap so it is very unlikely it got pinched in the shipment.

The solution for the turbo oil drain line that goes to the block is laughable and will not work, I will most likely use MD's group order flange. There are some instructions included but they are very terse, more like guidelines rather than step-by-step, IIRC @Enki; has a 30+ page install instructions with color pictures FullRace offered at some point.

The black ceramic coating is pure sex.

Heading to the shop tomorrow to start the install process....

Just send it back and make your own with parts from treadstone and siliconeintakes.com bits. That's what I'm doing. I have a thread here in the hard parts section that goes over everything I used previously, but this time I've got the naked flange for the MAF and will be doing a 2 piece vband setup for laughably huge filters.

Again, just ditch that shit and make your own; might be slightly more expensive, but you're better off. Any local shop will be able to do the welding and bead rolling (which isn't that big a deal really, since it's just an intake.

Nope; I got the same shit you did. Also, count on the coolant feed 90 bend on not fitting the banjo they supplied; you can get what you need from a local hardware store; IIRC it's a 1/2 NPT x 1/4 barb, but I might be wrong. Also, if you have an angle grinder you can get little bushings from the hardware store and cut them down to fit (which is what I did). You'll need different bolts (with washers) to do that though since the flange is too fucking big to bolt down properly.

Oh, and before I forget: count on getting rid of the paper gaskets for that shit too; they will leak rather quickly. Get some "Right Stuff" RTV and put a thin layer on the block and turbo (don't want it spreading out too thick and causing a restriction in flow) and I guarantee it wont leak.

Sure is. It's also like a couple atoms thick and not entirely baked on yet. Rough handling or bumping the WGA arm will cause it to flake off, which from what I'm told will likely happen anyways (to the outside at least).

Regret the install, love the end result (you really will on both counts).

EDIT:
Reclock the housings so the orange cap is pointing up, and leave the compressor loose until you're doing the intercooler and intake install. I've also taken the liberty to attach a picture you may find useful (Thanks for taking it, @VashEXE; ).

Thank me later.

If you want to keep the ceramic from getting scratched up cover everything in painters tape before you install it and remove it after it's all in.

@Code Monkey; you need one of those DM oil line kits? If so, I'll post mine up in the FS section and get it out to you.

Wrong thread but in any case I already have two or three flanges from the group buy!

Got the EM installed today and test fitted the turbo. Looks like FullRace just gets their turbos from Borg Warner and sends them on without doing any clocking whatsoever so the EFR I got had the compressor and turbine housings 180 degrees off from what is needed on a Mazdaspeed. Just like Enki said, you need to clock the turbo yourself. I also had to cut on EM stud for the turbo to fit.

Tomorrow I am mounting the transfer case and seeing what can be done with the oil drain line.

I know full race is a quality fabrication shop, but for the price of that kit i'd expect it to be a little more put together right out of the box... especially seeing as how they sell it as a "kit" ...

Exactly what I was thinking. Its a hassle for him to have to go out of his way to refab pieces that should have been right the first time.

Actually you can just install it upside down and it works fine (or from the top; I have a stud that sticks up from the manifold).

How is your banjo plumbing and fittings and shit?

Attached the TC and played with mocking up the oil return line. @KotzurRacing; shaved some material off the block where the oil return goes so I have a little bit more space to play with. The notch above the oil return is for the OEM return line. I am not using the fitting in the picture as the TC breather is in the way when you point the fitting toward the turbo but it just shows you how much more space there is now.

Got a reply from Edge about the intake:

"Full Race got back to me about this. They said it was a typo on their website and the intakes for this setup are all 3". Did you still want to get it returned since it has that bent side you showed in the photos?"

Returning the intake and going custom.

Good man. A 7163 will buttfuck a 3" intake readily.

So when are you going to throw it all back in the pig? And can I help?

Still working on the turbo oil drain line. We think we have a solution, just need to order a couple more parts. Everything else should be relatively easy from that point on. The car is at The Bug Clinic so there are always plenty of hands to help, but you are welcome to stop by and and see the carnage.

Be careful with the EFR EBCS... Mine ran great for a while (About 2 years) and then crapped out on me.

I'm running a Grim MBC now.

Is there not room to just weld an -10 fitting onto the oem return line?

On the block side, I am using the fitting that @torquemaniac; was kind enough to make for me a while ago. It is -12an size so I need a -12an drain on the turbo side.

Reading through the EFR training manual, I noticed that EFR's oil drains are tapped for 3/8 NPT; even if there are only like two threads on the turbo. But you can use a 'pad' or a spacer tapped for 3/8 NPT so here is my solution.

On the turbo side, cut the flange from an OEM drain line and tap for 3/8 NPT. Use a male-to-male 3/8 NPT to -12an straight adapter, I got a steel one for $5 at a local hose and gasket store. Finally, use a 45-degree -12an swivel push-on barb fitting.

I am hoping later today I will have a working oil drain line, will post pictures.

Another update from Edge re: intake:

Full Race just told me that are willing to build a 3.5" intake and ship it to you with the label to send back the 3" if that works for you? It should ship out around the end of this week.

I am taking them up on that offer, why not, if shit does not work I can always cobble together my own intake.

Not yet, first I need to finish that oil return line and lock up the CHRA in place.
