Moving to NC worried about passing Inspection.

Hi All,

I am moving to Charlotte, NC next year and I am worried about passing the emissions/vehicle inspection. I have full turbo-back exhaust, reworked turbo, full Cobb intake, FMIC, HP Fuel Pump, Forged Pistons & Rods.

Does anyone know how the inspection is conducted and if I am going to have issues passing the inspection? I am seriously considering to move to Fort Mill, SC instead because of this issue.

Any input would be appreciated.

You have a cat? Or is your exhaust catless?

i just passed with a testpipe and they didnt even question me, each inspection station is different but for the most part as long as there is something that looks like a cat and a "muffler" somewhere it should be fine.

For emission they just plug up to the OBDII and see if the ecu says everything is running OK. They may look at the exhaust when they check the breaks but I don't know. I have a catted dp and it passes.

I believe NC actually no longer does an actual emissions test. I'm in NC and I'm totally catless and I just have the Converter efficiency error codes disabled. When they read the codes on the OBD system they see that the car thinks everything is fine.

If not, I'm sure there are some tuner shops that will pass it for you around there.

Thanks for the feedback.

Yeah, no light it will pass. But if you have a problem. Road trip to gboro and I'll pass it for you.

just make sure you have a cat and a muffler and no c/i light and youll be okay. or just go to a place and make friends with the guy and give him a 20.

Like they said, if you have no codes you're good to go. If you're still worried, PM me around inspection time

I was just told in MD that as long as no codes come up, and no lights are on, youre good. MD is pretty strict.

I have an '07 MS3 with a gutted 2nd cat, and on 9/13/11 it passed GA emissions without any glitches or drama.

You should be okay on the inspection, however some of the cops have a hard-on for noise around here. Perhaps that's just me though.
