please fill me in on the difference between the red top motor and the black top motor.

ive heard the terms but i'm not familiar with that scene/platform

the blacktop Sr20DET's came in the 96-98 S14 silvias. which had better turbos than the rep top, the head was a bit better using different head parts, along with a few other things. they also introduced valve timing in to the Blacktop which had bigger the cams too.

the redtop came in the 91-94 s13 silvias

wouldnt say its much better. was just improved upon but most people ended up with redtops since they were cheaper but it doesnt matter. KA24DE-T is better than both

Eventually my Nissan will have an RB26DETT

I don't know if I'll ever be able to afford it but what I want to do is a full R34 z-tune conversion with a different engine and brakes. I want to get the OS Giken RB30 Block kit and OS-88 transmission. 3.0L RB built for 1500hp FTW

i wouldnt mind a RB25 or RB26 swap into the 240 either. its a str8 swap and i could get a RB25 in great condition shipped to my door for $2000 all said and done.

RB26 is around 3300 to your door

but of course, RB30's are pure sickness.

I knew of a guy in St Louis with a Z32 and a RB26DETT swap: super nice, plus it gave him so much more room in the engine bay over the VG30.

RB in a 240 would be nice, but after seeing an LS1 powered 240 in action, that made me wish I would have gone that route. Don't get me wrong, I love my KA-T, but there are just so many more Pros when it comes to the LS1 over a KA-T.
