Default Test pipe=smoke?

I had my turbo done since I thought it was the cause of my oil consumption, it was not but it seems to be under control for the time being. My tuner said that even with a stock dp, a test pipe will get me decent gains with the corksport turbo.

If I'm burning a quart every 1500 miles, will one cat be enough to keep the smoke under control?

With both I didn't smoke at all even when I burned through a quart in 100miles.

It really depends on where the oil is burning. I was burning oil and it really did not smoke with a test pipe. It is an easy swap. If it smokes change it back

I run catless 3" dp/rp and have for eight continuous years with the stock K04 and mods below. I never developed any smoking turbo until I got to about 110,000 miles. I know some cars have smoking turbos that are completely stock, so it's hard to generalize. I don't think you will have any problem running with a stock downpipe and an aftermarket test pipe. One way to permanently fix the problem is to ditch the stock K04 for a BNR stage 1. It has the same mounting and flow as the stock K04 but has Garrett guts.

If you start smoking, you probably would have started smoking anyway. I've never used any oil, even when the K04 finally started smoking. That is probably something else, like ring lands.

I'm curious about your oil use. What is your static compression and have you done a leak down test?

One thing you can do to help with the crankcase pressure that is a part of the "smoking turbo" problem is to raise idle rpm +200 rpm. Your tuner can do that for you if it is not already in the tune.

I actually "took care" of my oil problem. I did a piston soak overnight and it must have unstuck the rings. Couldn't believe it. Went from a quart every 100 miles to a quart every 2000 which is good enough for me. Compression was 155 across the board with 135 for cyl 3. Didn't check after the piston soak though.
