Default Treadstone Core vs Ebay Cores before after logs?

I want to get a FMIC, but was waiting to buy a treadstone TR6 core (i don't want to cut crash bar) and just buy the ebay piping. I searched on here for a while and could only find posts about guys who upgraded to treadstones but not any logs. Anyone have any logs with ebay core then treadstone after for a similar sized cores?

I saw that pic and trust me I've been searching like a mad man. I just was wondering if someone had logs I could check out. I've already spend a lot. I could buy ebay kit right now but I'd rather go with a quality core if it's a huge difference.

My buddy has a treadstone tr8. Gets his BAT's super fuking low. Below IAT's all the time. Not sure how that works but it does. Definately go treadstone or something comparable. If you go cheap on the core you will definately be disappointed. I'll search around a bit and see if I can't find the log he posted the day we finally got the thing crammed in there and get back to you.

5 Minutes of searching.......jeopardy music.......TA DA!!

Found it....

As you can see, for a moment, his BAT's are a full 10 degrees cooler than his IAT's. That is until the turbo turns into a flamethrower and no intercooler, no matter how efficient or magical, could possibly keep up. The K04 just runs too hot. Anyway, definately go treadstone. I know I will when eventually go FMIC probably next summer.

Feels like I'm the only one running this intercooler around here. I love it, dimensions are perfect and in my opinion it has the best mounting option out of any intercooler I've seen.

Do NOT get a cheap core! Do it right and get a treadstone core the first time around. I have the cx racing core and during a pull in 82* weather bat's are only dropping 3* then start to climb back up, it's horrible..

I went with the treadstone after studying intercooler core design a bit. Superior cores have cross sectioned fins in the inside. This increases overall contact between the flowing air and the metal fins. the pics superskaterxes posted show this example. The cheap core just has pathways for the air to flow threw. The treadstone forces the air to constaly make contact with a new fin increasing its efficiency threw density without hampering flow.

Its a LOT of work going custom fmic. I didn't see any point in cutting and hacking for an entire weekend just to have lousy results because i cheaped out on the most important ingredient in the recipe. And the results speak for them self. The tr-8 sheds the heat so fast my bats are consistently at IAT or lower no matter the temp.

As Ray Danger 2020 pointed out with my datalog, (and i've got dozens more just like it) Its not impossible to get your BAT's near ambient with a good core. Its made a huge difference in my tuning. I'm running more boost and more timing than i ever have and the car is completely happy with it. With a better turbo, one would see even better results especially toward redline where the K04 blows really hot.

Thanks man! I'm definitely getting a treadstone. I wasn't planning on getting a BT. I'm sticking with the K04. Is the TR6 sufficient or should I get the TR8? You cut your crash bar? I got Cobb TIP, injen CAI, autotech internals and Cobb AP. I need to install my m2 downpipe i have here just haven't had the time.

The TR-6 is sufficient. I went TR-8 because i intend to go BT someday. I can feel a noticeable difference in spool time with this big core on the little K04. It definitely takes longer to spool up. In that instance (spool) the top mount would be superior with a the TR-6 probably being the better fit for the K04 as far as size vs. spool goes.
But either way, the FMIC w/ treadstone provides chilly cool BAT's for the engine to consume.

You think I'll gain alot of lag with the TR6? I've driven 80s turbo cars and the lag was horrible. lol

You shouldn't gain a lot. I've driven his car since FMIC. It's still pretty instantaneous. I didn't drive it before hand though so I don't have a good comparison. There will still be a slight hesitation compared to a TMIC, but that's to be expected from all the extra space it has to pressurize.

Lol.....You can do away with a bigger IC....First I would do sti, tip, dp, internals, tune. Not specifically in that order. I dynoed at 320whp on stock tmic. It will help in the summer heat tho to keep the BATs down. But that is not an issue for me.

I got a Injen CAI, Cobb TIP, autotech internals, denso itv22s and Cobb Stage 1 OTS tune. What is a STI? You mean a SRI?

My mistake, I meant SRI. Buy you already have an intake.....So you next mod should be a DP before an IC.

I have an Ebay M2 DP ready to be installed. Also bought a vibrant performance v-band clamp too. Just need to find the time to install it.

Was that number done on a dyno ? I find that number a bit high .

Not a lot but there will be some. There's considerable more piping to pressurize compared to the top mount regardless of what core you go with. I would bet if I dropped in a TR-6 in place of my TR-8 it would spool a little faster. The TR-6 would be a perfect fit for the K04 imho, while the TR-8 is a bit of overkill.

Well I did say I dynoed at 320whp......I have dynos to prove it And no, I never said it was a MS6, nor did I mention a stock dp. And that was done on a 50/50 tune.
