Is this a VVT noise?

So I have been reading around the forum about VVT failures and it got me a little bit scared.

Right now I am still under the "extended warranty," and I am planning on going to my local dealer tomorrow to see if this work has ever been done, and if they can do it for me (for free). The car originally came from Tacoma, has had two owners there, and then the guy (I bought it from) had it for a year and shipped up to Alaska, then I bought it.

He said he'd driven the car about 8,000 miles, and ever had a problem with it; which he really didn't know much about the car anyways, so I am not going to trust him. Anyways, the only reason I am telling you this is because he had the car in fairbanks (i.e. gets down to -30 degrees). So could this maybe start the problem?

And since i've never heard a -clean startup- I don't know if this a normal start. Does this sound normal? I've owned this car for about two months and always sounds the same.

(btw my battery is a little dead, and it was around 15 degrees, so that might be the hesitation when I started it).

And is that shutdown normal? (kinda like a big burp and shake down... till the engine is off)

thanks

Sounds fine.

It would be nice if you could re-shoot the video with the hood open and the camera closer to the oil cap filer.

Bear in mind that the vvt does make some noise at start-up. Since it is cold by you expect some other noises too!

That doesn't sound normal or like a vvt start up noise. The vvt makes a loud 3-4 clacking sounds in the first initial seconds after a cold start. The video is not the greatest but you may have stretched timing chain which could have been casued my a bad vvt.

ok sorry guys I have been sick (real sick).... I'll soon make a new video and thread...

Thanks

Fucking VVT paranoia, shit will eat you alive lol... I have timed my motor multiple times cuz of it. I wonder how many (if not all) of the times were unnecessary.

Don't make a new thread.
This one is just fine.

that sounds pretty normal. i had the timing chain death rattle and had it fixed. when i would start my car you could hear the timing chain scraping on the cover for about 3 or 4 seconds at initial start up. it was a metal on metal sound. yours sounds nothing like mine did. just keep an eye on it...and remember that if its starting to fail the chain will get more slack over time, so if you hear the metal on metal sound, get it fixed asap!!!

Yea thats what I am thinking. When I initially made this thread I was just scared and a little paranoid , but just yesterday I saw a speed 3 and speed 6 and they sounded about the same and all.

But I'm soon going to the dealer to see if anything has been done to this car. Haha I'm so curious !!!!!!!!!!:scared1:
