You're not supposed to run them this close together as they interfere with each other. While the interference may be minimal, it could be the difference in an early detection (and a ticket). They should be a minimum 3 feet apart.

Not to worry.

The STI Driver does not emit _anything_ and does not interfer. Believe me, if it did, the V-1 would be all over it.

CosmicArkie - Not true. There has been multiple testing done and the results indicated some interference. It effects the processing speed. It is on the RD forum (Radar Detector & Laser Jammer Forum). For anyone running a detector, I would take a look and a read.

I bought the escort 8500 and it sucks bad,
I get a lot of false alarms and when there is a cop it's 50/50 it would detect
There is a programmable setting but I have no idea how to
Anyone use this model as well?

I had this and it worked OK. You can turn of X-band (as there are many here locally). If you are getting K-band falses, it could be door radar as well as some Cobra detectors. No RD will pick up radar if it is not on. Sometimes locals do not have them on or they have gotten smart and use quick trigger. No real laser threat here (some staties use them). If you are unhappy upgrade. You can give PM me more details of when you don't get tracked and where.

Redline (and the STi Driver) are the only ones that cannot be detected by police. I suppose the STi+ cannot but it is remote installed. You still have to make sure that it cannot be seen.

No problem. Redline is great. Mount it high so it can't be seen.

check out this site if your in the market for a Escort Passport 9500ix Radar/Laser Detector (Blue) BuyDig.comBuyDig.com - Escort Passport 9500ix Radar/Laser Detector (Blue)

just picked one up for $409 shipped (advertised at $499.) they say that they are authorized dealers of escort products seems pretty legit to me.

just email the sales department and ask for the cheapest price they'll give you.(thats how i got it for 409)

UPDATE-7-1-12been using the device for awhile now, it has saved me tons of times already. the biggest thing to remember is that this radar detector is just that a RADAR DETECTOR not a police detector.

i know the CHP prolly sticks with laser around here but couldn't resist such a cheap price.

Because I got the rain sensor crap, can't install above mirror with what's on the market. Saw another guy using bike reflector mount, so after visit to the hardware store with piece of aluminum and some screws:

Not completely stealth but better than before. Total cost about $10.

You guys are mounting those way too high. Radar detectors are supposed to be mounted low. Cops point their guns at the bumper, headlights, and license plates. Not at the roof of the car.

NOT correct. There is no pointing with radar. The radar beams coming at you are very wide (across three lanes of traffic) so it does not matter low or high. It will hit your car at about the same time. In addition, it could pick up the speed of the vehicle next to you. This is especially true if it is a larger object (more waves are reflected back from it). Laser will make a difference because it is a much smaller beam but by the time you are notified, you are toast. So I am saying that Radar Roy is wrong.

Let me google that for you

The owners manual will teach you a lot about your device. When you learn how to use it, you will enjoy it. The 8500 isn't a bad detector at all. The V1 is better, but the 8500 isn't bad.

I've been driving with it for a long time, so I know what each band sounds like. Soon you'll understand what is putting off the Radar/LIDAR signal and you'll know what's going on. Remember, it's not a police detector, it only detects radar signals. Oh, and when you hear the LIDAR buzz, you'll crap yourself at first, then realize you're getting a fat ticket.

Nice install Silkyms3

to keep this going...
i have a passport 8500 and ive had cobra and whistler as well.
i have gotten pulled over twice in nc and the passport and the whistler caught nothing.
my boss had informed me of something called light-ar. like radar but it uses light and calculates the speed that the vehicle is moving.
i read earlier on this thread on something RMR or PMP. something like that.
the two times i got pulled over and ticketed in NC, one was during the day the other at night.
anything that i can use so i can be notified of this contraption?
i still have the 8500 and thinking of purchasing the 9500i, 9500ix, or the V-1.
thanks

Bought a used Valentine 1 for the SEMA drive last year. This January I decided it's time to get a new one and sell my old one to a friend for a great price. I typically drive 5 under the speed limit to be gas conscious, but for road trips it is an absolute life saver.

For future reference: I bought the Country Joy Crafts V1 mount and the 23mm version DOES NOT fit the standard mirror in my 2011 MS3. I repeat: if you have a Gen 2 MS3 without the autodim/Homelink mirror, you need the 3/4" version of the Country Joy mount.

Love my 9500i so far. It's yet to save me but the gps feature is nice, I've locked a few spots out already. I have no real need for the speed camera and stuff the 9500ix has so I'm happy so far. I'll be even more content when it saves me.

Does the 9500 have the ability to override the GPS lockout if it senses a stronger than normal alert, or a larger quantity of sources?

Thanks for the link Downmented.

I have actually been to a laser penetration test in my area with folks from that forum.

My question was answered by looking through the 9500 manual. It does not appear that the unit is smart enough to know if there are "new" alerts in a GPS-lockout location.

So with that in mind, folks who use the GPS lockout should remain especially cognizant of "fundraising efforts" in the areas they have chosen to ignore alerts.

Interesting, I thought I read that it would still pick up on different bands or if more than one signal hit. Not a big deal for me as all the spots I locked out are in a spot that is hard to speed in, and harder for a cop to sit.

So it seems like most people have their 9500ix mounted to the left of the rear view mirror in the upper most portion of the windshield. I was under the impression that the best location for it was centered low on the windshield.

Depends on what you want. Low is best for picking up laser scattering, since they target your plate or headlights and the beam doesn't spread much. High provides better radar warning, especially for hills.

I mount my Whistler right by the rear view.
