These were fragments from that first VVT actuator that you had replaced and not the new one, right?

Im not the expert, but the piston looks OK from the angle you gave

How are the ring land on the pistons?

I would not worry about the #3 wrist pin hole on the piston if you cleaned everything well and the pin goes in with a minimum of resistance (and if the pins surface is not dented)

Some of my OEM wrist pins required some force to get in, even if they were free of scratches and put back in the same piston (even getting them out required some force)

Anxious to see what the experts have to say

Number 3 piston

Number 4 piston. I noticed some of the coating is coming off the side of the piston. Should I be worried?

Now the one thing that caught my attention is the lack of signs of any impact of piston by the valve.

Is it actually possible that the low compression is the result of timing being off, and the noise is of that shit bouncing around?

How are the rings...this may explain the low compression on cylinder 2...if not, the fact that you moved the VVT to tighten the chain may have offset the timing on cylinder 2 just enough to affect compression!?!?

And that would be a simple-ish fix. Reassemble, and redo timing and such. No new motor. Just time right.

When timing the motor, align the VVt to the cam with the mark you made initialy...and if you need to tighten the chain, loosen the exhaust cam

Dont forget to make sure piston 1 is at TDC (crankshaft sitting on the DTC pin)

Here is BlueStreak how-to as a reference : How To: Assemble A Forged Motor

Well. A lot of the parts are on their way to my house. I'm cleaning up parts. Also I'm taking my intake manifold apart and cleaning it. Painting things too.
