Default P0300 Random / Multiple Cylinder Misfires

Hi everyone,

Glad to see folks migrated instead of disappearing from the other forums. I changed my sparkplugs the other day at 60,000 miles. Put in Autolite Extreme Iridiums, the part verified as for my vehicle by the guy at Oreilly's (who I actually do trust). The gap on the plug is at .051, which was what was specified. I know the plugs I removed from the motor were gapped at around .029.

I went pedal to the metal last night and the check-light came on. Got back to the house and plugged into the computer and pulled P0300 - Random / Multiple Cylinder Misfires. Any chance this is related to the plug change, or gap in particular?

I'm pretty sure I didn't screw up the firing order since we have coil caps and I only did one plug at a time.

Thanks for your thoughts.

I thought that might be it... But then I don't understand why the gap is being published as .051 for all the plugs you buy at any store? Was also told cannot re-gap iridium plugs.

yes what you are experiencing is spark blowout (cylinder pressure literally killing spark)

you can gap those carefully with feeler gauges; or get a set of denso itv20 or itv22 that are easier to gap since they are out of the box with a smaller gap.

Don't the ITV20s come in the correct gap already? I got some ITV22s and they were already gapped to what they needed to be (I bought them from Amazon without checking the gap).
