Default GS ebcs vs. manual

i have looked and have not gotten an answer about a question i have.
for the peeps that have gone bt, are u still using the gs ebcs or
did u go to a manual boost controller? i have the GS on now, and it
works, but i am wondering if spool would be diff (better/worse) with
trying out the manual one i have..??..

Mbc:
Pros=easy to tune, cheaper.

Cons= you must run the same psi through the whole boost curve

Ebc:
Pro=can taper the curve however you want.

Cons=more expensive and harder to tune.

i started off on a GS EBC for the sake of boost by gear for traction. However atvfreek correctly diagnosed a problem i was having, when the car sees a certain % of injector duty cycle, it will pull wastegate to lower boost. I now run a MBC to prevent the computer from interfering until i can get some sort of 5th port and lower my injector duty cycle, then i plan to go back to the GS EBC.

It seems not all cars are affected by this, and not all seem to pull wastegate at the same duty cycle, my magic number was 92%, so i had to drop the boost a few pounds or switch to a manual...

I am using the Hallman Pro RX for easier tuning, but when I have the money I will be having Tim Bailey dyno tune me with the Grimmspeed 3-Port for a little quicker and little more accurate boost.

For load based tunes they have not corrected the issue. The next release should correct it.

The real problem with the GS 3 port is that when you get to a certain WGDC level and boost it can be very sensitive. A few WGDC% can cause a large variation in boost. This in turn can cause oscillations etc.

Essentially the ECU logic was not designed to work with the 3 port so the tables need quite a bit of massaging.

I am working on something to hopefully improve this situation but it has not earned its rights as fully functional just yet.

So a Boost tune would not pull wastegate the same way a load based tune would?? But i suppose if the next update fixes it like you said thats borderline irrelevant.

Some cars seem to be more effected than others. I have some cars that are the same year, and on the same turbo. One reduced wgdc when IDC is over 90% and the other will let it go over 100% IDC with no interference.

Also as Lex said, sometimes the grimmspeed can be very finicky. Some cars are really easy to tune on it and others are a complete PITA, and need ALOT of revisions. I prefer the 3port on my car, but I like to taper boost up toward redline to keep tq under 400. If I were to run 24psi on the BNR at 4k I would be well over 400tq and that's a little outside my comfort level on stock block.

I run the gs and just started seeing the IDC problem. My number was like 85ish. Pretty low. And like lex said. Wgdc took forever to finally figure out. And I'm on a boost tune and IDC wgdc issue is still there. Either that or I'm doing it Wrong.

It's around 80% IDC in most cars but this may be affected by temps etc. COBB should be releasing a fix for this ... can't wait for it since winter time is the worse due to the colder air for this issue.

Mines one of those that's a complete pita
But it's not behaving properly even with a MBC, so, got to do some troubleshooting this week
