why not just add some lateral brace to it like a + configuration ?

Because re-doing the same thing expecting differents results seem bad to me...

Lateral bracing won't change a thing. The dimensions of the mount cause it to act as a lever arm at that weld. It's very easy to remove from the car, if it breaks again I'll take it to someone that can get good penetration through the metal.

Do a CPE and make it two pieces screwed together with 20 M4 screws without threadlocker.

Got the bungs welded up yesterday, just need to get the rail mounting points on and coat it and it's done. Also my injectors came in the mail, went with FIC 1000s.

Made up a bracket for the custom shift cables which I should hopefully have any day.

Also, repowder coated my battery tray cus it was covered in battery acid. It's pretty much impossible to make this color look good on my phone, but I'm loving it.

Just finishing up the manifold. Another 10 hours or so of polishing and then it'll be ready to put back on the car!
TiGraySpeed6 and Micha like this.

Made a bit of progress this weekend, not nearly as much as I would've liked but yanking the old shifter cables out and modifying the shifter assembly took more time than I thought it would and I also need to tweak the bracket I made for the new cables in order for the intake to clear it. I also spent a good amount of time being ocd and cleaning the engine bay and everything underneath the center console. But the car is more cleaner now and the shifter assembly accepts the new cables and after I get this bracket tweaked it should go together nicely.

The good news though is that I sold the engine out of the old 6 so I can pretty much buy everything that still on my shopping list and start knocking out some of those other things on the list.

Who made those cables? Will they offer them off the shelf in the future?

They're from Midwest Controls. They were a custom order, Midwest doesn't offer any application specific products. I'll post up pictures and specs once i have everything in the car and it's all fit up properly.

The worst part so far has been removing the stock cables and the new ones aren't as bulky so they should go in fairly easily. Removing the balls from the shifter is just a matter of grinding off the weld on the back. Also the new ones have 1/4-28 threads so the shifter can be dialed in exactly to how you want it so I'm looking forward to messing around with that.

One thing that I found I had to do with mine was cut some of the threads off of the cable ends. They were too long as they came from midwest control, longer than they spec'd, preventing the end from threading on all the way and limiting adjustment.

That stainless bracket looks super good btw.

I guess I should've have posted my thread up here, just never got around to it.

As promised, something sexy. I finally finished my manifold, just need to give it powder. Took a little over 20 hours to polish it and I couldn't be happier with how it turned out!

I also made my SS controller disconnectable. I'll be making the three harnesses for it once I get the other controller and figure out where I'm mounting them.

Threw some clear powder on the mani yesterday. I went with a new clear that's supposed to give a glass like finish. It really pops with the right light on it, I'm having a tough time getting it in pictures but you can kind of see it on the sides of the plenum and inlet elbow.

Got a bit more done this weekend. Picked up my radials from @Micha;, engine mount changed out, checked fitment of the modified cable plate and got the shifter shaft on the trans modified to accept the new cables. Also spent a bunch of time cleaning the frame rails and trans, much cleaner but still a bit more to go. Next weekend I'll get the cables installed in the car. Oh yea, and the fail. Went to put the CS injector seals in and it turns out I totally misheard Micha when I got the car from him as it already has Cp-e injector seals on it. So the CS seals won't be going on.

This week has been good to me so far. I've gotten parts in the mail every night so far haha. All of the parts for the PI kit showed up minus the injector controller and relay wiring. I also got my new projectors from TRS, just waiting on new lenses now. I spent a bit of time yesterday smoothing out the cable bracket, it looks better but not perfect. I should hopefully be getting most of the fueling stuff in this weekend as well as finish up the cables. Then next weekend I'm hoping to finish up the fueling stuff and get the wiring all squared away. If things all go according to plan I should have the car done and ready to fire the first weekend of March!

Lastly, I decided to get the car tuned by PD. I'm looking forward to working with @2.0t03speed; to make some good power

is that all you upgraded in the headlights is the projector? (Don't hate guys, i know there is a serious build going on here...and lights are the last on your mind. but i recently noticed how shitty mine were, been looking at the trs kit) would love to see if it is in fact just the projector itself that makes a huge difference or also their ballast. Really thinking of building my own duel projector (hi/low) setup.

I bought the projectors, 4.5k bulbs, pnp harnesses and a splitter harness that allows for dual high beams. All of it was around $220 from TRS. The factory ballasts can power these up just fine so I saw no need to upgrade them. They're also packaged nicely onto the headlight so I didn't want to make more clutter by having to mount new ballasts somewhere.

Things are coming along swimmingly this weekend. Almost finished getting the shifter cables in last night and today I'll start getting into the gas tank. I unfortunately found a broken connector on my injector harness so the manifold won't be going in until i can get my spare from school. But the manifold is all set to go back into the car, going to have a lot of wiring work to do soon!

Once again, I didn't get as much done as I wanted this past weekend but here's where I'm at:

- Passenger side fuel tank tophat is out and will be mounting additional fuel pump to it this week. This weekend I'll put it back in the car and run the feed and return lines and get it wired up.

- Shifter cables are in the car but the bracket has to be modified one more time because one of the cables is in the way of the intake.

- Vacuum lines are rerouted and I'm waiting on a vacuum block to connect them to.

- Started stripping front engine harness to move some wires around.

- Chopped up old brackets to mount the purge solenoid, ignition capacitor, and EBCS elsewhere.

- Got the manifold all set to go into the car except for the vacuum fittings and I'm waiting on my 4 bar map sensor to come in the mail.

- Figured out dimensions for a mounting bracket to hold both SS controllers, will make that bracket this week.

- Started dialing in the shifter cables. I think I've got them just about right but 4th gear feels a bit shorter than the rest (it doesn't pull back as far as 2 and 6) and I can't remember if that's normal or not. It's also pretty touchy about going into 1st and 2nd. If I pull to the left too hard it won't go into gear. I'm sure I can get that fixed with more adjustments but I'm still unsure of the 4th gear thing, if someone could check that for me it'd be appreciated.

I've got a long weekend this coming weekend so I'm hoping to get a good chunk done and have the car fired or just about ready to fire the weekend after. Still waiting on some parts so hopefully that doesn't hold me up.

It's also pretty touchy about going into 1st and 2nd. If I pull to the left too hard it won't go into gear. I'm sure I can get that fixed with more adjustments but I'm still unsure of the 4th gear thing, if someone could check that for me it'd be appreciated.
Shifting with the engine off vs shifting while idling vs shifting while driving will all feel completely different. Adjusting the cables won't do much good until you can take it for a drive and test it.

And I noticed when trying to shift with the engine off and adjust the cables that it sometimes wouldn't go all the way into certain gears. Start the engine up and that goes away.

Hope it goes well for you. I'm currently in turbo swap hell. AWD makes things difficult sometimes.

Appreciate the tips. I know turbo swaps all too well haha, if you haven't already, pull the wiper cowl off. It frees up a ton of room to work.

Well I should have a nice update after the weekend for you guys. This weekend looks beautiful, 60°F the whole time so I'll be able to work with the garage open! I've got just about all of my parts and the rest should be arriving today.

As for this past week I got pretty much everything done except one thing.

Got the pump mounted under the passenger tophat (the zip ties are going to be replaced with stainless ones).

I *think* I've got the shifter cable bracket modified correctly.

I finally got my SS controller for the PI and made a mounting plate for both controllers, it will sit on top of my frame rail where the one was mounted before.

I've got almost all the wiring stuff, just need to get some small ground straps and an add a circuit for the fuel pump relay. My new coil harness is arriving today, and my spare injector harness and the rest of the wiring stuff is already waiting for me with the car.

Lastly, I also got the new headlight lenses last night (+1 for fast China shipping) so if I get enough time I might be able to pop those and the new projectors in.

So basically you get rid of the bottom basket to fit the dual pump setup ?

That is the final pump setup. I didn't get rid of anything, just put holes in the tophat for the bulkhead fittings, tied up the pump, and connected it all up. One bulkhead is the feed, one's the return and the last is for the pump wires.

The 6 has two tophats on the fuel tank. The driver's side holds the stock fuel pump tophat which I have a DW65C in that feeds my DI injectors and my 6th port. This is the passenger side tophat that just has the float for the fuel level sensor and a crossover tube for the stock pump to pull from that side of the tank and the pump that I added will only feed to the port injectors.

thanks, i didn't played there yet...
And if you mention the 6 have 2 tophat...i bet the 3 don't ?
I checked some dual pump setup where both were installed together...This may explain why...(And why i was expecting to see the same....)

Welp, got a lot done this weekend and I'm pretty satisfied. Should be wrapping it up next weekend or just about. Car is up and running as of earlier today. Had a good chunk of fail but nothing that some extremely loud screaming and cussing couldn't fix. Can't wait to get the rest of the fueling done and start tuning with PD.

I finished getting the shifter cables in, my last revision to the bracket makes them fit about as good as it'll get with my setup. I still have adjusting to do, getting into 1st from a stop or 2nd from a roll is a fight half the time. The one cable that controls the left/right movement is holding the shifter a bit towards the right in neutral so I'm guessing that it'll be good to go once I get it centered. As for driving, I love it. The shift feel is super notchy and there's zero vagueness about where you're going with the shifter. Overall I feel much more connected to the trans.

Here's a quick shot of my engine bay as is (I still have a good chunk of wiring work to do) I picked up a coil tuck harness from @myarbro1; (search Mazdaspeed wire tuck on facebook) and all I can say is the workmanship is superb and the new harness feels and looks very high quality. I wouldn't think twice about buying another harness from him. Now just to find a better charge piping route to show it off a bit better...

Oh and lastly, after two months I finally got my plates for the car

Good to see you finally got it running.

As far as shifter adjustment, with mine I started with it so that all the way left against the stop and then forward makes it just sink into first. From there making small adjustments to get it balanced was pretty easy. One turn of the threads at a time, put it back together, and drive it. I spent a few weeks playing with it. I sacrificed the feel of first a bit since it's less important. I'm sure you'll get it dialed in. Glad to see you like the feel of them, notchy and direct definitely sums it up.

My left/right cable is a bit sluggish coming back to center from the right, I think the centering springs just aren't strong enough. Never really bothers me though.

That wire tuck is sexy btw. I'm super jelly of your engine bay.

Kind of off topic, but I went to do a muffler delete on my car to begin a custom exhaust, and I noticed some jackass previous owner decided to weld the bolts into the why pipe, did anyone else have this issue if anyone else is running no mufflers?

Got my headlights done this weekend. The new projectors and lenses are just awesome. It's soooo much brighter than the shitty stock setup and crap lenses. The dual high beams are just dumb with how bright they are. I absolutely recommend this to anyone wanting good headlights and actually wants to see at night.

Other than that I did a bit more cleaning, changed my oil and started wiring up my second SS controller. This coming weekend I'll finish up all the wiring and get the feed and return lines ran for the PI. I got my base map from Ryan as well but didn't have time to get it on the car since I've still got a half tank of E50 in the car. Hopefully next weekend I can run through that fuel and get some logs to him.

Decided I may as well powder coat my FD wheels since I had to get the tires dismounted. Should have the whole set done by the end of the week. I really need to stop powder coating everything *eye twitch*

how the **** do you get that much flake in the powder coating?
the powder coating shop here told me it is impossible to add more metallic or flakes on the powder mixture.

keep it up, love the updates!!

Also how do you like Vesatuner? as i am not sure on how to tune my car when it is finished
(get it at the tuner and flash is there on the dyno, or do buy versatuner and do a e-tune.)

the powder coating shop here told me it is impossible to add more metallic or flakes on the powder mixture.

keep it up, love the updates!!

Also how do you like Vesatuner? as i am not sure on how to tune my car when it is finished
(get it at the tuner and flash is there on the dyno, or do buy versatuner and do a e-tune.)
I haven't tried adding flake, but I don't see why you wouldn't be able to. As for getting enough flake down, it's something that's taken me some practice to get right.

I love Versatuner. Steve and Ugnius are very responsive of the community needs and they offer a very user friendly tuning package. I recommend it to everyone who wants to tune their speed.

TRS retrofit?
