100K Mile Pu

1 Attachment(s)
Well, after buying my Gen2 with 2 whole miles on it on Nov 1 2009, I'm happy to announce I just rolled over 100000 miles. C'mon gimme some cred. I gotta be the first Pu.

My first 100000 mile impression: Pretty damn good.
I've beat this car to hell. 16 autox events, all in the southern heat with a co-driver. This thing even got me FTD both sessions this past weekend. Swapped only one smokey turbo so far at 80k miles. (that ones about to head to BNR). I can honestly say I think I can go another 100k.

shifter48 08-20-2012 07:03 PM

Makes me feel good with my '12. Congrats.

Magsz 08-20-2012 07:05 PM

Any other changes?

What did you do for regular maintenance?

doctavus 08-20-2012 07:05 PM

WOW, very nice.

Any drive-ability issues?

When did you have to replace brakes and clutch?

Any leaks or weird noises?

Lack of power noticeable if any?

Ryguy 08-20-2012 07:10 PM

Congrats man, makes me proud to have a pu

Dash08 08-20-2012 07:11 PM

This just makes me feel awesome only having 28K on an 08 that I bought new.

Low miles FTW!

Roddiy 08-20-2012 07:15 PM

Shiiiit.

Since when have you had that RP in?

How's your tune?

Typical rotella t6 since day one. Swapped tranny fluid. Cleaned valves twice so far. I have a meth kit sitting in the house but i can't run it in SCCA. About to get tuned by Drunkmann Tuning so I might get him to set me up with two seperate tunes. and an OCC will be added shortly after i saw how bad the valves were after such a short time.

Zero drivability issues.
No problems with the clutch so haven't touched it.
No leaks or weird noises.
Lack of power only due to dirty valves. Got it back after cleaning and doing a DIY PnP and deleting the VTCS flappers and bar.

Original clutch @ 100k miles? Wow, Mazda built it to last.

Yup. But really its a lot of highway miles. No crazy drag races here.

R.MS3 08-20-2012 09:31 PM

It would be good to check compression on the motor right now, just for reference. A lot of 1st gen's would start losing compression on cyl 3 past the 60-75k mark, including the one i had.

Since I haven't noticed any drop in performance ( Its nice to have another to compare it too) I haven't really worried about it. But its actually on my list of things to do this weekend. I'll post results.

Speed3eak 08-20-2012 09:53 PM

I'd like to see you hit up a dyno to see what power you're making with just the Intake/race pipe.

That's easy to say when you don't have to drive there and pay for it lol. If you have an AP, maybe datalog + virtualdyno? At any rate, great job on not booming with that many autox events.

Are you tuned? What boost are you targeting?

That's only like 7,000 a year lol

fortressofcomfort 08-20-2012 11:38 PM

How much oil does it burn i.e. how often do you have to add oil between changes?

Why would you expect it to go boom after 16 autocross events? That's not very many.

Saves me money on insurance.

Now, if I could only stop beating the piss out of it every time I drive, I'd be saving on wear and tear also. lol

Running the Cobb stage 2 OTS till probably this weekend then going to be tuned by Drunkmann Tuning. He's big in the scubie and evo world around here in the FL panhandle. Looking to target 20.

x2. Permanent co-driver. ( GF) so really its around 32. Not THAT many but with basically zero.problems besides a Smokey turbo. I'm still impressed and very happy with the car.

Caveman4684 08-21-2012 05:17 AM

Is the smoking turbo a common issue? I think I remeber seeing it in another thread.

Then maybe you should go back and read that thread instead of derailing this one.

A simple yes or no would have been much easier for you to type.

But sarcasm is much more satisfying. And a simple yes or no is just not the way we do things around here. Welcome to owning a Mazdaspeed, we do things the hard way.

crankshaft 08-21-2012 06:33 AM

Very nice. That's good to hear.

Well all bullshit aside, congrats on 100k. I'm looking forward to many years and miles with my MS3. I read you use Rotella T6. I started using this in my cars about five years ago. I spent a lot of time BITOG and was finaly convinced that if there is a best oil for turbo cars that's it. I've never submitted an oil analysis of my own, but I trust the thousands of others who have.

Raider 08-21-2012 06:53 AM

Congrats! I think the only real worry is the VVT and chain at 120K. The rest, KCCO.

jonspeed3 08-21-2012 07:01 AM

Wish I oculd feel as confident in mine. 84K miles and feels like its falling apart :/

Sorry, poorly phrased. 100k miles + 16 autox events seems like a lot of work for an engine. He did say that he had a lot of highway miles on it though.

idk, these cars do have great motors. Maybe I should have left that part out of the post I made.

daafisch 08-21-2012 08:01 AM

Nice!. I bought my Gen1 in April of 09 and I'm at 99k. About 30 autocross events and 15 track days later she's still doing good as well.

fishin53 08-21-2012 08:16 AM

fuck i thought i had a lot on my gen 2 with 60k on it now from buying it sept 09.

good luck with it and i feel like mine can make it there also easily

CodeMan 08-21-2012 08:21 AM

Nice man. I just turned over 20k in my '10. Nice to know I can expect some years out of her.

3Gee Tee 08-21-2012 08:23 AM

This thread gives me hope among all the other ZZB threads.

It's about maintaining and doing all the research you can to do things intelligently. Hell, I had 90k miles on my 04 rx8 with the infamous renesis and ZERO issues or dealership visits. And those engines were finicky as fuck. Oh and throw in a shit ton of luck and good karma and you should be OK.

fredricktsang 08-21-2012 09:15 AM

Makes me feel a lot better about having 35k miles on my 2011 ms3 that i picked up last july hahha. I recently bought another dd (96 miata) to keep some miles of the ms3 haha.

ESB Jiu JItsu 08-21-2012 10:12 AM

congrats sir thats awesome!!!! im on 110,000 on my stock ecu, stock block, stock clutch, stock FP ms6 and still driving her hard as hell and moding like there is no tomorrow :)

trf5000 08-21-2012 10:19 AM

I really want to see the results of the compression test. If all is good, that will be awesome.

I am just curious why you are going to be custom tuned by someone who isn't proficient in the mazdaspeed platform rather than getting an Etune from someone on here? Port injected turbos are way different from direct injected turbos. Not to mention you could be supporting a fellow member... Just something to think about....

Adam99l 08-21-2012 10:40 AM

Congrats! You put as many miles on your car in a month as i have in the last year haha.

I understand completely. But this guy has a speed3 as well and has done significant tuning to it and is also a member here. Its also nice having someone across town where I can swing by there in 15 min and he can be in my car with his laptop figuring shit out. And not to mention he's giving me a significantly reduced rate. :arms:

dot584 08-21-2012 11:36 AM

Lol I have 25k right now on my 6 after buying it used two years ago with 14k. I hope my car lasts that long, because at my pace Ill have this car for almost 15 more years before I'm at your mileage! Thanks to this forum/thread I believe its possible.

Congrats. Seems to be a lot of hit and miss with these engines judging from people's posts.

3Gee Tee 08-22-2012 10:55 AM

Also depends on mods and amount of abuse.

dot584 08-22-2012 07:21 PM

And the amount of maintenance you do to your ride. If you watch your tune and make corrections everyonce in a while as well as good maintenance there is a good chance your motor will last.

100,00 miles is crazy! I hate the feeling of knowing my Pu has a little over 40,000 miles on it and I bought it new in Oct of '09.

011MS3 09-10-2012 11:31 AM

Very impressive indeed.

zmarko 09-10-2012 06:15 PM

Quite a milestone! Glad it's still running well. Curious as to where your travels have taken her. :)

Surprisingly not anywhere too crazy. Down to Tampa a few times. Over to Jacksonville a few times. North Georgia woods. All over the gulf coast. But basically I'm beginning to call it my "grinder". I do around 110 miles a day going to work and back 5 days a week. And before we bought our second pu we drove my car everywhere around town.

PL ENDO 09-11-2012 02:59 PM

dam now im scared with my whole 811 miles on my 2012 i fear it wont last like yours lol
