15.9gal eh?

A local MS3 owner that does not frequent the forum just sent me these pictures. He went 10 miles with the digital gauge on 0 before filling up. You can sure fit a lot of gas in the filler line...

When I had the Speed, as much as I milked a tank of gas in that thing, I never reached a point where I filled up more than the tank's 14.5-gallon capacity. I believe I had to fill up as much as 14.2 gallons once, but I am not trying to condone such a lack of regard for a vehicle, since running a tank dry could cause damage.

leon78 08-29-2012 01:11 PM

Well piss in my ass...I still only get 18 mpg in town...I dont even keep track of shit like that....like a fucking boss!

h0ckeyman 08-29-2012 01:17 PM

my gas light comes on, I fill up and it's only 12.5 gal...

kabobulate 08-29-2012 01:21 PM

I've never been past 13 myself. I almost didn't believe the tank was 15.9... and then this happened.

3Gee Tee 08-29-2012 01:22 PM

Now I have seen it all.

Except a man eating his own face.

kabobulate 08-29-2012 01:29 PM

He said that it clicked off at 14 gallons and then he topped off to 17 very slowly.

Raider 08-29-2012 01:31 PM

P2187 error should be there soon.

Send this to your buddy:

3Gee Tee 08-29-2012 01:32 PM

Did he fill it up while it was still running? lol.

chuckms6 08-29-2012 01:40 PM

his evap canister is probably holding that extra gallon

mtnrunner 08-29-2012 01:48 PM

With that much fuel i am betting that the pump wasnt calibrated right and he didnt actually get 17 gallons...either way this is pure fail.

Yeah, I've had the light come on and my computer say 1 mile remaining when I filled up and I was at 12.4 something gallons.

Something fishy here

Darth_Nuruodo 08-29-2012 02:37 PM

inb4 17 Liters in canadanadia.

You can keep driving when the computer says 0 miles to... I've done it a couple times:doh:

Something does seem a little odd with 17 gallons though.

Stingray69 08-29-2012 05:37 PM

Do us a favor make sure he don't come "frequent the forum". We already have some dumbasses here. Why does this shit always get associated with us genpu guys............FUCK!

$70 for 17 Liters? Our gas is expensive, but not that expensive.

17 liters $17...Canadian gas math is easy. Lol

SWAY 08-29-2012 05:50 PM

Sucks for you bitches paying that much, takes 40$ to fill my car.

Sent from my Galaxy Nexus

ms3blackmica 08-29-2012 05:52 PM

in before EVAP problems lawl

Spoofmastafly 08-29-2012 05:53 PM

Always ran my tank dry.

scubasteve711 08-29-2012 07:26 PM

Jeez, I thought I pushed it.... Most I've ever put in is 15... I don't top it off like that though, wft!

timjs 08-29-2012 07:49 PM

That is extremely stupid to fill up the neck like that.

If liquid gasoline gets into the charcoal canister it WILL destroy it.

Sheesh.

Haltech 08-29-2012 08:10 PM

It's more alarming to see $70 going into that tank at only 17 gallons. Thanks Obama...

texasboy21 08-29-2012 08:35 PM

I usually fill up 12-12.5 gallons, and get 18mpg city. I calculate it religiously.

lets ignore the fact that "topping off" is idiotic.

why? why try to squeeze 3 more gallons, hell 3 more ounces? whats the point?

forcedinduktion 08-29-2012 10:38 PM

15.9 is with the 2 gal reserve.

He is stocking up for the price lol

darkcherry 08-29-2012 10:43 PM

In before heat expansion and not knowing why all the fuel leaked out and has a leak in tank.

xtasy 08-29-2012 10:46 PM

That better be E85

fallenangel1 08-30-2012 06:15 AM

In before any codes or failures!!!

Day 2 with 50 miles on this tank of gas and no sign of trouble yet.

Now for all the haters, I typically only top of to about 12-14 gal. and I usually try to fill up while I still have a 1/4 tank of gas left. This was just one of those situations that it just happened to work out this way. I was about 10 miles away from "my" gas station so I rode it out. When the pump kicked off at 14gal I considered that I had driven on 0 for a bit so I may get 15 in today and call it a a day, but as I was filling it up I always watch my tank not the pump. I do not want to accidentally spill gas down the side of my car if the pump doesn't auto-shut off. By the time I checked the pump out I was over 16gal. at this point I was intrigued.. thinking "my tanks only a 15.9 gal tank" .. That's when madness set in and I just had to see how much the tank would hold!!

Sure it may not be the smartest thing and I doubt Ill ever do it again .. It was just one of those times where curiosity took over and logic and reason went out the window! :)

For those wondering about the fuel type and the cost .. this was 93 octane at a BP here in Indianapolis, IN. I do have a "members" card so I get $0.10 off per gallon. I'd imagine our prices here are better than those in Chicago and other larger cities though.

LOL .. Kabob said that I don't frequent these forums. This doesn't mean I haven't been around for a while. I think its funny how each forum has certain members that think that their post count or join date actually means something. :P

Raider 08-30-2012 06:41 AM

LOL, silly brownie. Post count and join date has nothing to do with being a poo brown brownie. Yeah, you have trolled and made no effort to be a valuable asset to the community other than to work on fucking up your purge valve.

You might want to read the links in my sig after enjoying the booger eater gif.

That was my point, just because I haven't posted a lot on here doesn't mean I haven't posted anywhere else. I've been a part of many other forums and been a very active member of those forums. Just because I've not spent any amount of time on here doesn't necessarily make me a noob. Thanks for caring so much its nice to see there are members like you everywhere! ;)

Raider 08-30-2012 06:58 AM

Happy to help. Glad to see you at least got an avatar.

IF you get P2187, at least now you know why. There is even a how-to on replacing it.

And as for other forums, they do not count. Really, they dont.

Just stop. I don't want to be texting you trying to talk you out of slitting your wrists tonight after these guys start ripping you up. :)

Yea this is a terrible idea. Years ago, before I understood how any of this shiz worked, I was commuting a lot in my old car, and I started overfilling it to get a couple of more days between fill ups. Before long I started noticing that my car was clicking the pump off too early. After a month or so I just had to stand there for 20 minutes dripping 1/10 of a gallon in there over and over. Went to the dealership and they say "your charcoal canister is completely soaked for some reason. Be a couple of hundred to replace it."

Long story short... Dumb idea. Don't worry, it doesn't happen in 50 miles, give it a few hundred and you'll look like a moron at the pump.

shifter48 08-31-2012 08:52 AM

There's two things you don't want to do to the fuel syatem in the new cars...1..don't over fill to contamidate the evap system...2..don't run the the gas tank less than 1/8-1/4 tank so you keep the internal fuel pump submerged.

I'm only paying 3.74/gal right now, and i though it was getting expensive...lol

U MAD BRAH?

smurugby12 09-05-2012 06:20 AM

I top my car of to get to the next whole dollar. If the pumps stops at $35.27 dollar, I'll top it off to $36.00. Girls love this side of me

fallenangel1 09-05-2012 07:06 AM

So Im about 130 miles into this tank, I just lost the first bar on my gauge at ~120. No CEL's yet, lets hope it stays that way!! :)

AtTheDriveIn 09-05-2012 07:36 AM

I've ran out of gas plenty of times. The most I ever pumped was 15.2 gallons after the nozzle clicked. 17 gallons is nuts.

SpdDemon89 09-05-2012 08:42 AM

oooo so thats where your supposed to put the gas......makes sense though cuz my hand always smells like gas..... :wank:

Mclovin80 09-08-2012 10:28 AM

I just took my miles down to zero on the navigation read out and could only put 13.5 gallons in.....sounds like I need a more accurate measurement.

dbrier 09-08-2012 02:38 PM

I did the same thing yesterday and put in 14.0 gallons.
