2010 SWAS disconnected plus DSC & TSC is OFF - interesting Tagging: @harryclay; @Monotonous ONE; You guys remember the SWAS disconnect on 2010s and that the DSC button quits working after we disconnect the SWAS? Well, I figured out today that on my 2010, if I hold the DSC button while starting the car (5 seconds?), the DSC Light now illumines and remains illuminated after the car is started. For those that don't know (or remember), when doing the SWAS disconnect, the DSC button does nothing after the car is started - the button appears to be disabled. However, pressing & holding the button while starting appears to turn off DSC so now I have both DSC showing OFF and TSC showing OFF on the DASH (plus the Power Steering alert symbol). On a side/related note, I don't notice any issues with power steering at low speeds on my 2010 with the SWAS disabled but I haven't autocrossed it or anything but parking seems no different than before. I don't have any AP to log anything but I was curious if anyone with a 2010 might want to try the SWAS disable and the DSC showing off to see if there were any additional changes in the way their cars drove? Again, this is specific to the 2010s. |
you lost me at blow off valve |
I have a 2011. I unplugged swas. The powersteering coming in and out on the autocross course was horrible. It would kick in mid corner and made the car feel unpredictable. I will try holding the button down while turning the car on, that would be handy if it actually works |
I hold the button down while starting the car and the DSC will flash once and I stop pressing the button when it flashes (if that helps) |
Check a fuse? |

The loss of powersteering is avoidable/manageable if you keep your revs up. I still will have the steering go heavy at times during autox but if done right it is brief and has no ill effects. |

On similar note, does the ECU in the 2013 differ from the older models? I ask because what is it that is really driving the ability to disable the SWAS in the 2013 versus older? I guess I'm not willing to replace a perfectly good ECU with a 2013 to try it out. Are there any brave souls out there that have already taken this approach instead of the disconnect switch or unplug method? I know we have mentioned looking for a way to trick the system via a resistor or hope that COBB releases a software fix that could modify this vehicle reaction. |
Did anyone try this way of disabling? I have to wait until Monday until I try it, but I was curious of impressions or if this way doesn't actually work on the older Gen2s. |
Its been awhile since ive been on here but I still autocross the car here in NC. The heavy steering ive just gotten used to it. Ive never tried holding the button down or anything, id rather have all driver aids off. Ive had my swas disconnected for 4 years lol. Also, I think i read somewhere that the newer gen 2 cars could disable by holding dsc down. Not sure though |
The difference here is you CANNOT disable DSC once the engine is started if you have the SWAS cable disconnected. However, if you hold the button down while starting the car, the DSC will blink once and you release the button and now DSC is off as well (according to the lights on the dash anyway). I definitely enjoy driving the car better with the heavier steering - it feels more connected to the road. |
I think this has been covered on another swas thread where comparisons were being done between model years. Edit: Tried to look real quick on my lunch break, but I couldn't find it. There's a discrepancy between the early and later pu, and it's all outlined on how to shut it off in each model. If I find it I'll post the link. |
