(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score Impressions of mod....both my cats are in place, stock downpipe as well. Only thing changed is the resonator is removed. Car is 100 percent stock other than that. The sound difference is extremely minimal at best. Im hoping that when I go to a race pipe I'll get some increased sound from the combo, but for those looking to increase exhaust sound on the cheap I will have to say that the single resonator delete on the 2011 Genpu will NOT get whatever sound you are looking for, it will continue to give you stock like sound. (Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score If you want to do this mod to gain exhaust sound, and this is the only thing you will do to your exhaust....I would say don't do it. The racepipe may change things up, I will have to wait and see how the 2 mods combine together later after I figure out what my options for race pipes are. I need to find who makes downpipes AND racepipes...where I can do the mods one at a time. I would do a racepipe now, but I won't touch a downpipe until I upgrade the fuel pump. Are racepipes for the gen1 and gen2 the exact same or not? OBX sells one for like $80 but its listed as a gen 1. The authorized vendors told me I can try it out and if it works great, if not return it...but I don't have time to "try the fitment out" and just cross my fingers.

(and even if this is considered a "ricey mod" the mod did almost nothing so the rice is hidden haha) I come from domestic supercharged custom built v-8 mustangs running 10's...this is my daily driver and first 4cyl car in my life. I want to get a racepipe, I plan on it, just not sure of my options. I am not sure because I want a racepipe that I can later add a Downpipe with that has a cat. Im not sure what the options are for that setup. Some companies offer it as a one piece downpipe (not what I want) some piece offer separate downpipe/racepipes for good prices, but no cat on the dp, and yet some companies offer downpipes/racepipes listed as Gen1 cars...not gen 2, so I need assistance in this area for product fitment. As for doing the mod myself, I have a welder...but if I would try to weld the top of the pipe that close to the floor I would have 100% burned a hole into the interior of my car. At the end of the day, the mod is done, and is NOT worth the time or money. "REAL" mods are already on order.

| Not Ranked : 0 score Not even worth messing with the exhaust until you fix the downpipe and cats. Not to mention the stock exhaust note on the Gen2 is actually pretty decent for being stock compared to a lot of other cars.

(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score I wasn't trying to "cheap out" I was simply removing a piece of hardware (resonator) from my car that was 100% not needed. I replaced it with a superior piece...the 2.5" pipe. Did I get the result I was looking for....nope....was I suprised at the result...nope. I posted on here to tell others that for the gen2 the mod isn't going to get you any real change in sound, and moreso than that, the story about the mod and the shop I found comical and wanted to share :-) I read through a ton of resonator delete threads on the gen1 cars so I figured since my "real mods" are in the mail, and its Saturday and i'm bored, i'll give this a try. And still, i'm thinking once the race pipe is on the combination of the 2 pieces being removed might actually give me an exhaust tone i'm happy with. We shall see!!!

(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score Ok, I found a company that makes the 2 pieces I'm looking at...catted downpipe and separate test pipe. Ultimate Racing is the company. I just did a search and have also found that this company had an original design with the o2 bung in a bad spot that made the CEL trigger....and later they had a revised design that put the bung in the exhaust stream on the 3" pipe. So this should work for me. I don't know much about this company other than what I just read on this forum and their website, but I like their dyno graphs...the graph shows that the peak HP with their test pipe is only 1.5hp more than stock...it then shows that below max the gain is at times up to 10hp....the point being they aren't saying the pipe adds 10hp above and beyond what you have, just that it adds horsepower and at some points in the curve up to 10hp greater than stock.....I guess i'm saying I like that they aren't trying to market the pipe based on a peak horsepower number....anyway, this thread has gotten off topic (my fault). Once i get a full catless dp it will ve a complete straight pipe turbo back. Its loud as hell now and sounds mean as shit boosting but thats what i like. There is a small difference in tone and loudness (it sounds a little deeper), but it probably isn't worth the 50 or so dollars it cost. As for the place I got it done, I thankfully did not have any of the problems the OP had, or other horror stories I have read about. |
