2011 Deleted Resonator...WOW

So I wanted to delete my resonator on my 2011 to gain some additional sound...that was the plan. I take it to the shop and they say ok $65 because we have to take off the plate that connects the frame to get to the resonator and use 2.5" pipe....i'm like really 8 bolts increase the price...whatever. I wanted it done so I agreed. I wait 20 minutes and the car is lowering on the rack. They start it and rev it up...um did I ask you to rev out my engine???...again whatever. I say ok thank but can you lift the car so I can see the work and the welds, and they say sure. They raise the car and the welds look great...nice job...then I look at the pipe. It looks smaller than my factory pipe except for the ends which are 2.5" flared. I say hmmm, that appears to be 2.25" pipe....the exhaust guy says noooooo its 2.5". He looks at the part number on the pipe and guess what, 2.25 fucking inches....total idiots. I reply to this saying this is not going to do, I am not going to have 2 different pipe diameters disrupting my flow path because you failed to follow instructions. Take it off and start again. So the idiots do it all over again and I wait more. At the end of the ordeal the resonator is off and the 2.5" is on...but holy shit how hard is it to follow instructions.

Impressions of mod....both my cats are in place, stock downpipe as well. Only thing changed is the resonator is removed. Car is 100 percent stock other than that. The sound difference is extremely minimal at best. Im hoping that when I go to a race pipe I'll get some increased sound from the combo, but for those looking to increase exhaust sound on the cheap I will have to say that the single resonator delete on the 2011 Genpu will NOT get whatever sound you are looking for, it will continue to give you stock like sound. If you want to do this mod to gain exhaust sound, and this is the only thing you will do to your exhaust....I would say don't do it. The racepipe may change things up, I will have to wait and see how the 2 mods combine together later after I figure out what my options for race pipes are. I need to find who makes downpipes AND racepipes...where I can do the mods one at a time. I would do a racepipe now, but I won't touch a downpipe until I upgrade the fuel pump. Are racepipes for the gen1 and gen2 the exact same or not? OBX sells one for like $80 but its listed as a gen 1. The authorized vendors told me I can try it out and if it works great, if not return it...but I don't have time to "try the fitment out" and just cross my fingers.

Sounds ricey to go through all that just for sound. For $100 you could have bought a test pipe, done the mod yourself, and actually got some real gains.

hmmmmmmm......i have my resonator removed but also my exhaust cut off and replaced with straight pipe and a test pipe....sounds like a beast now

Ricey, I am anything but ricey. (and even if this is considered a "ricey mod" the mod did almost nothing so the rice is hidden haha) I come from domestic supercharged custom built v-8 mustangs running 10's...this is my daily driver and first 4cyl car in my life. I want to get a racepipe, I plan on it, just not sure of my options. I am not sure because I want a racepipe that I can later add a Downpipe with that has a cat. Im not sure what the options are for that setup. Some companies offer it as a one piece downpipe (not what I want) some piece offer separate downpipe/racepipes for good prices, but no cat on the dp, and yet some companies offer downpipes/racepipes listed as Gen1 cars...not gen 2, so I need assistance in this area for product fitment. As for doing the mod myself, I have a welder...but if I would try to weld the top of the pipe that close to the floor I would have 100% burned a hole into the interior of my car.

At the end of the day, the mod is done, and is NOT worth the time or money. "REAL" mods are already on order.

Not even worth messing with the exhaust until you fix the downpipe and cats. Not to mention the stock exhaust note on the Gen2 is actually pretty decent for being stock compared to a lot of other cars.

Yes corksport has them separate but they don't offer a carted dp as far as I could see.

But even if I did what you all did who sells a catted dp that would work for later? Cpe is one piece. Cnt is one piece. ATP is non catted. Corksport is non catted.

I payed like 50 for my exhaust tip but i had it as an single exit exhaust! Its loud as shit and im happy with it. I always get compliments on it after i race someone!

I wasn't trying to "cheap out" I was simply removing a piece of hardware (resonator) from my car that was 100% not needed. I replaced it with a superior piece...the 2.5" pipe. Did I get the result I was looking for....nope....was I suprised at the result...nope. I posted on here to tell others that for the gen2 the mod isn't going to get you any real change in sound, and moreso than that, the story about the mod and the shop I found comical and wanted to share :-) I read through a ton of resonator delete threads on the gen1 cars so I figured since my "real mods" are in the mail, and its Saturday and i'm bored, i'll give this a try. And still, i'm thinking once the race pipe is on the combination of the 2 pieces being removed might actually give me an exhaust tone i'm happy with. We shall see!!!

Ok, I found a company that makes the 2 pieces I'm looking at...catted downpipe and separate test pipe. Ultimate Racing is the company. I just did a search and have also found that this company had an original design with the o2 bung in a bad spot that made the CEL trigger....and later they had a revised design that put the bung in the exhaust stream on the 3" pipe. So this should work for me. I don't know much about this company other than what I just read on this forum and their website, but I like their dyno graphs...the graph shows that the peak HP with their test pipe is only 1.5hp more than stock...it then shows that below max the gain is at times up to 10hp....the point being they aren't saying the pipe adds 10hp above and beyond what you have, just that it adds horsepower and at some points in the curve up to 10hp greater than stock.....I guess i'm saying I like that they aren't trying to market the pipe based on a peak horsepower number....anyway, this thread has gotten off topic (my fault). Im actually glad you did this. I have been considering this for a while, but have been leaning more towards straight pipe all the way back.

To answer your question earlier, race pipe is the same between gen1 and gen2

Yeah going to put on a UR test pipe and downpipe on to my corksport cbe when I have a AP and the CPE fuel pump UR's products look great plus corksport's dp throws a CEL

Go look for my thread on this from like a year ago. There is a video of the res delete + test pipe. It makes a huge difference to have the test pipe.

Maybe its better driving...but I'd have to be outside listening. As far as reving the motor up and being outside of the car....the difference is miniscule on my car, imho.

I am wondering on what you guys do exactly when you say you straight pipe your exhaust. Like after the first cat you just put straight pipes all the way? Just trying to clear things up cause I don't want to spend the money on an exhaust system ATM and if this is an option it sounds like a good idea.

I have pics i just gotta post up later. Straight pipe for me is straight pipe from the testpipe back. Once i get a full catless dp it will ve a complete straight pipe turbo back. Its loud as hell now and sounds mean as shit boosting but thats what i like. Something i can piss of muscle car guys with and just FFS all the time.

I too have gotten the res delete on my 2011 and I was admittedly a little disappointed as well. There is a small difference in tone and loudness (it sounds a little deeper), but it probably isn't worth the 50 or so dollars it cost.

As for the place I got it done, I thankfully did not have any of the problems the OP had, or other horror stories I have read about.
