Default 2012 Speed 3 gas mileage?

What should the real expectations be?

I'm currently getting between 18-19 miles per gallon. My driving is 75% short local trips and 25% highway. The car has about 1500 miles so far, with no mods.

Better than that.

I'm more of a 60/40 split highway/city driving but considering how much traffic I hit on the way home it's probably closer to 50/50.

Either way, I get 25mpg on average. And I still get on it everyday.

You're doing something wrong.

Stock tune runs really rich. It could be the fuel. It seems like my avg mpg used to fluctuate a lot when mine was stock.

All the more reason to get a tune! Even ots maps can get you better mpg.

Other than that, no clue.

I think we get particularly bad fuel mileage in stop-n-go traffic, but more importantly I get pissed off and my smiles per gallon go way down.

Between waiting for the car to warm up to boost, and then heat soaking the top mount shortly after, city driving blows donkey cock. I probably wouldn't own the MS3 if I lived in a major city.

the car reads an average of 20 to 24 with my mostly city driving and around 30 on the highway. In reality when I calculate by hand I get around 18 for my day to day ( lots of lights, traffic and I like to get on it when I can) and around 27-28 for highway trips. I'm also running 33%E along with EGR delete so that will hurt my MPG a little bit.

Around 21 per tank.

On a recent long trip, I got 28mpg hand calculated with a bike rack. Not bad considering I was boosting around slower cars.

I drive about 80% City and 20% Freeway. and 18 to 19 is about right.

You can get better mileage by adjusting your driving habits or taking routes with less traffic or stops. Accelerating slowly and keeping your RPM's below 3000 will help. When you are cruising on the freeway, stay around 65 mph.

Now if I am beating on the car or riding in the canyons, my mileage goes all to hell.

I didn't consider gas mileage when I bought this car. If I did, I would've bought a Prius.

I get about 23-25 with 60% city/short distance and 40% highway. Intake and AP will definitely help a bit but personal driving habits is what affects it the most.

I average 24+ all city. My commute does include a 7 mile highway blast, but that's insignificant compared to the 300 miles per week that I drive.

Well, maybe your more fortunate to not care about MPG's. Some of us use our car as daily drivers, and fun cars. And most of us have serious bills to pay on top of that.

80-20 and average about 20.. im sure a pro-tune will fix that.

I got 26.1 on my last tank. 75% highway 25% city
going into full boost rarely (aside from a 70-115 run on the interstate) and cruise set around 75 on the highway. Try shifting between 2750-3k when in the city. Helps a ton!

You're doing something wrong.

I don't think that you're necessarily doing something wrong.. Everyone drives differently. I do about 75% short/25% highway like you and my fuel computer averages 21.5-22 (I reset every tank). In reality however, when doing the math at the pump, the real numbers are closer to 18.5 to 19.5. For reference, I have no mods, and I would consider myself a 'spirited driver'. I like to zip around, but I wouldn't exactly say I spank it..

Afterthought: you only have 1500 miles on the car, your numbers have a good chance of climbing a little for 2 reasons. First being that you are new to the car, you are pushing the limits more than you normally would as you are still learning its capabilities. That may settle down after awhile. Second (now someone correct me if i'm way off the mark here. it is more of a hypothesis), the car's fuel management will actually learn your driving habits over a period of time and things could also 'level out'.

It's all about the type of driving you're doing and your habits. I use to drive to Sherman Oaks for work which was about 75% highway and 25% the mother of all cluster fucks, total trip was about 25 miles. I usually got 23.5 mpg with spirited driving. Now that I'm working close to home it's 100% city so I get 19 mpg because I have the terrible habit of mashing the gas.

Road trips are a different story I usually see about 28-29 mpg.

Mine is about 21 mpg (self-calculated) with 60% city, 40% highway driving. I am on stock tune with no power mods, 91 octane gas. Computer shows 24.9, but that's bs.

You'll probably see gas mileage go up a bit as the car gets broken in good. Bought my Speed used, so I don't know about how long it takes to fully break in, but my Skyactiv 3 started out averaging around 32 mpg in mixed driving and is now up to 35 or 36 in the same driving. Intake and tune will help a lot as well.

I think they might have just switched to a winter fuel mix also because I was getting 27-28 average on the dash and now I'm down to 25.5ish with no change in driving.

The car runs rich under boost, but it runs close to stoich under light loads. Staying out of boost will help your mileage a lot.

I drive 80 miles round trip from home to work and back again since July, about 90% of that is highway with the cruise control set ~70mph. As of today my avg is 29.7mpg and 48mph. I've been driving like a grandma since I got pulled over 3 days after I moved and the cop was cool enough to give me a warning, even though I was well above handcuffs and license revoked speeds, so I've repaid his kindness by not being in as much of a hurry. Before moving I was ~25 mpg and 35mph.

I'm averaging around 22-23 mpg with a mix of 60% city, 40% highway driving. The MPG readout states 25 mpg typically. Staying out of boost at all costs is the key to decent mileage, though with the tiny highway onramps around this area, there's no way to avoid at least some boost on a given drive in order to avoid getting rear ended during a merge. MPG in vacuum is as good or better than the regular 3 I used to have.

I don't understand the 'who gives a shit about MPG' comments. If money for fuel is no object, why aren't you driving a GT-R instead of a $20,000 hot hatch? Fuel is a huge factor in the overall costs of car ownership.

Um...a GTR cost close to $100,000. I spend probably less than a hundred dollars more per year on fuel than someone who "cares about gas mileage". My point was that if you care so much about saving money on fuel, why buy a Speed 3? I just drive the way I want to drive and deal with whatever mileage I get, bottom line.

I didn't buy a Speed 3 to "stay out of boost". That's gay.

Obviously if MPG at all costs were the overriding factor, we wouldn't even be driving these cars, but if you have various bills to pay and life obligations to fulfill - and that's most of us I would think - it IS a factor. I did plenty of time in the V8 F-body world back in the 90s (yeah I'm an old fuck compared to some of you) when gas was dirt cheap, but those days are over for good. Do I think about MPG and fuel costs every time I go to WOT? Hell no, that would ruin the experience, but it's still something that has to be taken into consideration when I'm slogging to work and have the choice of staying in vacuum and saving $ for other shit or driving spiritedly and having a slightly lighter wallet.

Fair enough, and I get that completely. I just thought the "may as well just buy a GTR" comment to be a bit ridiculous. The extra money it costs me each year by not driving like a granny is no object to me, but that does not mean, in any way, that I have enough money to drop on a GTR. Also, this is a performance based forum, gas mileage talk is for Mazda247, haha.

I for one am more proud of the 6.7 mpg I got at my last track day than the 28.1 mpg I got on my last highway trip. I may be wrong, but I would assume most MSF'ers would agree, just sayin'.

To each his own; just saying I don't EVER think of not boosting cause I might save a little gas.

You can always increase the fuel pressure in ATR to increase MPG a tad. You will only get about +1 MPG but it's something.

I was getting 21-22mpg with 70% city and 30% highway.
After Cobb Intake and Cobb AP w/ OTS stg 1 tune, I've been hovering around 24mpg with much better throttle response! Staying below 3k helps in the city, but this thing is so fun open up in 2nd and 3rd

I can prob squeeze another 1-2mpg out if I really tried, but boost is boost.

EDIT: I calculate my MPG everytime I fill-up. The trip meter is wack...it reads 26mpg.

First off I want to thank everyone here for all your responses! They were incredibly helpful!

Just an update, had the car out today about 80% highway and logged just about 120 miles...Incredibly, I used only 3 bars of fuel, thats with being in the boost quite a bit. This car definitely likes the highway better fuel wise.

Just an update, had the car out today about 80% highway and logged just about 120 miles...Incredibly, I used only 3 bars of fuel, thats with being in the boost quite a bit. This car definitely likes the highway better fuel wise.
The fuel gauge on the PU is terrible. Once it hits the halfway mark, it starts dropping like a rock.

Anyway, I get about 25mpg commuting to work and back (25% highway,20% city, 55% slow moving traffic). On my one trip down the AC expressway I was getting 34mpg when it was 90* out. The car is much better than my turbo Volvo was.

If you can find ethanol free fuel, it'll add a couple MPGs. Gave me an additional 50-60kms/tank
