I'd also argue that a new engine will likely set tuners back for a while as they figure out how to work with it.
boosting the sky-active motors i feel like will be a big challenge, seeing as its the highest compression production motor to date at 14:0:1. our motor is 9:5:1. boost loving motors tend to be low compression.

and along with every new motor and ecu, it will be a challenge to crack and learn to tune because no one will know the limits until shit starts to break

I doubt we'll see a boosted skyactiv production, it goes against what they're trying to accomplish with that line of motors.

The only way I'd be behind a new motor for our platform would be the turbo diesel talked about before. (Yes I know, still technically skyactiv) Other than that, don't set us back in our tuning by throwing another motor out there!

I read about the turbo diesel, that would be interesting. I thought I remembered reading something about a 2 liter turbo 4...maybe I made that one up...lol. I've been lurking and thinking a while, looking for something a bit larger to replace my RX8. Looked at the Impreza WRX but don't need the AWD and I hate the interior.

I dont think so. MPS's have "MPS" written on the right hand side of the hatch.

Like this: http://www.auto-power-girl.com/high-...ps-2010-25.jpg

Also, those wheels are 17's, see the specs on the bottom of page 23. I don't think they would go down in rim size.

Lastly, single exhaust.

If they make it awd i'll sell my genwon and buy a new one! IDC if its ugly as sin! Fwd is killing me.. but it does put a lovely smile on my face and some veins in my forearms.. not to mention the lovely gas mileage..
I'll Help test out the limits of the new motor, if they even have one

AWD would be cool, I doubt we will see that though. It would add a significant amount to the cost though and of course weight. I drove a Subaru WRX and wasn't as impressed as I had always thought I would be. Other than the AWD and engine I hated nearly everything else. Steering feel was numb, suspension was too soft, and the interior looked like it belonged in a base model Kia....

the US doesn't get shit for diesels because no one knows why it would be beneficial, and they'd probably ruin it the first day when they put straight 87 in it. We also get no options for manual trannys. sucks.

cx5 will have that option in 2013 from what Ive heard so far. But your totally right. Out of all the fuels on the market diesel has one of the highest energy outputs.

It's nice to see that the 2013's will have a USB input and full size nav screen (I know not that big a deal). I hadn't thought about how difficult it would be to make a Skyactiv turbo motor...perhaps we will see a smaller 2 liter turbo at some point. Of course at the end of the day the Speed3 even in it's current form gets much better MPG than my RX8. Obviously MPG isn't my highest priority though :-)

Diesel Exhaust
I don't know if the diesel trend is going to be catching on anymore. It's now declared a carcinogen.

Wow! Very interesting, thanks for the input. I have never owned a diesel powered vehicle before, the Skyactiv D in the CX-5 would make perfect sense. Not sure how I would like it in the Speed though...

that article is bullshit. gasoline exhaust has all the same byproducts and is just as, if not more, prevalent in the daily life of most people.

Yeah, what was Mazda thinking?! The red accent stitching is good, but they should have left it at that and kept the rest black. Same goes for the door inserts. It'd be great if they got rid of all that for 2013.

And since they just had a tweak, even though its small, I dont think they'll get another one for at least another 2 years. My 2 cents.
Hey, im a little late to the party here but just wanted to say that the speed and normal 3 have very few parts in common. All exterior panels are different, their fenders are flatter vs our bulkier ones, and obviously the doors have bulkier lines to match the fenders, so on and so forth. Also my dad had a rental 2010 3 and compared to my ms3 like the headunit looked to be the same but much everything else was different. ^^^

Also, i have a feeling the main reason the gen 1 was short lived is because that happened at the time Ford sold mazdas shares back to them to avoid recieving a bail out. At that point mazda had more say in its designs, thats where all the smiley "Nagare" themes started coming from, so yes while the speed6 and gen 1 were short lived i agree, i dont think itd be to unreasonable to expect a few more years from this generation speed.

IDK man, Alcantara doesn't seem to wear that well over time. Wife's 2010 Civic has Alcantara; it's already showing visible wear and my friend's 2006 is pretty bad now.

Really? The Alcantara in my RX8 has held up quite nicely for 5+ years, I guess it just depends. I like that it keeps me from sliding around but still looks nicer than just plain cloth. I hate how they get the option for heated seats in Canada and we don't in the U.S. :/

I beg to differ. My girl owns a 2013 2.0T and my MS3 stomps on it. Granted, the GenCoupe is fun to drive and all, but its no competition to the MS3.

I don't think the stuff in the RX-8 is Alcantara. It seemed more to me like microfiber cloth or something. I had a 2005 with sport and touring packages that had the black and grey interior. I don't recall what the sticker said about the seat material, but it was definitely different material the my wife's civic has which stated Alcantara. Whatever the RX-8 came with it was the best "cloth" seat material of any car I've ever owned or been in and the seats themselves were bad ass.

Cool, now that you mention it Alcantara is a bit more coarse, I am tempted to have the seats redone if...when...I get a Speed3. We shouldn't have to wait much longer, we will probably have some certain info on the 2013's as we get closer to fall. I am tempted to go and get the 2012 CWP with tech package that's at my local dealer right now...

Go for it, you'll probably get a better deal on the 2012.

I can't imagine they'll change much for 2013 since they just did a MMC on the regular 3 and some changes to the 12 MS3. The current gen probably only has another year left before the kodo style comes out anyway.

The USB is the only thing that would be a nice to have...can't believe they waited so long to add that. GL whatever you do.

I won't argue with u there...I have a 2012 CWP with tech myself...love it. Also even if they did come out with a new model...why buy the first batch? Let them fix the bugs and issues then jump in. By that time you'll be able to trade in or sale. Just my $0.02

My local Mazda Stealership insider said that after a briefing from some corporate lackey that the Mazdaspeed vehicle lines will be discontinued beyond the Genpu MS3 as the company continues to focus solely on skyactiv vehicles; I wouldn't hold out for a Gen3. I would buy a Genpu or Gen 1 and hold onto it because that shit is going to be a collector's item someday.

If you look at Mazda's market traction with the Skyactiv 3 and CX5, it's hard to dispute that Mazda probably found a good market for themselves. I think this lends credence to what the rep said. They are going for the sporty driving + high fuel economy play.

With ford gone, next-gen 3 should be built from ground-up, probably look similar to the new 6 coming out based on this concept:

I would think they'd come out with MS version year or two later with boosted 2.0 skywhatever.

Yeah, my guess is that if anything, there'll just be minor changes like from '11 to '12... Hopefully USB... I'm also hoping (very optimistically I know) that they delete the chicken pox completely. I can of course do it myself, but it'd be nice if it came like that from the factory...

Another thought: you'd think it'd be beneficial for Mazda just to do a minor ECU reflash so that they can advertise their factory HP numbers a bit higher. I know it doesn't make a difference for us modders/tuners, but you'd think it'd help them sell more speeds if the advertised numbers were say "280hp and 300tq" ...and we know that this is totally and safely achievable with current factory hardware and really wouldn't cost Mazda any extra because all they'd be doing is reprogramming ECUs. It'd just help give them more of an edge in the face of new competition from newcomers (like the Focus ST, next gen GTI, etc.). I know it won't happen, but that's what I'D do if I ran Mazda

Anyway, I can't wait to hear, because I'll be getting my MS3 in January

That 6 concept is damn sexy. You just know they will soften the hell out of that though. I pray that the next gen 6 is true to that concept and that they do an AWD speed version. I bought my MS6 to hold me over for a few years to see how that plays out.

I am not too hopeful though... If I recall, the MS6 wasn't that good of a seller for Mazda.

I can't believe they'd dump the Speed line permanently. Maybe for a year or two until they get back on track financially, but they have always been an enthusiast brand and walking away from that to compete with the likes of Honda or Toyota would be a mistake, but who knows.

Ya, I agree... Maybe as Skyactiv continues to thrive and their skyactiv platforms are done they will have more $$$ and go back and make more speed platforms. Companies will always make what customers want. It just so happens that right now people want 50MPG in something that is reasonably fun to drive.

That seems likely to me, I could see them coming out with a new 3 design and not having a speed 3 for that model year. Then the next model year they could release the speed version.

I predict a minimum 2-3 year gap between Mazdaspeeds.
