I wonder what software does power the navs? And if they are 'disc based' nav software, will music still be playable while navigating?

I bet it will be TomTom powered like the nav in the CX-5, I don't see why they would go disc based. All modern nav systems use flash memory...i.e. SD cards.

I usually use my galaxy nexus for navi and i can play music at the same time. The music will autopilot down a bit while google maps speaks turn by turn over the music.

As ive never used a in-dash style navi i wonder if it will work this way.

If not, bluetooth gps and music will be from my phone. Music for sure. But i woukd rather use the vehicle navi to save battery on the phone

Why would they go with discs when they are currently flash based? That's like moving from DVD to VHS.

Hopefully, they will go respectable, third-party managed (TomTom, Garmin, or better yet, Google Maps) as these will offer continuous, and potentially free updates.

I find my Gnex doesn't pipe down my music enough for me to adequately hear GNav directions. My solution was to turn up the car volume to compensate lol

Supposedly we will have have a Pandora radio app also, that is so far the most intriguing thing to me. I wonder if it will be similar to the system that Mini has implemented...hmn...

Just test drove my first speed 3 today (2012 CWP w/ tech). Holy crap these cars are fun! Just gotta wait 7 more months and I can finally get my '13. This is killing me now that I really know what I'm missing out on. That big touchscreen will be a huge plus for me.

I don't know why all you guys are so pessimistic about a new Speed 3. I bet we'll see a new Speed3 when the new Mazda3 comes out, I'm guessing probably in the 2015 model year.
I know you guys mentioned that the high compression ratios of the Skyactiv engines would make it difficult to turbocharge them, but it has been pretty widely reported that the next MX-5 will have turbocharged Skyactiv motor; 2014 Mazda Miata with SkyActiv Technology Pictures and News on RoadandTrack.com.

Mazda has also said that they're not working on a new V6, it seems to me that their only option would be to turbocharge the skyactiv 2.0L especially for the upper trim levels of the Mazda6 and for the CX-9. It would make sense to me that they would also use that engine in a new MazdaSpeed 3.

The way I see it, their future engine lineup would look like this:
Mazda6:
2.5L Skyactiv (200HP)
2.0L Skyactiv Turbo (260HP)

Mazda3:
2.0L Skyactiv (160HP)
2.5L Skyactiv (200HP)
2.0L Skyactiv Turbo (260HP)

The 2.0 turbo seems right...I too still believe we will see a Skyactiv turbo. I would be surprised if we see a 2.5L skyactiv though.

I really think the DISI is going to be the engine of choice the mazdaspeed lineup for the foreseeable future.

I don't see Mazda investing all this money into a new SkyActiv engine design just to produce the same HP/TQ they already have accomplished with the current motor. They could probably just continue to tweak the current DISI for better MPG and re-brand it as a "SkyActiv" engine.

Like I mentioned in my post, Mazda is going to have to have a more powerful engine for the Mazda6 to compete with the V6 Camry and Accord. I'm betting that they'll turbocharge the skyactiv 2.0L.

As far as the engine making the same power as the current DISI, keep in mind that Mazda has said that all new models will weigh about 220 lbs less than the cars that they replace. So, even if the car makes about the same power, it'll be faster and handle much better.

It would take too much effort to make the DISI as fuel efficient as a Skyactiv turbo. For example, the Skyactiv motor actually switches between Miller cycle and conventional operation. The new engine is much more advanced than the MZR.

I really hope they do use a Skyactiv Turbo in the next MS3, I'm tired of the peaky power band of the current car. I'm hoping that they switch over to a twin-scroll turbo.

That's going to be expensive! Maybe someone will install an aftermarket system and sell you their oem one.

There were rumors that the next mazda rotary powered car (16x engine) might use an electric powered turbo. That could be interesting in the speed also, it would certainly make the power delivery more linear.

You have a chance to have a good performing car, brand new, with all the fixings. GREAT STORAGE SPACE, turbo charged, with great reliability aslong as maintained. Want more power? A couple thousand and you'll be knocking on the doors of 350-400HP.

OR

You have the choice of an Audi that while nice is not reliable and is SUPER expensive in repair bills. Is known by edmunds for "Four-cylinder power in a six-cylinder segment", has storage concerns and is still FWD.

OR

You can can buy an older BMW, where you may not get exactly what you want. Still have shitty storage space and high repair bills, Its 4 years old and is a power mobile. Props for RWD though.

I've driven the a4 awd and its a sweet machine. Torque is available way down low and stays with you throughout the rpm range. If you chip them, then you got yourself a seriously fun car, but still wont touch the track car feel of the ms3.

Ms3> other choices

Skip the Bimmer, the audi is a solid choice, but mods are much more expensive. If youre looking for a car to mod the MS3 is the way to go.

I was thinking the same thing, I wouldn't buy a German car unless it was new. Crazy repair bills...

I wish Mazda would announce it already if they have a 2013 speed 3 coming. Subaru announced back in 2011 for a 2013 brz sti and im wondering why some cant? Im at the verge of buying one but it helps to plan financially if dates could be estimated. Here we are almost sept and still no word about a 2013 speed 3. Nothing official atleast for united states. Correct me if im wrong please

They might delay they announcement until stock of the 2012 MS3 is getting low. Dont want to have a bunch of 2012 models out there when you announce a newer model with improvements.

What exactly are you planning for?

IF you need a car now, you need a car now. Go buy one. There are TONS of incentives on a 2012 and you can walk out of a dealership with one in hand for 21000.

If you want to wait and you "need" the nav/head unit then you're going to be paying MSRP. It is that simple.

The cars will come when the cars come.
