the dealerships in my neighborhood pooled together and built a test drive track, so that's where i drove all the cars... i thought that gave me a pretty even comparison of each car's handling ability. i drifted sideways in the ST going around a turn that the MS3 handled just fine.

oh, i also don't like the 5 speed in the WRX.

You always have to read these articles with a grain of salt. Motortrend (don't get me wrong, I do like reading motortrend articles) once had a performance comparison of the 2nd Gen MS3 vs a GTI... and they showed the GTI won in 0-60 time and track lap times... yes, it was a GTI, not even an R32.

I've driven all three vehicles and my take:

The WRX is a solid performance car in the stock form. It lacks considerably on interior comforts though and is considerably more money than a 2nd Gen MS3.

The Focus ST lacks the torque that the WRX and MS3 has, but has great handling and an interior that is a step above the MS3 (which isn't lacking for the price range).

The MS3 has great torque, has a great interior, the handling is alright for a stock FWD, but isn't as precise as the Focus ST.

Overall all three are great cars IMO for their value. Each offers a little something different. Personally I'll take the lower price, interior comforts and torque that the MS3 offers.

I thought the ST had terrible lag. The cheapest one for sale anywhere near me was $27k. I bought my "unloaded" Speed that stickered for $24995 thousands less, kind of hard to compare them.

If you go to the Cobb dyno database website and look at the dyno for a stock ST, the power curve looks pretty good, doesn't feel laggy either when you drive it:

After reading this review, i went ahead and watched the head to head Motortrend video of just the MS3 and the Focus ST.

I must say, the fact that the video was 100% completely ford biased, made me not even take the video seriously anymore.

The torque-steer test was the best. I swear ive never seen someone laugh so hard like a faggot in my life.

When the editor was in the seat with Randy Pobst, you could just see and hear him constantly selling the Focus to him the entire time. Using Jedi mind tricks and shit.

God both cars are great, but why so much hate towards the Ms3 man.
Seemed like they drove the focus first, and after learning how the car handled, they tested out the MS3 and tried to drive it like the focus. Only to end up complaing.

Whatever, opinions are like assholes, everyone has one.

I agree the WRX is less refined, and personally i do not like how the focus looks. I will take my speed. Had it 6 days, no mods (yet) and have zero regrets !

A very biased review indeed.

I test drove the wrx before purchasing the MS3. I couldn't tolerate the wrx. It was too noisy and the 5 speed was a turn off.

Motortrend is trying their best to sell the ford and so is road and track.

Really! how much is Ford paying these guys?

The speed3 is not perfect. Then again, I've yet to find a perfect car.

The ST is just terrible looking. And yet, people ragged on the 2nd gen so much for the smile. Regardless, I'd buy the MS3 or the WRX, unless I was able to buy an STI and then scratch this review it's pointless. They should have compared the GTI rather than the WRX.

And, for the record the 3 has a very noisy interior.

When FREEK tuned my MS3 I got no bullshit 38 MPG on the highway and 24 city.
