70% tint in NYState Hey All I live in NYState where the legal tint limit is only 70%. Whack, but I still kinda wanna get it done. Id love to get it darker but dont wanna get pulled over for some bullshit like that. Anyways, was wondering if anyone had 70% on their current or former car(s) and if it was worth it to even spend the $100-$200 to get it done. Any advice and/or pictures would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance |
damn, some factory cares come with like 35-40% tint on the back windows..i wouldn't even waste the money |
Thanks, anyone else offer their opinions? pictures? |
I don't think I'd waste my money. 50% is legal here in Ohio, and I don't even think that is worth it... |
I'm almost positive front windows have some tint from the factory so you wouldn't be able to do much and be legal. You can tint the rear windows as dark as you want though just not the driver and passenger windows. I have the small side and rear windows done and every time i get pulled over they make me roll the window up to see if it's tinted. |
I ran 20% for the whole time I lived up there and never had an issue. It's not a moving violation, so if you really want dark tint just be prepared for a possible ticket. Last time I checked it was about $75 for a tint ticket in NY. |
This car has 50% tint. Not worth it if you ask me... http://tintguy.com/images/new%2050%2...in%20Ohio).jpg |
I've had 50% tint in front side windows before. It doesn't look like much but it does help with glare in the mirrors and direct sunlight. With that said 50% is barely adequate and I definitely wouldn't waste the money on 70%. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
@donkeyballs mine has no tint on front and the law in NY is 70% max all the way around. @BLK MS3 That's awesome you never got caught, I'm just not willing to risk it I dont think. Even though I really think it ties the MS3 together great @kabobulate Thanks for the picture. Definitely looks weak, and take out 20% more and I can see it being really whack. It's surprising though because if that is 50%, I have seen 35% that looks MUCH darker and that's only 15% difference. Yea so I'm torn cause like I said, the genpu, more than other cars, really looks great/incomplete without tints, IMO. But at the same time 70% seems pretty damn useless. I do work for a government agency and usually can get out of tickets by flashing my ID and PBA cards so getting out of a tint ticket would probably be easy, but again just not sure I wanna take the risk/deal with the hassle. Anyways thanks.for the input guys. If anyone else has any.more.opinions or some more pictures that would still be helpful. Have a great weekend everyone I'm actually getting a brand new '12 speed with zero miles after I bought one with after 5k miles couldn't be fixed. See my other thread I made called engine light/ dealership issues if you want the full story but anyways I might try to get them to throw in a free tint job for all the Damn hassle they have put me through the past month and a half ( 5 Seperate visits to the dealership in under 3 weeks/ driving a loaner car for the past 2 weeks) |
Factory windows are already 70% so no tint is legal in nys unless it comes with it. Ie 20% on suv and trucks. You shouldn't get pulled over much I have 3m 35% which looks much darker and on my previous car I had 5%. If you went with a 35% you should be fine. My 5% never got me pulled over and actually saved me from a speeding ticket so I got a fix it instead. |
@mingenyx are you absolutely sure? my windows literally are clear, no tint whatsoever. |
My 2008.5 MGM came with 35% all around except for the windshield of course. The 35% would set your white MS3 off nice....risk the ticket imo. Coming from a fellow NY’er…the 5-0 will just give you a warning or fix it ticket, and that if they already got you pulled over for something else. |
@leon87 the new car i got is actually silver. i wasnt that impressed with the white and the rich ass black ass exhaust made the back dirty 24/7. but are you saying they cant pull you over for just tints, they can only give you a ticket for it if they already have you pulled over for something else? and your 35% tint must have been a dealer option because mine dont come with any tint whatsoever |

the law only applies to driver and passenger window. the rest of the windows can be whatever, as long as you can see out, and nothing is allowed on the windshield. some people go lighter on the fronts and darker in the back, which i think looks like shit. 35% all around is about as dark as i would go, anything darker is asking for attention. i have 20% all around, and while it looks cool on the outside, its downright dangerous at night on poorly lit streets. |
id say for 70% dont even waste your money. i used to have 5% (limo all the way around) 35% on front windshield and extended glare strip in vegas and never got pulled over, drove to salt lake (8 hr drive) got pulled over 5 times all for tint, good thing they couldnt ticket me with nevada plates. Its also 115-120* in summer. tis was super dark http://a6.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...8_731963_n.jpg |
