AC quit working Last night I was driving, AC on...all well. This morning, I start the car, turn on AC, and nothing but hot air. I check vaccum gauge and notice vaccum not dropping when AC switched on....ie compressor not turning on. I go under hood, have the wife hit the AC button, and sure as shit compressor isn't coming on. I checked the 3 fuses listed in the manual and they were good. What could cause the compressor not to kick on? Car has 24k miles on it. I have a FMIC and one pipe touches about 2 inches of the freon line, but I but heat shield tape around it, and I don't see how that could cause the compressor to not kick on after it has been working fine. I took the car to dealership and the mechanic was talking shit to another friend who brought their car their saying blah blah people that mod their cars like this shouldn't get warranty coverage blah blah the intercooler is touching the freon line thats why the compressor isn't working. Thanks yall. |
You have a leak from the rubbing. Compressor has a lock out if there isn't enough pressure in the system. |
That is a possibility I guess, although if what you say turns out to be correct, that sucks as I doubt they will warranty that grr. I was unaware of the compressor lockout. Thanks for that info. |
Dk what to suggest man that was pretty dick of the tech to say something like that, I can promise you this will not be cheap fix. Maybe stock out and take it to another dealership and see if they will cover this. |
Him part out? lol My car just starting smoking a lil I think, so I feel your pain.. It starting smoking at idle when we got to the park, but afterwards I haven't noticed the smoke or smell. I have to keep my eye out on it. Either way, it sucks. Maybe it will just start working out of know where, like how my turbo stopped smoking?lol |
Worst case scenario is that its the line like the tech said...$86 ($104 MSRP) for the AC return line from Online Mazda Parts if the dealership tries to go nuts with labor fees for changing a hose. Best case scenario its not the return line and is some faulty componets ie warranty work :) |
@Black Metal You called it. The intercooler pipe hitting the line did rub a hole like you said. Mazda charged me $52 to diagnose...not bad. I got the new hose and o rings for $120 and I'll install myself, then Mazda will refil freon/compressor oil for $90. A bit of a PITA but nothing too major. Thanks for the help yall. |
They use aluminum lines and any contact will wear through them really quick. |
I have some neoprene tubing, 1", that I am going to slip over the new line prior to install. Neoprene handles heat pretty well, up to almost 400 degrees, which is more than the hot pipe on the intercooler will ever see, so this should help things too. |
@mrmonk7663; How did it go replacing the line yourself? I am in the same situation but cannot find any information on it. p.s. reviving old thread |
Replacing the line myself was easy...only a couple of bolts, and I did it in the street in short time. Then I took it to mazda and had them charge the system. |
