Accidentaly shifted into the wrong gear So I was driving home on a relatively empty highway with my 2 best friends in the car and this g35 decided to instigate shit by doing a small fly by and getting in front of me. He went behind me and tried to do it again but this time I shifted down into second at 40 and pulled hard on him all the way to 100 and he backed off. I went to throw it in neutral and since my gear tune for the bottom gears are large I accidentally threw it into third. I have the Cobb ap ots tune so it went up to 7k rpms for literally 1.5 seconds and I panicked and threw it into neutral. It has been around an hour now and it has been running normal buy I am worried something will happen. I only have 38k and a healthy motor so does anyone know if I'll be okay? It's happened a couple times to me during frenzied 4-5 shifts. Pretty sure you'll be ok. |

Hopefully. It was the first time something like that happened since I got my car a little over a month ago. It had my adrenaline pumping and I wasn't able to think properly. Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk |

Getting some kind of short shifter solution will really help if you wanna be able to manhandle your car, the stock shifter, as it comes especially, isn't exactly the most precise piece of equipment. |

I've tried jumping from 6th to 4th to get through lights. I've gotten locked out of 4th and slid into 2nd a few times. Never fully engaged the clutch but at 60 (and slowing) don't think it would hurt too badly. Anymore I just try to anticipate the lights a little better and downshift ahead of time. 113k on my transmission and clutch by the way, with no issues. |

wait...mazdaspeeds are manuals? and WTF with your screen name. Did you punch your keyboard when you picked it? Looks like you grabbed a fistful of consonants playing Scrabble. |

5th gear in WOT doesn't exist in my car I can only go 3-4-3, you'll be fine. |
Done it a bunch of times before jbr solid shifter bushings. Still fine. |

Put it in 5th at 2k rpm and gradually accelerate ... Not fast or wot just enough to put a good load on the motor .... If u don't hear anything or feel vibes u are fine . |

Some people shift at 7k rpms but mine didn't go past that. Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk |

If it was going to give up the ghost it would have done it already .... Count your lucky stars and I guess maybe smoke weed at home after driving not b4 ? Lol Shit happens I've done it at low speeds in all cars |

Your shits fine. Just be careful since you just learned stick. It happened to me in my honda a couple times when I first learned. |

Hitting rev limiter is a little different though. The ECU shuts down your motor and there is basically no load being put on it then (Yes, very simplified). Down shifting too hard mechanically forces your motor to run at what ever speed no matter what, with all the engine braking forces happening. |

o no, lol, i'm fine, it's only a part of my last name ;) @ O.P; i can understand you feel guilty about what happend, but like others said, if it didn't crack at that moment, it won't crack on you now. you'll be fine. Just don't try to do it again :D |

Also, if you've just learned how to drive a stick, you need to get your shit together and stop driving like an ass-hat. As you've just discovered, it's much easier to fuck something up when you don't know what you're doing yet, and you do what most pig-headed dipshits do and try to force shit. Calm down, you're going to kill someone. |
