Default Almost ran out of gas..

Because dumbass mofos don't know how to drive in the rain I had to sit in traffic as my car's fuel light comes on. By the time I got to the gas station the car said I only had 3 miles left. Don't want that to happen again. Come on what if another speed pulled up next to me. My dumbass would of had to say sorry I am almost out of gas and if we race I wouldn't make it to the station.

I got lost and couldn't find a station before and I pulled in as it flipped to zero...that was a scary fucking day. Needless to say, now I never let my car go below a 1/4 tank!

when you filled up how much did it take? i'm pretty sure there is a reserve after it gets to 0 miles, because the most i've put in my car was 13.5 gallons, and there was only 10 miles left...our tanks are 15.9 gallons

Hahaha "0" means minimum of 15 more miles to go, depending on how you drive.

Agree, just because the computer says zero left, you still have 15-20 miles to go.

This happened to me the other day. I didnt want to settle for no name gas, so I ran with the light on for about 15-20 miles and the range said 4 miles left. When I finally found a gas station the car only took 12.1 gallons, so I still had about 2 gallons left in the tank.

Yeah the dealer told me when I bought the car that you had 2 additional gallons after your last line is gone. So basically about 40 miles more. But I wouldn't push it more than 20

My car will say 0-10 miles left, and still has about 2 gallons left, so I'd say they were right adlpb.

I ran out once after driving 25-30 miles with the light on.
It was a late night and forgot to stop for gas.

MS6 doesn't have a miles to empty display.

That's because with AWD, our mileage sucks so fucking bad we don't WANT to know that information.

they program the gas gauge for stupid women lol

I've had mine say 0 miles for 20-25 miles, because I was going over a remote mountain range where I had no choice. luckily I was able to coast most of the way down. (As long as you leave the clutch engaged in gear, the fuel injectors are closed and basically the engine keeps from the momentum of the car, the mountain I was going down descends over 2000ft, so I had plenty of gas)

that was the most I ever filled up, put 14.5 gallons in it (we have 15.9 gal iirc)

Isnt it bad to let the gas run that low before filling up? I was told you get all the crap to settle at the bottom so it isnt necessarily good to run that low before filling up?

Thanks

This is bs because the gas gets all mixed up anyways.

I also get 27 MPG per gallon according to my car. Sadly the Gallons refilled and and the distance driven do not match the resulting MPG. Just use that as "estimates" on what is left. Don't take it to 0 unless in BFE. Less gas in tank means it is sucking up lots of sand/dirt/shit that is sitting at the bottom of the tank.

The trip computer is good to get a estimation of how many miles you have left. Other than that the clock is more useful

I have run out of gas twice in my Speed. Naturally, these things tend to happen when you're in a rush.

- The first time, I managed to coast the car into a parking lot right beside a gas station.
- The second time, I wasn't so lucky. The car ran out of gas going uphill. I managed to begin making the left turn at an intersection to get to the gas station but had to jump out and push the car the rest of the way.

Stay tuned for the next time I goof up. Haha.

i've always been told one reason not to get below 1/4 tank is that the fuel itself cools the fuel pump and running it low all the time can cause premature failure of the pump

Yeah, this is it right here. I doubt you can ever truly run a tank completely dry because engineers would have thought of that situation and have at least a couple safety measures in place.

Not sure of how our cars fuel system is designed, but part of the dont run it low on fuel advice comes from older FI care where: low fuel + a hard corner and/or + acceleration = premature fp failure or engine damage. Some even run fuel sump tanks to avoid these issues. Again this is from old knowledge of old cars, engineers may have figured this out by now so YMMV.

I normally always fill up at 1/4 tank, just got busy and forgot, plus this thing gets shitty mileage when I'm climbing the mountains around here.

Once you run out of gas once....like me, you become better at avoiding that scenario.

I ran out of gas on the way home...in the rain having just turned through a busy intersection to go up hill.

I had to leave my car scary close to the corner of the intersection when my bud picked me up to go get some gas in a jug. I thought for sure someone would have plowed into me while I was gone.

Scary and very embarrassing day for sure.

I don't understand, how does putting off filling up ever save you money? You just have to put more in when the time comes...

I've got a friend that pulls into the station and puts 10 bucks at a time in ... seriously WTF? In one big chunk or several small ones, if you're driving the same distance it doesn't make a DAMN difference!?!

it hurts the pocket less to fill up less. i know it makes no sense in the real world but in my head if i can park it with 7 miles left (hahaha thats how it is right now lol) i can delay getting gas for sure, like im doing now. just go back to driving the se-r until "i get around" to filling it up 6 gallons at a time. i know it makes no sense but a dollar in my pocket is spendable now, gas in the tank is not so i like to see that 25+ i put at a time in the bank not the tank.
