Just have to have that one lazy tech who doesn't run the check on the ECU and send it in to Mazda.

My ms3 is my dd... Not have time for it? That's your choice but for me time > money. I have a lot less money than time, and I'll put my car in the shop for a couple days if it gets me a new free turbo. I used public transportation for a couple of days.

EVERYONE thinks that dealerships are so against mods, which some are, maybe even most, but all I'm saying is call around. Don't cop out and say "all the dealerships around here". If someone isn't cool, not friendly, or can't help, say ok thank you and hang up. Call the next place. Like I said, they get paid, so they want to work on your car... Especially if its a new turbo. That's technically like 10 hours of labor, as opposed to a normal 30 min oil change or an hour brake job etc. I ended up driving an hour away from where I live, (90 minutes with traffic) and I have a dealership 5 min from my house.

I'm just here to let you know it can be easily done. So don't freak out, like I did, when I blew my turbo.

Try telling my Platoon Sergeant that. I was actually lucky that he gave me the day off to bring it in. I'm in the Army, i can't just call out of work and say "hey my turbo blew on my car and i can't come to work"

That's pretty retarded driving with a blown turbo IMO, especially since i don't think you saw that almost half a quart of oil came out my exhaust. I don't know how Maryland is but here in Colorado driving around with a blown turbo, blowing white smoke everywhere will def get you a huge fine. I was lucky that my mother n law knew a guy with his own flat bed and ended up towing me to the dealer, then from the dealer to my neighbor's shop after i got denied the warranty work.

Don't speak for everyone. As i said before, some dealerships are cool and will overlook some stuff to just get their moneys worth on the labor, just not here. 2 Mazda dealerships in Colorado Springs and only one does warranty work.

Just to put my 2 cents in...

I have 35k miles now. I modded it at 10k miles with intake/ dp/ HPFP internals/ etc. (in my signature) and have been running an e85 mix for 5k miles now. I command 25 PSI on the K04 and she is holding up just fine. Weird how these failures just seem to happen sometimes to people.

It can be a number of things. Everything from being a dumbass like me and not doing the research before installing a mod, to just having that specific turbo on that specific car go. Not all cars are gonna run exactly the same. Same thing goes for mods. Just bc one person is running 10,000+ miles on FP internals, doesn't mean all FP internals are gonna do the same. Let this be a lesson for the noobs out there. Do your research before you decide to mod your car. One reason why I help this forum out, so I can at least prevent someone from doing the same thing I did.

DISI, well put. These K04s are @ the design limit and one guy gets a good one the next gets screwed. The right way to do the power mod thing is to pull the K04 and start there. The tow thing: Well I could have called Mazda for a warranty tow but when do you think they would have gotten out to the beach in Long Island @ 2:30AM??? There aren't any roads to drive in NYC, Period. So I drive 40 miles home losing 2 quarts. Nice!

BOOSH!!!!!!!!!

Got my car back... running good again. Now- do I need a downpipe?

Anyone know what the break-in on a new turbo is? I'm guessing nothing since there isn't much to it.

And for the people talking about getting tows and stuff, I used Mazda roadside assistance- it was excellent. They had a truck at the car within 45 minutes of making the call.

My turbo seal failed at 8100 miles, I drive the car normally just mainly cruise with it, go wot maybe once when driving it and Its not my dd I only drive it weekends nice days etc. only mods I had at the time was cs Sri and tip, to me there was no real reason why it should have failed other than the fact cars are machines and things are prone to fail sometimes for no real good reason, that's why cars have warrantys. I may also note that I was running Mobil 1 at the time and its was my second service as I change it every 3k as well. Moral of the babbling story is that I have seen things break on cars that should never have in theory and things NOT break when they absolutely should have, (have been in the automotive business for about 10 years) just drive the car respectively the way it was designed and keep up with your maintaince.

When I bought my car I made that a stipulation of my purchase. I made sure that aftermarket mods were okay and as long as I don't open the block I am covered. Extended warranty was purchased as well. I'm good for 75,000 miles.

I took it easy for the first 100-150 miles when my reman K04 was installed, just to be on the safe side.

Everyone knows that Mobil 1 is a good oil, just not the best. German Castrol or Pennzoil synths are a better bet.

Why people so broke? I mean you spend thousands of dollars moding your car but as soon as something goes wrong they cry for warranty, they way I look at it if you can afford to mod a car you should be able to maintain it. If you are worried about blowing your turbo or whatever, stay stock then you can warranty whatever you want. My $.02

Since when do dealers get to choose if they want to cover warranty work? I was a Tech at VW and it was mandatory that all dealers that sold new cars HAD to do warranty work.

Yes, get a downpipe.

Break in for a turbo = nothing. People slap turbos on cars and run straight to the dyno.

Hence me! Turbo went on, moved one bay over and went crazy with it on the dyno. Dont worry about breaking it in. Just enjoy not smoking people out at traffic lights

Some turbos make it just fine. Others do not. Mine was fully bolted, meth and custom tune for thousands of miles with zero issues.

Did you do the HPFP upgrade?

I had ETS TMIC, TXS BOV, CAI & CP-E cat-back on my old MS6 with no issues.

hahahaha. Is that even a question. That was one of my very first modifications with this car. I don't take any chances.
You probably didn't need the HPFP because you didn't do an AP or DP.

I'm not smoking yet or using oil ( check every fill up , Hey takes two secs anyway ) but i was installing a corksport tip and figured I'd check the turbo and it has some scrapes on the side and some shaft play at 41k miles. it's still under warranty .You think they'd warranty that out ? even though it's not blowing smoke ? i'm gonna be taking it to sanone route 1 which is a corksport dealer and from what i hear mod friendly. My other mods are a cobb sri , cp-e hpfp , and ap stage 1 sri+tip. i change my oil at 5k all the time and use penzoil platnuim.

Galpin Mazda in Santa Clarita... I've heard a lot of bad things about Galpin, but they seemed to treat me right, and my car still works.

But, I did stock out before going in. Not sure how mod friendly they are. You broken?

Well I live near the Galpin Mazda in Van Nuys and I would never bring a car in for any kind of service there. The service manager, if you pardon my french, is a fucking Jew (No offense to the other cool Jews). I would rather not go into details but there is no way I will risk getting blackballed by taking my car there.

Not sure why pu turbos shit the bed. I just sent out my 7th payment, have almost 19k on the odo, beat the dogshit out of the car daily, started doing mods roughly 3 months ago. I do however, allow car to warm up, and if I do hard driving, I'll cruise slow home on side streets and let turbo cool for a minute before turning the car off.

Another thing guys is when these guys do replace your turbos, ask them if they are going to replace the oil feed tube and the drain tube. I have had a brand new turbo go bad after 400 miles of driving, and I saw no sludge in the oil feed tubo and so no signs of restrictions in the oil feed tube when I replaced the turbo originally. Well after 400 miles and this turbo locked up, I replaced the oil feed tube and the drain tube. What I found after dissecting the feed tube and drain tube is that a coating does start to form on the inside from the oil cooking in the tubes, so even though there may not seem to be any restrictions in the tubes ask them to replace them under warranty. And to some one who posted in the first page back in jan or so replacing turbos only pays us 4hrs under warranty and it is hard to break even, but I know that we are pretty mod friendly up to a certain point where it starts become excessive and people start abusing the system.

So just trying to save you guys some headaches and times from having to make unneeded trips to the dealer ship. Another thing if you are worried about the type of oil, and you do your own oil changes I would suggest to use mazda synthetic oil and keep all your paper work so if anything is ever asked about when where or who has been doing your oil changes.

Yeah, that's what I've heard about all Galpin dealers from multiple people, however- I was treated fairly and they fixed my car with no fuss, so?????
