Another trip to the stupid fu**in dealership!!!

So I figured I'd share my latest story from the dealer. I took my gen 2 up there yesterday for a check engine light (p0300) random misfire code. And also for the weird grinding/ whining noise that goes with the engine. Well they charged me an hour of labor per concern for the diagnosis fee. They reccomend changing the plugs for the code, no biggie. But for the grinding noise that I hear above 2 grand constant as I'm going by buildings/houses/ passing cars, they said they found a rock in between the backing plate and caliper bracket that was making the noise. I called bullshit as soon as I heard that because I could hear this noise when parked in the garage on a cold start at idle. Does anybody else experience this noise as you drive by things???? A fellow member commented on a previous post saying he had the similar noise and it turned out to be a bad bearing in the alternator pulley. So im out 225 bucks and got NO work done and have to bring my car back up there!! I hate Ralph Thayer with a passion!

Can you grab a video to help us hear the noise. Also, take one of the technicians with you on a quick drive to show them that what they claimed to be the issue didn't actually fix anything so at least you can make the case that you shouldn't have to pay for subequent work since the first time you went in didn't fix anything.

I had the other service writer go for a ride with me and he heard the noise said it sounded like the turbo spooling but I don't think it is. You can't hear anything because you only hear it with the window down. When I throw it in neutral and coast it goes away as soon as I throw it back in gear I hear it. It sounds like a frozen caliper rubbing on the rotors almost. That's what they told me but I know thats not it. They claimed the rock was making the noise

Does the noise go away with the clutch in?

Yes it does

It's probably the release bearing on the clutch. NOT an easy repair, but not going to hurt anything but your ears if you leave it until you need a clutch.

Hmm, is that something you think would be covered under warranty? I'm taking it back up there in a little bit.

IIRC it is considered a "wear item", so it's most likely only covered for the first year.. The dealership has some discretion as to what they can cover, but judging from your previous experience, you're going to be paying for it...

Of course it is lol. I need to get in someone else's gen pu and drive and see it what it sounds like. Thanks for the input. I'll mention it and see what they say and let you guys know.

So I was on another forum doing some research about it. From what I've seen it seems like this noise is "normal" I hope?! I seen a thread from a guy and he explained pretty much the same scenario as me. I remember reading something along the lines of "the noise is from the gear lash of the flywheel" but I also read that the throw out bearing makes a shit ton of noise too and that's normal.

I think I am hearing the same sound when I am driving. Hopefully you figure out what it is.
