Any one run a fire extinguisher?

I'm not referring to riceroni type stuff. My E34 M5 had a factory mounted extinguisher under the passenger seat (like the pic below). MY E30 Track car also had one mounted under the pass. side SRD. Normally I wouldnt care but I ran into occasion where it came in handy. (dude in s2k crashed in front of me at a DE and the extinguisher saved his car from roasting).

Anyone ever run something like this? I'm looking for something useful. I know Brey Krause used to make a sweet one for the P-car crowd that mounted to stock seats.

Because RACECAR!

obviously racecar.

smurugby12 06-25-2012 05:17 PM

I ran one up to 100 but it pulled on me once I hit 4th.

Sid3wayS 06-25-2012 05:34 PM

Funny enough I was thinking about this today. Im installing a meth tank in my trunk and one can never be to careful. Only I was thinking of putting it on the kicker plate center of the rear seats, facing the center console cupholders.

EdgeAutosport.com 06-25-2012 05:36 PM

I really could have used one when my car caught on fire

Seaton 06-25-2012 05:58 PM

Yes I have one under the passenger seat like shown. Although if it catches on fire it's likely I'll just step aside and watch in burn.
It's only for an extreme emergency if I'm in accident and my son is in the car....
Or I'm at the track where insurance won't cover.
Will post a pic later.

anavrinIV 06-25-2012 06:08 PM

I beat a small fire out in my engine bay with my shirt once...but this was in my old sonoma. That was fun.

I've never thought about carrying a fire extinguisher with me but if my car ever catches fire that badly I'll just let it go.

cesaros 06-25-2012 06:16 PM

hahaha...

because when my car catches on fire, the first thing I want to do is put it out myself...

just make sure to get the right extinguisher...and not some household one you pick up from walmart.

predapio 06-25-2012 06:18 PM

You only need an extinguisher when you run NOS

you laugh brownie, but when you have been around for 5 years and have put tens of thousands of hours into your car to watch it burn from a fire you could have put out yourself w/an extinguisher, you tend to think otherwise

i have one mounted in my trunk after one of my fuel lines burst under the hood after some WOT pulls

This is exactly why this thread caught my eye.

Subbed for results because the 10lbs of oxidizer I keep in my trunk scares me lol.

crazyp 06-25-2012 07:24 PM

I bought a car one from walmart. Figured it's better than nothing and it was 20 bucks

Stingray69 06-25-2012 08:06 PM

I carry a cell phone so when my shit burns up I can call for a ride. On the way home I will call American Family and say hey guess what......................

MS6FL 06-25-2012 08:29 PM

Illusion 06-26-2012 06:22 PM

bertrand_CX_7 06-26-2012 09:53 PM

have 3 of them in my house. 1 upstairs and 2 downstairs and zero in the car

wankular 06-26-2012 10:57 PM

I got a $20 one from Target a long time ago. All it does is get in the way when I try to put groceries in the back.

On a related note, the other night my mom said my car looked like an airplane cockpit with all the gauges and dashhawk and shit lit up.

Cold Fire

I have one of these from a Woot! deal

Fits nice in the area with the spare.

Right in the least easy place to get to it in case of fire.

ms3blackmica 06-27-2012 04:17 AM

OP,

i am going to be placing a small extinguisher in my trunk. Funny that i came across this thread because this whole subject hit me the other day. You can never be too careful. I keep tools in a duffle bag in my trunk and its come in handy so many times (tools, air compressor, tire plugs, voltmeter, etc...) Can't tell you how many times its helped me solve issues on the road, fix something. I actually repaired a busted coolant hose that the fan sliced with the tools i kept with me. Saved me 200 bucks which is what it would of costed to tow my car home from where i was. A car could catch fire at any given moment. You don't have to be modded. Anything can go wrong with electrical and cause a fire under the hood. Well id rather be able to extinguish the flame before any real big damage is done and the car becomes totalled. IMO, its 100% worth it. If you dont have one, all you can do is stand there and watch it burn.

swampthigger 06-27-2012 05:39 AM

they are ok to have out of sight, as long as you dont have one hanging in view for looks...

CWP_MS3 06-27-2012 06:12 AM

TBH, if my car caught on fire I'd rather have my shit totalled than repaired.

analbumcover 07-01-2012 08:10 PM

if OP is still interersted. I came across this a while back
