Anyone familiar with MD catalytic converter laws?

Well, My Corksport SRI and TIP are installed and i love them.

I want to order a list of parts next (mounts, full exhaust, ap, internals) but was wondering what all cats are needed to pass emissions in Maryland?

Reason i am asking is because i want to go catless DP but not sure if i can have a catless DP and catted catback or if i have to do both catted in order to pass emissions which is every 2 years.

Thanks guys!

Md test at random. I've not been tested in 5 years. Unless they suspect you and want to be jerks they dont do a sniff test. All they do is a visual inspection and hook up to your obd2. So if they see cats and the car is not throwing codes you are golden. I've never tuned a ms3/6 so I have no idea what its abilities are as far as ignoring cel codes. I'm sure that info is already on this site though.

It depends on where you live, In St. Mary's county we just have a "safety" inspection.

Cobb ap will eliminate your codes. So unless they do a sniffer, you're fine. If iI u the opportunity to go high flow cat I would. Catless is stinky and I feel like a jerk for mucking up the air.

Thanks, I think the ms3 has a cat on the dp and cbe from the factory, would I have to have both of the cats or would have just one be good enough if i was checked during emissions? Thanks

I forgot this morning it is by county. AA didnt seem to care. Both cars I've taken where cbe with high flow aftermarket cats. They looked quick and hooked up the obd2. Took 10 mins if that.

Well if I were you I would go catless cause
1 I could always put your shit back for you
2 its every 2 years so I wouldn't be scared cause there are ways to trick the ecu

Also to answer your question you only need the primary cat which is located in the actual dp. Some people get catted dp's I personally think they are a waste of money because they cost so much and really you only need them once every 2 years. So why not just take the time and reinstall your oem equipment or install a spark plug anti-fouler.

Heres your solution: Move out of Maryland. I did and couldnt be any happier. I'm from Towson and home is home, but I had to do it at some point. And moving out of MD doesnt mean go to retarded WV or NC. Enjoy the JFX, 695 at rush hour, State Troopers and the increasing cost of living! Cant forget about Dundalk too! One good thing though, the Orioles are finally dominating!

In maryland it is illegal to modify, remove, or replace the cats unless its for a repair. Just have a shop write up a repair order.

Or goto the mva on tech road, they are a bunch of lazy guys which is good for us.

Just go high flow. unless your going big turbo the high flow will keep you safe from the ahole :cop: around here

Edit: Oh yeah, donate brownie and go visit the DC Nator Section. There are plenty of us MD/DC/VA peeps just dying to rape... err... I mean meat you!

It's at least two yeArs. Let's just say they aren't terribly diligent about sending them out on time. I have gone as long as three years withou needing an emissions test.

Holy shit. I thought it was done by county. My bad! I wonder why I've never got anything in the mail? Well I guess I have two years till I have to worry about it now :silly:

Captain KR 08-27-2012 09:49 AM

Lol you can tell who enjoys working on their cars and who doesn't by the nature of the post. Just saying you don't need to run away from md or dread the day your emissions comes up just a day of good hard work and some sweat
