Autotech HPFP + JBR RMM 80a Loving it A question or two tho. First post since my ban has been over. During the last few weeks i decided to tackle on the HPFP internals and the RMM while doing the oil change i so badly needed. Yea i know this has been beaten to death but i just wanted to give my 2 cents. As i posted on my introduction, i want to play it safe with the car since its the DD. Wanna do it right and for that i've been reading my ass off. I gotta say, i did have to take the battery box out unlike the corksport video on youtube. Not a big deal but since I'm newbie status here it did take me like 40 minutes to get that shit out without breaking anything. Stock air box was in the way. Finally that was out and got the FP out. Got a cordless impact wrench and that 18mm bolt came out in one hit. I did need to use a regular 18mm to put it back in cause i was using an 18mm Impact socket and that was getting stuck every time I torqued it back into the HPFP with the torque wrench at 45ft/lbs following the threads here. It was lubed, cleaned and handled with gloves to avoid any issues. extra careful not to damage the thing, almost gave myself a heart attack when the damn impact socket kept getting jammed after it was torqued. Good thing i had a regular 18mm socket avail. Now did everyone have a shit time getting the hard fuel line back into place? that honestly took me like a half hour cause i kept thinking I'm gonna bend the damn thing and break it. I did read of that happening i was panicking i was gonna fuck that up. once it was in one turn on the e8 at a time it was good to go. RMM was put on following JBR instructions, vibrations like all hell....... thought the GF would hate it but apparently the car feels like a giant vib. lmao. Its been 850 miles since install on both and i gotta say i was being HPFP hypochondriac watching AP for pressure drops but once i drove it nicely for the 100 mile period holding nice over 1600 on stock tune stage 0. After that i logged at WOT and nothing under 1650 to 1892. after 600 miles i flashed Cobb Stage 1 OTS map and the let the car learn the trims for 50 miles, so far the car feels amazing. Throttle feels like its a normal car at half way and when pressed past the half way point boost comes in and it just goes, kinda nice. Miss the touchy feel of the stock pedal tho. I did notice stage map 0 had higher HPFP numbers than the stage 1, but at WOT they're both the same thing. Running a stock Intake, LTFT are at +/- 3.0 With the RMM i do hear a random "popping noise" from the front of the car, towards the bottom of the engine like around the DP only at idle but pressure never drops below 400psi at idle and only happens after i've pushed the car hard. Idk I've read here that these cars pop at idle sometimes? its not backfire from exhaust tho. AP doesnt register any knock when it happens, i used to feel the same on the stock FP so i don't think its that but RMM is bringing the sound a lot more. IDK any light on this would help, trying to do this properly. Anyway def feels good to be back. |
For the 18mm, better to use a 1/2 inch deep socket than the 3/8ths. You won't have a problem. I figured that out the same way, so I now make sure that I use that specific deep socket on all HPFP installs. The hard fuel line can be tricky, I used a screw driver to pry it out of the way just enough for everything to line up. As to the popping couldn't answer that one, I don't hear any popping on my or any of the ones I have worked on, perhaps some sort of exhaust leak. I would double check the gasket on the DP. You're not going to get much satisfaction for any of those OTS maps so you got the right idea with the http://i.imgur.com/Qg3DxoW.png Welcome back |
I get the popping sound every now and then from the (I'm guessing) RMM. It's usually only when I do a noob shift and it bucks a little. I have the 88a, and normal driving I don't hear it other than the added nvh. I went back under when I did my exhaust and it was torqued like 5lbs under spec. After a week or two I'd recheck it, but as far as I know its normal. I personally did not like the throttle with the cobb maps, it was too sharp. Check out the stratified maps, I like them. Really smooth and it works fine for me still having the stock hpfp in |
Connect the hardline first, then slide the pump fully into the head and bolt it up. Oh, and yeah, bitches love the vibes. :clit: |
