Bad day for the MS3 and I

Driving down an Austin canyon road and a fucking deer darted in front of me. Hit the brakes hard and went through the gravel and hit the canyon wall at about 30 mph. Passenger side is fucked up but lucky for my passenger and I the MS3 took the brunt. We are alive and at the end of the day it is just a big hunk of metal. What pisses me off most though is A) I didn't hit the deer for payback and B) the car had just hit 1800 miles about 5 minutes prior.

triplejumper18 07-08-2011 07:11 PM

Since you didn't hit the deer your insurance is going to bone your rates.

rodrigo 07-08-2011 07:13 PM

i wonder if dg chickens would have crashed or even taken that road.....hmmmm

dgkitchens 07-08-2011 07:22 PM

dgkitchens 07-08-2011 10:41 PM

Technically Mt. Bonnell Road but not a lot of people would know where that is and i couldnt think of how to describe it.

SWAY 07-08-2011 11:05 PM

Sad sight to see for sure

JmkC 07-08-2011 11:06 PM

why is the pic so small

backward_0 07-08-2011 11:11 PM

Fucker!! that sucks and i know exactly where your talking about. i figured you were talking about westlake.

dgkitchens 07-08-2011 11:20 PM

I know i should have hit the deer but it was a knee-jerk reaction.

Stapleface 07-09-2011 04:00 AM

Damn, this really sucks. Glad to see you and your passenger are okay though. I would have probably done the same thing you would. With how low the front end of the Mazda3 is, I would be afraid that the dear would roll up the hood into the passenger compartment. It sucks, but I think you made the right call.

Out of curiosity, did the side airbags go off?

Raider 07-09-2011 06:18 AM

Dude, that will buff out.

Hitting the deer with MS3 might have been bad, our cars are low, so it would have scooped his ass up onto the hood and through the windshield possibly. You would be picking deer balls out of your mouth, along with 10 billion shards of glass.

It's new, airbags dd not go off, so it will get fixed probably.

dgkitchens 07-09-2011 08:30 AM

The side curtains did on the passenger side. Good thing or this conversation would be much much more sad. His head would have gone right through the window.

Special--k 07-09-2011 08:49 AM

Hit a dear, swerve for a moose. If you americans even have any moose, those are the unwritten rules of the country road.

p.s glad everyone is ok. Too bad you let dinner get away though, dear is pretty good in a burger.

RodneyAE 07-09-2011 09:12 AM

For all of those who think it is safer to hit Deers. Keep in mind deers can come through the windshield, and kill you! It happens around here at least once or twice a year. But again I am in the Application Mountains where deer are everywhere. I avoid them at all cost. But if I have a choice of hitting a deer or running off the road, I would always go with the deer.

Raider 07-09-2011 09:17 AM

If the airbags went off, it is probably totaled. Hope you have good insurance and gap coverage.

SIXual Panda 07-09-2011 11:51 AM

bigger pics or it didnt happen.
good luck with insurance though...

DEER

mtnrunner 07-09-2011 12:55 PM

I have a lawyer that told me a good piece of information. Insurance can not blame you for this accident because they cant prove the deer was not there. Animal rights also says that they cant force you to hit the deer so swerving away from the deer is just saving the animals life and you wont be at fault. My friend swerved for a coyote before i even knew about this and he didnt even have to pay his deductible. We never asked questions at the time but now we know that its because of animal rights.
