Congrats on the BNR order, you will love it I am sure. He must have misunderstood your issue with the turbo though. That damage is 100% from something getting sucked in and nothing to do with oil. At a minimum always put a shop rag in any piping you open up, and inspect any new piping or parts for burrs.

Noob alert noob alert!! Hey at least i warned you guys...

So I just read through this entire thread.

What is the consensus on if Mazda can tell if your car has had another map put on the ECU? I saw a no and a yes.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

As for the ECU side of things, there is NO black box that can prove you've flashed the car like a GTR does.

Here are two cases in which they might catch you on:

1) If you have left a non-stock ROM on there, they can tell. That one is just as simple as reading out specific memory locations.

2) Number of key cycles/engine turn overs. Every time you reflash the car, those numbers go to 0. 0 is pretty indicative that you've been flashing the car. However, if you put enough start #'s into it, or you state that you've pulled the battery cable to stop it draining (which also resets those counters), then you can prevent that obvious state from being used against you.

These are the two ways used by the dealership to validate if there has been ECU flashing or not.

Truthfully though, we have good relations with both Mazdaspeed North America and our local dealership, and they both said the same thing.

If you take care of your car, and are courteous with the dealership, they won't go searching for signs of a flash. The minute you give the reasonable doubt that something is off, they'll look for any reason to deny a warranty.

You're doing it wrong....you're supposed to clip the turbine blades, not the impeller blades!

Wow man I almost ended up posted a thread like this myself.....dropped a damn nut into the turbo as I was fitting the mani....

Had to pull all that shit off, but narrowly avoided this same issue. Sucks it actually happened to you, but you got a bnr out of it haha......Shop rags in piping and turbo going forward
