Default Benchmarking the 2015 STI with a GenPu!

If you watch the video below, you will Subaru using the MS3 to benchmark the new upcoming STI. It's a testament to how well the MS3 was developed: a 2010 FWD design used with a yet to be released AWD car.

Subaru WRX STI prototype spied in motion

Made me quite happy given that I'm still getting shit on NASIOC for having a MS3, haha.

Just because there's a ms3 behind it in some shots I'm thinking your reasoning is crap- in relating the ms3 to the up and coming slow WRX. What's your point exactly ?

I thought I made it clear in the first post...

By bringing the MS3 along with their new flagship for testing (and a 911), it's showing that Subaru is considering the MS3 as a serious contender, even when the current MS3 has been out for a few years and the new STI is still a year away from release. Just shows how good the FWD MS3 is when competitors are using it to compare/fine tune their own shit.

Note: In case it was not clear, the MS3 behind the STI was not a coincidence, it was part of Subaru testing.

Agreed, but people will pay for it anyway. People buying that car are buying it because it can give you that extra bit of performance (at least from 0-20 MPH) and view the stripped interior as a reasonable price to pay. They hold their value better than regular hot hatches because of the AWD system and reputation, IMO.

That said, my opinion is that the MS3 being cheaper and having a way better interior makes it a much better value.

Also, the legacy is Subaru's flagship, not the Impreza.

For Subaru to use an MS3 as a "benchmark" is a complete joke. Unless they are using it for tips to attract buyers who think their car is the end-all of the automotive world.

They were caught testing a mule a few months ago, but that one had a lot less "camo".

I maintain that it will be the same as its been for the last 15+ years: a wide body Impreza with go-fast bits.

They are not benchmarking speed....they're benchmarking a compromised between a race car and daily driven car...speed3 its a compromise of that....and has been praised for that. Ability to go around the corners and still civilized....a $25k car that can do 73 mph slalom test its impressive.... Even with our oversteer behavior... Obviously sti its faster on raw speed but speed3 can go nearly as fast without the spine cracking suspension setting.

^the world does not have dry and smooth surfaces all year round.

Throw the MS3 onto rain, gravel, snow, etc and watch it flail around like a dog on a newly waxed marble floor.

Also, going to the 'ring to test for comfort and compromise is like going to a monster truck rally to test for politeness and sobriety.

Your speed3 suspension was tuned at the green hell...FYI
The nurburgring isn't flat and nice like u say...it got creases, different types of tarmac or concrete, one part of the track can be soaking wet and the other half bone dry...It can have different scenarios in one lap. Still a public road hence the relevance for suspension setup.... can't be overly stiff...can't be overly soft...

I never said anything about where the MS3 was developed and tuned. This is a discussion about the STi.
The MS3?is not a compromise in my opinion. It's a tourer that happens to be slightly quick given pretty much ideal road conditions.

Yeah, it does.
And it's not just lateral Gs. The MS3's ridiculous understeer means ill be going into a ditch while trying to keep up with an STi in the bends in stock form.

Have you driven a stock wrx? I've owned an 05 and 11. They under steer horribly stock. Have also owned and tracked 2 sti's which were not much better in stock form. Took quite a bit of suspension work and some hellacious sized sway bars to get them into the neutral handling zone at the limit. The major saving grace is the awd helps to dummy proof a good bit. As you can use it to pull yourself out of bad situations, generally caused by the green nut behind the wheel

I had both a 2012 WRX and 2012 STi. Yes, I've driven them.

Taking the same exact off/on ramps and random hills/bends in the Central Florida Backroads, I can definitely say the MS3 does not compare. Powering during corners is nearly impossible in the MS3 without breaking the tires loose, and the entry speeds in the two are very different.

FWD cars aren't meant to accelerate in middle of corners....they're faster carrying speed thru the corner due to their nature.

That's correct its a different car and must be driven as such. That's where the nut behind the wheel comes in.

Sure, it does. But the car also makes certain that the nut doesn't fulfil the death wish he/she has.
Don't get me wrong, I have no use for the STi, as I live in Florida where it's dry, flat, and straight 90% of the time. However, one can't deny that the STi performs well in all conditions and surfaces, while the MS3 most certainly does not (as it was not designed to).

I hate to agree with brownie here but bone stock ill take the AWD anyday of the week if its a course. However, the ms3 is much more fun to drive. Learning to track drive a fwd takes skill where as with awd you have more time and latitude to correct mistakes.

Keeping this in mind, i would never buy sn STI. EVO all the way. Subaru has been pretty lazy in the padt 5 years in terms of development. Stock for stock the EVO handles better and is a much better dd.

On another note, with the exception of my rally bc friends most sti drivers cant dribe worth.shit. Handling in any condition comes down to tires and driver not the car. Put a seasoned rally driver in a 80s suped up tercel and they will smoke your stock sti on the track

Fyi i am not saying ms or evo owners are better drivers. Just sayin

My username being brown means I don't spend enough time here to warrant donating, not that I have no idea what I'm talking about.

Also, this thread is about the STi and MS3, not the Evolution.
That being said, I was ready to purchase an Evolution until I saw the horrid excuse for trunk it has. That simply won't work for me. If the sport back ever comes in Evolution Trim, I'm in.
But at the moment, they are just too inconvenient for me.
As they say, "EVO for the track, STi for the drive home."

If someone says "MS3 for both" they deserve to be shot in the gooch.
