Default Best intake for performance gains below 4,000 rpms

So I was just about sold on the Cork Sport SRI + TIP till I took a closer look at the dynos on it.

It would really bother me if I was essentially driving a slower car all day long unless I'm getting on the throttle. It makes you wonder, maybe it's better to keep the car stock and keep the power in the 3,000 rpm and below range while driving around town.

By the way, anyone know the scientific explanation for why the CS SRI + TIP mod causes this power loss in low rpm's?

For those of you who installed the CS SRI + TIP, are you bothered by the loss in power below 3,000 rpm? Was it very noticeable?

Are there intakes out there that increase performance across the board, not just above 3,000? The K&N intake dyno shows even till around 3,000, then the performance spike of 24 hp. I'm curious as to how other intakes stack up to the K&N.

I dont see a point in have low end power if your gonna be driving around town.....you wont feel the difference if your gonna be driving normal which your suppose to if your not an idiot and putting ppl on the street in danger..... reason I got an intake is because I know if I go head to head with some douches its gonna be on a highway alone well above 3k rpms doing the sushi roll!

Why would you be worried about power loss under 3k??

Your not making power that low anyway...

Removing the SRI/TIP to put the crappy oem intake/tip back on is a dumb idea. The SRI/TIP opens up that top end (with an AP tune).
Making power below 3000rpm isn't important, but if you want to help the low end......race pipe.
So buy, an AccessPort and race pipe.

Search for threads, you'll find solutions. And read, learn before modding.

I won't be purchasing an AP, it'll just be the SRI/TIP. I get it, you don't need power at low rmp's driving around town, yada yada, but the drop is pretty significant. You're literally driving a slower, more sluggish car until you get to 3,000+ rpm.

not sure who you're trying to threaten. donating or not donating isn't the reason why people are giving you lame answers here. it's probably because you didn't do any searching. every intake conversation possible has happened already, so read up and you'll probably find all the answers you need.

while it's true that donating will make people more likely to help you, having donated and then posting lame threads is still gonna make the shit fly. ask crtguns.

i think u mis understand what he was saying. he wasn't making fun of your choice of wording, he was making fun of the fact that you wrote this in a way that would lead us to believe you think the K&N is the end all be of all of all other SRI/CAI's and the others are striving to reach its level of awesomeness.

instead of how does the K&N compare to others on the market you asked if the others measure up to the K&N

Mamma, the reason people are responding to you like this, is that the turbo does not spool enough to give you that much power at lower RPM's.

Donating is entirely up to you. I see no $ that comes in. But what you do NOT get is VIP access to service manuals, the for sale section, and a whole lot more. The only lower when you don't donate, is you.

I would visit the sticky threads and search around the forums, you will find an answer to the intake question. I would encourage you to search for the filters, too. Advanced searching works best for me.

i have a cs sri/tip and i dont even notice a power loss below 3k after you go above 3k thats when it matters anyway. Feels strong above 3k.i would recommend it.

i have to believe now after so many threads about power below 3k that ms3's are losing roll races due to the simple fact of them trying to go from 2k

down shifting is your friend

I've said it before. If you're unwilling to spend the time actually tuning your car for the physical mods that you put on it, you probably shouldn't be adding any physical mods. In addition, if you're that worried about low-end grunt, then you're probably getting into boost far sooner than is ideal for this platform (arguably).

There's a fair bit of evidence (and some that runs counter as well), for the proposition that going WOT below 3000rpm is a recipe for holes in your block.

Dyno sheets don't tell the story of "around town driving." How often, in day-to-day commuting as you describe, do you go WOT and shift at 3.5-4k? If that's your concern, you shouldn't even be reading the dyno sheets. Worry about how the driving experience feels in your butt dyno. If you don't like it, sell the intake.

On stock tune regardless of the intake, you will have gobs of torque down low which is more than sufficient for around town driving.

Noob is way too noobish.

Doesn't know anything about this motor. Can't comprehend that below 3000 rpms is not where you make power. Can't understand that manufacturer dyno sheets are grossly exaggerated.

Above all, he ignores the fact that no self respecting MS3 owner would put a K&N intake on this car. They're shit.

when i had my intake i didn't notice losing any low end. so how can you say its significant, 5hp on the dyno? can you feel that? maybe if your car had 20hp. i'll take losing 5hp below 3k for 20hp above 3k. but um u should go wot at 2k in 6th gear! gobs of trq!!!

Sticker placement where it will be seen the most will yield the most gain. And of course larger stickers will gain more on the top end than a smaller sticker will. And use bright colors.

I have a CAI and i definitely noticed a drop in low end torque after install. Especially that first bit of shove when you shifted into 2nd. Yes it breathes better and makes more power up top and is a worthwhile mod however losing that low rev, bottom end grunt sucked. Pretty much any CAI or SRI will do this. Perhaps a drop-in filter might limit the loss of bottom end torque while still giving some gains up top. I personally found the sucking sound combined with the reduction in low end torque rather deflating...however I just go WOT to remind myself why I did it.

True...but you CAN tune around that (to some extent)...but that would require the OP to get an AP which he stated he "isn't going to" do.
