Black tape at the top of the rear window?

3 Attachment(s)
So I was checking the spoiler fasteners to make sure they were tight yesterday and noticed I seem to have a strip of what looks like black tape at the top of the rear window in the hatch. Is this normally there? I do have the windows lightly tinted, is this something that could be related to the tint film? Can I take it off?

It just seems like a strange place to find a long strip of tape. Pics below for reference.

Any input would be appreciated.

Have you been picking at it?

Did you find some guy to tint your car for $50 in some back alley somewhere?

Ya... That is not supposed to be there... Looks like cheap tint job..

I don't know how the genpu back windows are. However, if it has alot of dot matrix at the top, shops will put a strip of black vinyl up there. They did it on my wife's fusion. Regular tint, no matter how good, has a hard time bonding to the matrix. Because its not flat. I would leave it there honestly.

My GenPu definitely does not have this, almost looks like a fix to something or cheap tint

Don't remove it! Holds together rear subframe grundlebobber latch.

Sent from fastest ko4 Pu!

Did it on my first Pu, Figured that's why I couldn't break into the 12's. I did not make the same mistake on PuV2.

Haven't been picking at it, that's what it looked like... I had the tint done at a shop that is supposed to do a decent job, although I certainly wasn't blown away with it when I got my car back...

There is some of the dot matrix at the top of the window, but no more than around the rest of the edge of the back window...

Thanks for confirming that.

I will maybe peel up the edge and see if I can see what is going on underneath. I realize most people would just say fuck it and leave it, but I'm OCD about stupid little shit like this.

Any other input is welcome.

a.) SHUT THE FUCK UP AND STOP FUCKING WITH IT.
b.) Your tint shop sucks.

Dash08 06-22-2013 01:22 PM

If that tape is actually performing a function, whether it be with your cheesy tint job or whatever, just fucking leave it.

It's gonna look a lot worse if you take it off and it fucks something up.

Either that or just go get new tint.

it is replies like the jerk remarks some have left that has kept me from going VIP again. who cares if you think the tint job sucks. I don't remember him asking about his tint only the tape. there are more registered trolls than you can count. people get banned because they point that out but stupid trolling comments are ok. you people is why the search sucks on this site.... 200 post of saying search and donate or either stupid replies that lend no suggestions or fixes

now to the task at hand

I would call the shop that tinted the windows and ask. it should only take a few mins and they could let you know if and why they did it

Ryguy 06-24-2013 06:37 PM

If you expect people to kiss your ass inorder for you to donate then your barkin up the wrong tree dude

CornBread 06-25-2013 08:52 AM

don't expect that at all

so did you call them and find out. let us know how it turns out

Redfor 06-26-2013 02:13 PM

If it isn't broke, don't fix it. Probably left over trim from when they tinted the windows and forgot to trim it off.
