Default Blow off valve

I just purchased a 2011 MS3 and for my first mod I really want a blow off valve. And before anyone calles me stupid I just want to know what type and brand of blow off valve would be best for a stock MS3 to get that nice loud air realease sound.

on the ms3 blow off valve offers no performance enhancement so it is a ricer/sound mod only

also because the ms3 uses a maf system releasing metered air into atmosphere instead of through the bypass valve currently on the stock system causes fucked up fuel trims

YES you can run VTA (vent to atmosphere) but i would recommend a tune to run it properly...so i would actually recommend your first mod be a tuning solution and your second mod a blow off valve if you really want one

I run without a valve. Talk about some loud crazy ass noises coming from your engine bay.

A Forge BPV is a common valve for this car.

As mentioned, I would get something that recirculates while still making a sound instead of venting to atmosphere since this is not a Honda running off a MAP sensor.

an intake and forge bpv will net you the sound you want and more, and its good for you car dont b a pu$$y and get a bov its not good for the car

This is the kind of shit thread that makes the Gen2 section what it is. All day long you see people making useless and redundant threads. I've seen more threads about "what bov is gonna make my car go PPPSSSSSHHHH", "what should I use to black out my lights so i can be dope and fresh and unique", and "how canz i makes car louderz" than I have seen useful, mechanical based threads. I'm just sick of seeing fellow Gen2 owners make themselves out to be fucking ricer bitch boys. That being said, Do not buy a BoV for a first mod, a second mod, or even a fourth mod. There are better things to spend your money on such as an SRI, an AP, or a TP.


I know this doesn't really follow the family friendly terms we're to be using now, but this kind of thing really grinds my gears.

Honestly, they made the new rules about bashing on noobs...I can understand the new member welcome. But THIS for example...I mean COME ON, SEARCH. I don't even like to ask. I just search and look to see what comes up. Then, after an hour or so if I just absolutely can not find what I'm looking for, I'll either make a thread about it, or PM one of the Veterans and ask them their opinion. PLEASE SEARCH FIRST!

That said...stock, bov/bpv really doesn't do much but make sound. Getting an intake/inlet pipe will make the stock bpv audible and its pretty loud. If you do go after market, make sure it's a BYPASS VALVE, such as Forge, Cobb to name a few.
If you decide on a BLOWOFF VALVE(vent to atmosphere) make sure it is DUAL PORT, such as turbosmart, which partially vents to atmosphere, and partially recirculates. You shouldn't run a full VTA though, unless you get the car tuned specifically to run that way.

In all seriousness...a SRI would give you 80% of the sound (and it's very noticeable) without the problems that are associated with a true BOV. I've sat in an MS3 with a Turbosmart BOV....not much different in aural stimulation compared to mine with a CS SRI, except his sounds more like a sharp whipcrack and mine isnt as loud or abrupt.

I got a Cobb BPV only because I got a good deal on it, and I plan on going Big Turbo some day. Otherwise, you don't really need one.

hhmm... dont get a BOV... I would highly recommend doing more research via the various threads on here man. im a newbie too but i have more than enough sense to know that a BOV isn't good for the speed 3... besiides, like someone said, once you get an intake (i got the COBB SF and TIH) you get the sounds you want and some more powaaahhhh!.. that said good luck on modding and hey reading up on dieffrent mods and how they affect your car never hurt anyone

I don't have an ms3, but I have a blow-through maf on my msm, so I've tried running VTA for a short time. That got old fast! PSSSSSHHHHHHHHHH! just cruising and letting off at like 3k. Was fun for about a day, before it got way too annoying, and I longed for recirc.

I used to have an 04 vr gt msm before this car... a had a forge dualport like valve ran it in 50/50 because its a maf system as well but that car dislikes full vta as it idles like shit almost wanting to die..

Umm I hate to break it to you but.... the car ran like a champ never any probs in 50 50 or full circ..... as soon as you go full vta on that car no matter how you tune the bov.... they don't like to close which causes it to stumble into almost dieing. I know those cars very well and if you jump on over to the msm only forum just like here and do a little bit of reading with the search function you'll find that everything just said, is 100% correct.
