Question Brake dust

Well call me anal *flame suit on* but is it just me or do the ms3 at least my 2012 create a lot of brake dust. I am still using my stock pads but it seems to me if i don't clean my car once a week my wheels will be black. If your not using stock pads what are you using? how is the fade ? is there a lot of dust..lmk I'm curious cause I might change my pads .. cheaper then getting a wash a week.

I've learned to ignore it for now hahha. I've plastidipped my wheels black so I don't really notice it too much anymore, only if I don't wash in a long time the black starts getting a brownish tint to it.

My 2010 dusts like a mofo. If I wanted to keep them clean, it would have to be an every day affair. I don't know what is worse, cleaning off the brake dust to keep the rims looking clean or trying to keep a black car looking clean.

It is a lot of brake dust, but I don't care enough to start a thread about it.

Why, so you can not stop? Don't think about trying to track or drive too aggressively with ceramics.

I pretty much think the bottom line is, performance brakes whether they are mazda or aftermarket they are going to produce a fair amount of dust. I have noticed this on my car, and yes while it doesnt look good, it is a manageble thing. Like someone else said, just wipe it down once a week or get darker rims. I use to fight this all the time with chrome rims on my old Trans-Am. Its the cost of being able to stop lol

ive read through a lot of this type of thread. people who switched to non oem break pads lost 'bite' when they're breaking. some are even trying to figure out what pads the oem are or as close as they can get. don't be a pussy, just ignore it.

I'm a big pussy and don't like brake dust either when DD'ing. If I was going to the track, yeah, I'd put up with dusty pads..but on a daily basis, the stock pads put out a shit ton of dust.

So you and I can be pussies together and enjoy relatively dust free pads with good stopping power, just less initial bite.

Akebono Euro 915A have about 10% of the oem dust, while still providing excellent stopping power for the street (albeit with less initial bite).

Pussies unite!

I hate it with my matte black wheels. Since I have switched over to the DBA rotors and Hawk PC pads it is way better. Not nearly as much dust after 2 weeks of driving with those as there was with 1 week of driving with the OEM.

Yes, brake dust is excessive on this car- especially in the front. The inside of the wheels get filthy and I need to remove and clean them every 2K. I posted previously on this subject, my post was immediately closed. I posted on another forum and the answer was ceramic pads. So as soon as these wear out I'm getting ceramic.

Ceramic really isn't the answer either. On the track car that we are working on, we have DBA 4000 slotted rotors with Hawk HP+ pads. They dust like a motherfucker and are fully ceramic. I think they dust just as bad, if not worse than, as the stock brakes. They just stop a lot better.

Just wash it every week or two? Its not like the rest of the car stays extraordinarily clean.

That is because 1/2 of the car is covered in dust.

If you want clean wheels / clean car, swap pads.

If you want ultimate performance on the street, deal with dust.

Clean and wax your wheels. Brake dust won't stick quite as much, but the biggest reason for it is that the dust comes off way easy. Try it out.

WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT? HP+ ARE NOT CERAMIC.

FROM THE HAWK WEBSITE: 'HP Plus utilizes a unique Ferro-Carbon, high-tech friction material that was developed and manufactured for sport driving in autocross, Solo II and “track day” applications. The Ferro-Carbon formulation offers lower wear rates and higher torque values than other competitive materials.'

These are the Hawk pads I used with the DBA rotors for my car:

Hawk Performance Brake Pads: Performance Ceramic Brake Compound
HB549Z.702 front
HB478Z.605 rear

Ultra low dust.

EBC redstuff here great bite, great wear, low low dust.

Do some research before starting a thread. The amount of brake pad information on this forum is retarded. All mazdaspeed 3/6 stock pads since 06 dust like a mofo. You are not the first one to have this gripe.

That's the point of the link I posted, quick google search showed 635 results for threads about brake dust on this site alone. You are far from the first to gripe about brake dust. It's a fact either live with it or use the solutions from those other threads.

Instead of whining about brake dust, why doesn't someone come up with a 5 minute cleaning solution? Call it 5 minute Wheel Cleaner or some crap and make some cash.
