Brand new '12 MS3 loosing boost So I bought my '12 MS3 in Dec '12. Since then there has been one upgrade, the COBB xle bpv. I'm not sure I had this problem before the install but I've recently noticed, no matter what speed/gear/rpm, after a few seconds of open throttle my stock boost gauge shows I'm loosing 1 "unit" of boost. Any thoughts on this? Go easy on me this is my first post other than replies Thanks!:1zhelp: |
Going to go out on a limb and say "huge boost leak". Check all the connections on both sides of each hose that touches your BPV. I have a cobb xle and maintain 19 psi no prob. Also make sure you grease it, it's possible that it's stuck open maybe? |

Not as huge as you may think but def want to check out the Cobb xle connections and what not because 3/4 boost is no fun. |
Thanks for the help guys. Torq, quick question...did your bpv come with a gasket or the rubber ring? Mine came with a gasket and after a little research I may have been sent the wrong part :261::1zhelp::grumble: |
It came with the paper'ish gasket. Watch out taking it on and off though, those OEM bolts are made of butter, go grab some better bolts asap if you're going to be taking it on and off. Mine snapped (at different times) when I was tightening them to the recommended 12 ft/lb. It is supposed to be greased with lithium grease once in a while as well, every oil change is recommended. Edit: now that you mention it, it sure looks like it should have a rubber one for mazdas, I wonder what the effect the paper one is having on me. 2nd Edit, it looks like the instructions are out of date, paper is fine. For troubleshooting purposes, swap the old valve back on, and determine if your boost gauge reads the same. Are you on the stock tune? |
I would guess because load tuned this time of year, not anything mechanical. On cold days I may only hit 10-11 psi on a stock tune but still be at the load limit. |
Wrong wrong wrong. This is like the blind leading the blind. To the OP the stock tune is designed to drop one "unit" if boost according to the HIGHLY inaccurate stock boost gauge because the stock tune is a load based tune and you are reaching that load target. It tapers boost at redline and in fact brings all the power on at about 3000rpm to give you that kick and make you feel faster. The reality is this turbo especially untuned loses efficiency past 5500rpm. This is why you do reading before just slapping parts on the car, especially a BOV/BPV Tapatalk LIKE A BOSS! |
No one reamed the OP about his first and only mod being a BPV? I'm disappointed... |

Faggot ricer... I want one. :sad2: |
dood you were a mere $55 dollars from being able to afford a set of autotech fp internals for the money you put into the BPV. I would put the stock one back on and keep the XLE till moar mods are added. Now I'm sitting here looking through JBR and edge's websites looking at the useful stuff like motor mounts and ap's. You need to read the intro thread from the joining email/message or look at the sticky for the ultimate resource thread in the General discussion area. So now you know, I wouldn't try to sell the BPV cause you'll just lose money and probably want it down the line... And don't forget to donate. *EDIT* See, check it out: http://www.jamesbaroneracing.com/sto...ath=42_213_130 http://www.edgeautosport.com/autotec...p-upgrade-kit/ |

My wife pretends to hate everything about the car. I don't believe that she actually does, though she'll never admit to it. She just doesn't like when I romp it and she's either not expecting it, or there are cars around. Like a 3rd gear pull to pass someone out of frustration... She no likey. And of course; its too loud... She did buy me a mountain bike for my birthday, so I can't bitch too much. :) |
Wow. I didn't see all these replies till now. Thanks guys. Yes it's a stock tune. You don't need to remind how far away from other stuff I was buying lol I wasn't far from an AP tuner lol. I may return it but I'm trying to get an idea of how much more ill be doing to my car |

*EDIT* There is one for sale for 450 now but someone has already PM'd for it so I expect it to be sold. They go like hot cakes when they're up for sale. |
