Bryce in Orance County, CA

Hello all. I stumbled across this forum looking for reviews on Church Auto. They had great reviews and I am glad I went. I was running a stage 2 map form Cobbs beta testing and what I found was I had a lot of KR, to much timing and had some lean spots YIKES!! Anyway, I don’t have a pic of the dyno but the original cobb map was at 310lbs of torque and about 270 whp. The curve looked like hell like a sin wave. After Church's tune I have 300 lbs of torque and 290 whp and no more sin wave, KR, to much timing and most important no lean spots. If you are running a cobb map I would definitely suggest a tune by Church. Cobb opened a shop out here in SoCal but I dont think they ever got their dyno up. It wouldn’t have mattered I would have gone to Church anyway.

So another thing I found and am now considering. Everything I read about the 2010 ms3 was that adding CBE was nothing but sound and no gain. Shawn at Church says that is nonsense. If I had a CBE we could have tuned it to about 315 lbs of torque and 310 wph. So obviously I want a CBE but I am trying to decide which is the best for the least amount of noise. I am already great at getting the cops attention so I don’t need any more help. I have Ultimate Race DP and TP and was thinking about their CBE but after seeing videos I think it will be to loud. I saw other videos and I think I like the sound of the Cork Sport.

What do you guys think? Anyone trying to sell their CBE?

Thanks guys
Bryce

Current mods: Ultimate Race TP & DP. CP-E HPFP. K&N intake. Cobb access port.

Welcome seems like good powah... Corksport FTW

MattJackson86 10-04-2011 11:28 PM

No way a CBE will net you 20hp. A DP may yes, but not a CBE. Nice tune though so far.

bschuske 10-04-2011 11:32 PM

You may be right but SHawn didnt think that way at all. He showed me a map of a 2009 ms3 that had intake and CBE running those numbers. There could obviously be other factors that I dont know about but I am just saying what he told me. Im no pro by a long shot but if a CBE can get me over 300 whp im all in.:naughty:

I got off my but and got the dyno. Heres the pic.

Hey Bryce,
I'd like to get some info on Church Auto- I wasn't aware of any tuning shops in OC- I live in Irvine. I actually just bought an OBX CBE and like it a lot. It may be too loud with your DP and test pipe- but it's a steal at 399+shipping and tax. I have a minor fitment issue-but I love the sound and I swear I feel more pull above 4500 rpm with it- but everyone on the forums tells me there's no hp gain with a CBE with the stock turbo.

krazycoble 10-05-2011 04:00 PM

Also, Church uses a Dynapack which does tend to read higher than comparable "roller" dynos...just FYI

bschuske 10-05-2011 06:10 PM

So the beers wore off and I had a chance to think about what Shawn told me and what I think he was saying was that I could get more torque with a CBE and not necessarily hp. I think I just wanted to hear that it gave me more hp.

EL F00LI0 10-05-2011 07:57 PM

What's up man! Where in OC are you located? Maybe we have corssed paths lol. If you'd like to go to a meet that some buddies and I have setup lmk! I can pm you the fb page for it.

And yes a cbe give little to no gains at all. Its mostly for sound and to achieve better flow with a full 3" turbo back exhaust.

Tapawho?

bschuske 10-05-2011 08:24 PM

Quickblue - Thanks for the CBE tip man I appreciate it.

michael_allaire - I live in Newport Beach...looks like me you and Quick are all pretty close. Ya id be interested in meeting you guys just let me know.

Tapahoe sucka!

Throw $25 for VIP and you can see the parts people are selling. I have a Corksport racepipe and CBE and it is pretty much awesome.

Zoomspeed 10-08-2011 03:03 PM

Thats cool im from oc too im in santa ana let me know if you guys have a meet..

m4tic 10-08-2011 05:37 PM

There are meets every day of the week

Neverlift 10-08-2011 05:47 PM

Sweet. Maybe all you brown-eyes can get together in a parking lot and talk about Church 300whp tunes from just a couple of bolts ons. NBD

Seriously though, welcome.

Zoomspeed 10-08-2011 06:50 PM

Where do the meets take place cause I usually go racing thursdays at santa ana

Neverlift 10-08-2011 07:21 PM

Thursday night Best Buy off Lake Forest. Starts around 10. Straytraycers always show up. Probably your crowd.

MOCC holds a meet in Irvine off Jeffrey in the Walnut shopping center by the Chase bank every other Tuesday. Bring your lawnchair.

EL F00LI0 10-08-2011 07:33 PM

You go to the best buy meet? I've only seen one other ms3 there and they were with the team havoc guys.

Yeah I went like two weeks ago right by the del taco and mcdonald ive only seen a white one

EL F00LI0 10-09-2011 02:09 AM

Makes sense as I havent gone to the past like 3 lol. Those guys there are after me tryin to race me and trick me into racing civics built civics and wrxs and evos putting down a lot of power. Im waiting till I finish my build to go back so they think I'm still stock turbo with bolt ons. Then I'll race them for money

327whp 10-09-2011 07:10 AM

Well if you are trying not to get to loud you will want to stay away from the corksport CBE as it is probably the loudest one out there although to me it sounds the best by far. Magnaflow's are the closest to stock sound/loudness and no where near as loud as the corksport. Nice numbers by the way.

Zoomspeed 10-09-2011 02:35 PM

Yeah there is some sick cars

DONOTBUGME 10-09-2011 04:38 PM

fyi op, church uses dynapac so the hp numbers are from the hubs not the wheels, subtract 8% to get your whp....least thats what they say to do at churchs. so 290hp would be around 265whp.

BrownMagic 10-10-2011 03:58 PM

I live in Rancho Santa Margarita, anyone close?

Neverlift 10-10-2011 04:00 PM

Whats so funny

bschuske 10-12-2011 12:00 AM

@DONOTBUGME - you are going to have to prove out the math on this one. I havent seen anything which would suggest such a drastic differnece in dyno types certainly not 8%. The only difference between the two is that on the roller your wheel are on. On the Dynapack your wheels are off so the only real difference would be the weight of the tires and I am sorry to tell you my friend.......that just dosent equate to an 8% diffreential. I would like to see this proven otherwise.

BTW I lived in Diamond Bar. Right across the street from Chaparral middle school

bschuske 10-12-2011 12:09 AM

Im interested now but here is a video a came across after a cursory search

The 8% is coming from church himself. I did dyno days there, that's what he said o do to compare to dyno jet. In simple terms it takes power to turn theu wheels, and I didn't watch your video cause well, nce. And @Derek Doo if I can save enough by Christmas, jp sellsl the gtx3071 drop in for 1650.hmmm

Rotational weight plus natural resistance.

You're welcome buddy
